"Gone" from Miles Davis and Gil Evans Porgy and Bess
Teasing the Korean replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
Well, that makes sense. Considering that the film of Porgy and Bess is largely forgotten, it is kind of amazing in retrospect how everyone and his brother was trying to rush out a P&G album at the time. -
A Bachelor's Guide to Sauter-Finegan
Teasing the Korean replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Artists
For the throngs of rabid Sauter-Finegan fans who have expressed concern about the status of our Bachelor's Guide, rest assured: Your beloved TTK will soon come roaring back with his incisive, provocative reviews of the final two Sauter-Finegan albums, both recorded for United Artists, and then cap off the thread with an overall evaluation of S-F's body of work as it stands in relation to other postwar musics. In the meantime, if anyone here can find videos for what what carries the potential be my favorite Sauter-Finegan album, Adventure in Time, please share! -
When I was in high school, the NPR station in our market played Nordine's Word Jazz radio show on Friday nights at midnight. Jazz would come on at 1 am. I used to get into bed by midnight, put on the headphones, and space out to Word Jazz. I would go to sleep listening to jazz afterward. That was an exciting time for musical discovery for me. Safe travels, Ken.

The ITC Logo - Edwin Astley

Do you remember the version with the same/similar graphics but a hip, modern woodwind backing? -

I had an LP by him that I unloaded. I liked the LP, but I didn't want to be responsible for something that rare.

The really amazing Herbie Mann album is Impressions of the Middle East, circa 1966 or 67, with arrangements by Arif Mardin.

The ITC Logo - Edwin Astley
Teasing the Korean replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Recommendations
This is CRAZY!!! I had no idea! I have not listened to any rock music in several decades. When I used to listen to the Who, I only listened to the stuff from when they were stylishly dressed, up to maybe 1968 or so. I didn't listen to their music when they looked like sweaty, unwashed hippies, so I don't think I know any of those songs that you posted. Still, I will be eager to listen! The Saint is just the best. I really love that album. I also have Network's 4-CD set of The Saint music from the actual TV soundtracks. I love those suave 1960s British spy music composers, including Astley, Syd Dale, Laurie Johnson, Barry Gray, John Barry, and John Dankworth. And probably others I'm forgetting. -
When I traverse this friendly, freedom-loving land of ours, I am often asked what my favorite brief piece of music is. And without hesitation, I reply, "The ITC Logo, the 1960s one, composed by Edwin Astley." When I was a kid watching TV, if I heard this music and saw this logo, I almost jumped out of my skin, knowing that whatever was coming on next would be great. Here it is. Don't let the 1985 date in the title scare you. This is the 1960s logo. So turn up the speakers, take seven seconds out of your life, and thrill to Edwin Astley's ITC logo.

That's just silly. Let's be honest: ALL JAZZ is cocktail-ish, because it is best to listen to while you're having cocktails. Why would you want to listen to anything else?

A Bachelor's Guide to Sauter-Finegan
Teasing the Korean replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Artists
Before the Sauter-Finegan Limited departs RCA for United Artists, it's worth noting that RCA released a number of S-F tracks on singles or EPs that never made it to LP, and maybe not even CD in some cases. The excellent "Science Fiction" posted previously by JSngry is one example. Here is another, "Dream Play," which may have been inspired by "Clair de Lune," from an RCA EP. I am also posting a link to Discogs' S-F singles page. I would love to hear "Coco Bongo!" https://www.discogs.com/artist/432779-Sauter-Finegan-Orchestra?filter_anv=0&subtype=Singles-EPs&type=Releases -
"Gimme Some Of That Ol' Atonal Music'
Teasing the Korean replied to sgcim's topic in Classical Discussion
I interpreted the song as the singer making fun of people with those attitudes, e.g., "It's all a bunch of noise," rather than making fun of the music itself. -
TTK's Parents in 1960 Rambler Jingle

They are not the on-camera actors, only the singers, but my Mom was indeed beautiful. -
A Bachelor's Guide to Sauter-Finegan
Teasing the Korean replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Artists
The final Sauter-Finegan RCA album I will discuss is a compilation, but it is worth noting, if only to differentiate from an earlier album in the catalog: Inside Sauter-Finegan Revisited - RCA Victor LPM 2473. Cover art: Jim Flora. Now drinking: Strong iced coffee with Silk almond creamer. The album title is similar to Inside Sauter-Finegan. The cover art, by Jim Flora, is similar to that of Inside Sauter-Finegan. But this is not Inside Sauter-Finegan. It is a compilation released in the 1960s, and the album it bears the most resemblance to is the aforementioned New Directions, as it contains 7 of those 12 tracks. The other tracks are from Concert Jazz, The Sound of, and Inside. And like most S-F albums, this too is a mixed bag. The only "new" track is this early single, "The Moon is Blue," featuring the ubiquitous Sally Sweetland. -

I'll tell my parents. How should they initiate payment? -
I'd rather have a Rambler.

It sounds like a Sun Ra track!!! -
Here they are, singing in a (brief) 1960 jingle. Audio, that is. They are not the actors in the video.

A Bachelor's Guide to Sauter-Finegan

A topic that will resurface when our heroes re-record some of their early RCA hits in stereo for United Artists. But let's not get ahead of ourselves!
