I always liked Gary's "Duster" album. Gary is an excellent player. But no-one will ever dislodge Milt Jackson as my all-time favorite vibes player.

Verses are rarely heard in jazz performances of pop tunes. The only one I have ever heard (that I can recall right now) is for "Lush Life", which you can't really play without it.

As far as I know, there is only one Richard Davis. His sound is unmistakeable.

Well, James may be a bit irritating sometimes, but his ministry does aim at helping families in a world of so many serious problems. Hard to fault the guy.

Switch Sound File Converter (what a name, lol), a free download, will convert the annoying m4a into mp3. ( My version of Winamp has m4a as the default for ripping, and it got me for awhile, but I later managed to negotiate its user-unfriendly menus and set the ripping format to mp3. I noticed the problem when I emailed some tracks to a DJ at a radio station and he said that they couldn't play m4a.)

If the Diz/Bird version didn't lock that intro in, the Bird version for Dial in 1947 sure did.

I know all about the love that Miles had for Jamal's work. "New Rhumba" and all that. But my source was some album liner notes, I think. Besides, no doubt, Cannonball was also a Jamal fan. What's not to like about him?

Well it is impossible to be like the 50s and 60s BN material. I don't think they should use the name anymore. Let's face it, Blue Note means Alfred Lion - tho I will accept the later Duke Pearson/Frank Wolff productions.

Mingus did walk out over Max's drumming. You will recall that he only liked Danny Richmond at the time, and would only use him on his recordings. But Duke must have disliked Mingus, because when the personnel for Mingus's concert in 1971 was being chosen (issued by Columbia, and it's great too), the Duke heard that Mingus wanted Harry Carney, and actually paid him not to appear. So, Charlie had to settle for Gerry Mulligan, lol. How sad, when you consider how much Mingus loved Duke's work.

I did read recently that regular wanking in the teens and 20s greatly reduces the likelihood of getting testicular cancer. As that includes all males, though, it can't be a very accurate study, statistically, lol. James Dobson said "85% of boys wank and the other 15% are liars".

I recently downloaded some music and it turned out to be .flac. There seems to be a new suffix every week! Flac means lossless, blah, blah blah, but what good is that if it won't play with any hardware or software? Anyway, I have some software that converts all these thingys (.flac, .ogg, .pdq, ad nauseam) into regular mp3. Where's my LPs?

Well, that statement is based on having heard dozens of the TOCJs, all of which are (for me) the best CD reissues of the album in particular. That series should be made available continually.

My parents had some Robert Farnon, Jim. Light music stuff. He was great. Getting back to the Bird With Strings, they should have been much better. There were probably budget restrictions. As it is, it would have been better if they had never made those records.
