  1. Parts of it reminded me of 70s Euro-sleeze that I love so dearly, but it never quite reached the heights of, say, Horst Jankowski's MPS albums or Paul Mauriat, to say nothing of Michel Colombier.
  2. I have an Oppo DVD player, and after entering the code, it plays films from all regions - at least all of the regions that I'm aware of. Is this the case with the Oppo Blu-Ray players?
  3. McCoy Tyner - Song for My Lady - Milestone (label design I'd never seen before, stereo). God, I'm such a sucker for any 70s song or LP title with the word "lady" in it.
  4. Is it worth the upgrade? How do conventional DVDs look when played on Blu-Ray? Will we be forced to upgrade at some point soon anyway (because there won't be conventional DVDs of certain titles available)?
  5. The Blue Stars of France - Pardon My English - Mercury (black label, mono).
  6. Anyone who has ever worked for a non-profit that Steinbrenner "supported" has at least one great story to tell.
  7. I agree, fine album, great line up. As a big Gary McFarland fan, I believe that this album overall does the best job of combining the jazz and pop aspects of McFarland's musical personality.
  8. How did Everest go from being an upscale audiophile classical label to a budget bin label in about 15 years?
  9. Krzysztof Komeda - Cul-de-Sac OST (Harkit, stereo) Better fidelity than the previous b*****g version.
  10. You can buy cartridges that have interchangeable styli.
  11. I don't have an answer to your question, but you may or may not find this interesting: My parents were group singers back in the day, and among many other things, they were in the vocal group on "Your Hit Parade," for which Raymond Scott was the musical director. Imagine my surprise when I bought the "Manhattan Research" CD set and heard their voices (uncredited) on the "Good Air" jingle!
  12. Yes. He's a lot underrated. Whenever a drummer tells me "Ringo sucks," I reply, "OK, play 'She Said She Said' or 'Rain' and you're hired." That usually shuts them up. Amazing how rock/pop drummers under a certain age completely lack that jazzy swing feel evident in Ringo, Charlie Watts, Mick Avory, Jim McCarty, etc.
  13. Which version?
  14. God, we're all getting old. This means that John would have turned 70 this coming October.
  15. Just an aside - Eddie Diehl, a master guitarist who claims Tal Farlow as a major influence, told me that he considers Farlow's playing on these recordings to be some of his finest work. Thanks. While not an expert, I couldn't disagree.
  16. THANKS! Just curious, how did you find this? I tried in a number of different ways, and it didn't show up for me.
  17. A year or two ago, I started a thread about a bunch of KPM reissues that were up on iTunes. Presumably, I posted this in the "Reissues" forum. I think the Man with the Golden Arm may have contributed to the conversation, I can't remember. Anyway, I'm trying to find the thread and it's not showing up. Was the thread deleted, or was it simply part of an opium-induced flight of fancy?
  18. Phil Moore - New York Sweet - Mercury (black label, stereo) Love the smell of Mercury LPs from this era!
  19. Red Norvo Trio - The Savoy Sessions. with Tal Farlow and Charles Mingus. 70s twofer of early 1950s sessions. Mono.
  20. Thanks. Didn't know about that incident, but it all makes sense considering.
  21. I'm curious how Mingus felt about this trio in retrospect. Did Mingus talk much about his time with Red Norvo much in later interviews or writings? I'm not sure I ever encountered anything.
  22. NP: Mr. Oscar Brown, Jr. Goes to Washington - Fontana (pale blue label, mono). Live LP from the 1960s.
  23. I have three of these volumes. Lots of stuff that never otherwise made it to LP, at least that I could find. This stuff must be on CD by now, in some form, I'm guessing.
  24. Yusef Lateef - The Doctor is in and out - Atlantic This album is WILD!!!
  25. Presenting Edu Lobo - Philips (white label promo, stereo)
