  1. Yeah, good thing the TA didn't dream about the incident. That's even more direct than hearing it from a third party psychic!
  2. Still, bet this makes a good "Law & Order" episode next season.
  3. I think that's the key right there. Both Goodspeak and Alex are correct about a teacher's duty to report, but in this case I don't think the "allegation" rises to the level of credible. I mean, hell, if the psychic knew the girl's name and address I'd be damn impressed, but just referring to her by a single letter - well that's just foolish.
  4. One might think this another Chewy quote, but it was actually a "review" on the ol' Blue Note website and my sig line for several years. Not quite in the spirit of the thread, but nevertheless... "If you donot have tis album, you are stupid ass-donkey moron who no like jazz!!!"
  5. "REASONABLY SUSPECTED". I think a psychic's word isn't reasonable suspicion in this case. In your opinion. I'm not willing to risk my credential on some over zealous case worker and their hyper-extended definition of what is or isn't considered reasonable, Aggie. If it means the difference between my staying out of jail and somebody else's happiness the choice is a nobrainer. Mess with the state on this one and you will be burned to the ground first before the truth of it comes out. I'd report it no matter who told me. It simply is not worth the risk, Aggie. Wow. Is the law - hell, the world - that black & white to you?
  6. "REASONABLY SUSPECTED". I think a psychic's word isn't reasonable suspicion in this case. Agreed
  7. Very cool, Chris! Thanks for showing these.
  8. Good thing God himself didn't leave a message in the Cheerios!
  9. It is a good question. But almost any source of energy will produce waste (or be impractical, as much of solar power still is). What are the choices: nuclear waste, polluting coal, petrol by-products, etc. If nothing else, nuclear is clean burning. I think it's at least worth exploring nuclear power after thirty years of ignoring any technological advances.
  10. There are dozens of headlines. Can you narrow it down a little? If you are referring to the nuke plants, then
  11. Christ, how many aliases does Clem have?
  12. There's something about the phrase "Men fillet Charlie the Tuna" that's oddly provocative.
  13. Nothing. Though the suggested gang bang (by four gay male models! ) in the D&G ad is a bit much. Ray - it's a line from "This Is Spinal Tap". After being told the album cover for "Smell The Glove" is sexist, (greased, naked woman on all fours, wearing a dog collar), the guitarist asks "What's wrong with being sexy". To which everyone replies "sex-IST Nigel, sex-IST". Gotcha! Now as punishment for missing that reference I must listen to Kenny G with the amp cranked to "11".

I have one album (Palm of Soul, I think it is), gave it one spin and disliked it intensely. Perhaps I should give it another chance.

  16. Here's my friend Keith's Aurora site... http://www.majormattmason.net/aurora/
  17. Once again proving the power of subjectivity, while I often like Parker, I never really found the appeal of O'Neil's Porch
  18. I've come to believe that one's "inessential" lists are far more revealing and useful than the more typical "essentials." That said, there are a couple on your list that I would deem "essential."
  19. Not jazz, but I can't get Coldplay's new "Viva La Vida" out of my head. Great tune, with Eno producing!
  20. Congrats, Jim, to both you and your daughter. I'm behind you by about ten years, and such stories give me much hope for my future as well.
  21. It's unclear if what you posted are those titles you already have or are considering. You could certainly dig a bit deeper into the BN catalogs of those artists (I really love Lee Morgan's "Leeway" and Hutcherson's "Oblique") but also check out "Basra" (if you can find it), any of the available Three Sounds CDs, and good lord don't forget the Thelonious Monk!
  22. The thing is, we don't know for sure what, if anything, was lost. The post you quoted (Lasker's trip to the vault) referred to something from two years ago. Recent press reports claim that UMG moved much of the stuff earlier this year. We don't know exactly what was moved, if the metal parts were moved, or what the "physical back-up copies" were even of - they might be referring to copies of tapes rather than of lacquers/stampers. Obviously, no matter what the results are it's not a good thing, but without more facts I'm not gonna worry yet about what might or might not have been lost.
  23. Fuckin' works for me, you fuckin' clueless fuck!
  24. Not sure I'd call it a consensus, but... http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/upda...-music-history/ MONDAY AM UPDATE: Universal Music just gave me a "clarification" on my report regarding UMG’s vault and the Universal Studio fire on Sunday: "Thankfully, there was little lost from UMG's vault. A majority of what was formerly stored there was moved earlier this year to our other facilities. Of the small amount that was still there and waiting to be moved, it had already been digitized so the music will still be around for many years to come. And in addition to being digitized, physical back up copies of what was still left at that location were made and stored elsewhere. So thankfully, smart care, administration and preparation of these gems prevailed." So let me get this straight: first there's no report of irreplaceable damage at the Universal Studios vault, then I find out there's musical history destruction because of a rental agreement with Universal Music, and now execs it's only "a little" and not a problem. Funny, because my insiders insist it's a BIG problem. Universal Music claims that over the past year it had been moving master recordings of its "big name" musical artists to the giant Iron Mountain, Pennsylvania vault -- the same one used by Bill Gates and Microsoft. What was left, Universal Music contends, was only "more obscure artists from the '40s and the early '50s." My final thought: the public may never know the truth.
  25. No, I think it's Lasker, with Hoffman being the "Steve" he's referring to.
