  1. Yep, already grabbed the Patton this morning.
  2. They've had some inexplicable "get three for free" codes lately (paying only shipping). I'll try to dig one up.
  3. Glad to hear it. It'd be hypocritical of me otherwise since I first became 'hooked' on Mosaic - and have since bought many sets from them - after several sympathetic jazz fanatics hooked me up with some oop sets.
  4. And possibly nothing. That report admits being two years old, but news reports last week indicated that whatever original parts that were in the building had been moved out of there earlier in the year. I'm not saying that's absolutely correct either; perhaps we'll never know.
  5. Then you really won't like them!
  6. Happy Birthday, Bertrand!
  7. I suppose you could shout, but there's also the "report a post" button if you're so offended.
  8. I generally make it a point not to blame jazz artists (or even mere singers/musicians ) on the quality of their publicists.
  9. From one D-Day baby to another... Happy Birthday!
  10. Sounds like the title of the next Harrison Ford flick!
  11. Thanks Guys! For my birthday, my daughters are taking me to see Kung Fu Panda tomorrow afternoon and then we might buy "me" an XBox 360.
  12. I agree! Never heard (or seen) this stuff before I found it on a blog. Turned me on to a whole "style" of early 70s jazz.
  13. The only catch is the DLs are 128 kbps, I believe. Which is fine, but some folks shy away because of it. It's a great way to sample a lot of music you might otherwise not for a very good price. No! Emusic mp3s are much better than 128 kbps. They use VBR encoding and sound very good. Better than itunes imo. My mistake. I had thought that they were back when I was a subscriber. Perhaps they've upgraded since then. Yes, they were at 128 a number of years ago, but they've since upgraded to VBR. Best thing is, if you sign up on your old account you can re-download everything you did back then for free.
  14. Pretty good on Letterman last night. Just like another of Ravi's daughters. Sorta Norah Jones meets Corrine Bailley Rae.

  16. Well mold and mildew doesn't grow just because something gets wet; it grows when something gets wet and/or stays damp. Vinyl records dry pretty quickly as they don't really absorb moisture. Paper jackets/sleeves are another matter of course. It's not that big a deal if the vinyl gets wet as it's easily cleaned. When one finds a collection of moldy LPs, it's often a case of them being stored in a cardboard box in a leaky basement. The mold grows in the soggy paper, not on the vinyl per se.
  17. You said it, Joe. Since I've been here, we've been owned by Seagrams, Vivendi, and now GE. And I just missed the Matsushita days. Gotta say, I do miss the holiday bonuses we used to get from Seagrams.
  18. Sorry to hear that, Jon. Drop me a line - I'll try to see if there are any openings around here.
  19. We're no longer paying actors $20 million to star in our films.
  20. I'm almost hesitant to say that Black Butterflies is also available at emusic.
  21. Dry them out - they'll only get moldy if they're allowed to stay damp. Clean the vinyl and all should be fine (relatively).
  22. This is wonderful material! Not sure if I'll race to get it, though, but only because I think I have all the albums. Have to wait for more details.
  23. EXCLUSIVE: I've confirmed what I first heard on Monday: that Universal Classics has sent out an email to about 35 art house exhibitors and other film bookers of classic films alerting that the Universal Studios fire destroyed nearly 100% of archived 35mm prints kept in the so-called "video" vault on the lot. So, in the short term, Universal has canceled bookings of anything archival coming directly from Universal City and can't honor any film bookings of prints that were set to ship from there. Let me be clear: I am assured by insiders that the negatives are not affected, thankfully -- only the actual 35mm prints used for repertory circulation of classic films. Prints from that very rich vault which also includes pre-1950 Paramount include such classics as Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Duck Soup, Hell's Angels, Brides of Dracula, Incredible Shrinking Man, Buck Privates, Hold That Ghost, and so many, many more. Some Industry types are emailing me that, with these prints gone, and the expense of making new prints, they fear that art houses and cultural organizations and film societies and festivals may never see these films theatrically again. But I'm told that Universal has already committed itself to making new prints. Of course, there will be delay and disappointment in the immediate future. But that's only a timing issue. I'm told it's possible that some of these prints may have duplicates in storage at other locations. So, over the next few weeks and months, Universal will be piecing together what extra prints, if any, it does have elsewhere. I still can't get a straight answer to all your questions about why the video vault wasn't fireproof. In part because the Uni people just sound completely frazzled still about the fire's aftermath. But Universal does have an extraordinary history as a leader in film preservation. Still, Hollywood must, repeat must, do everything to preserve its history. So everyone try harder, spend more, and just do it. http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/uni-...eties-affected/
  24. Appropriate? No. Satisfying? Could be.
