  1. Phoenix is playing very well, but I'm wondering -- will Amare always be a shell of his former self. That would be too bad. Guy
  2. Maybe this makes me a philistine, but I enjoy what I've heard from this guy. I haven't listened that closely, though. Guy
  3. Which Stitt is the best? There are almost 10 of them! It kills me that Concord is going to delete these before I get a chance to listen to all of 'em! Guy

  9. I take it you haven't seen one of these:
  10. It wouldn't surprise me if Olds comes back at some point, given our culture's fascination with retro. That said, the new producer might not be an "American" company. Guy
  11. I'll give Our Thing a spin today.

  16. By the way, if you have never watched "Curb Your Enthusiasm", are curious and are willing to sit through 3 10-minute youtube clips, here is the all-time classic CYE episode "The Doll": link
  17. Since this comment is at the tail end of a long thread it probably won't get any traction but... In reading amazon reviews of this album, I get the feeling that there's a "school of thought" that says this album is indeed a classic, but pretends that Dolphy doesn't play on the album. As if they plug their ears whenever he steps up to the mike. Weird. Guy
  18. I assumed it was scenario 2, but perhaps I was too hasty. I was discussing this with Conn500 over the weekend and my theory is that over the next 50 years, the GM brand (the only thing that's still valuable about the corporation) will be sold to a European- or Asian-based company. Guy
  19. In this case, yes, but the two terms aren't equivalent. A torrent is a specific, relatively efficient way of downloading internet files. Guy
  20. Copenhagen probably ranks in my top three. To avoid doubling with Holy Ghost, I picked up the three extra tracks off of emusic. So to clarify, if I get the Holy Ghost box, will I acquire the most significant Copenhagen material? Guy

  22. This again begs the question of what is meant by "overrated." Does it mean that a given artist is liked more than they "should" be? Or that they have "too many" fans? Or is it that their influence is overestimated? If an overrated artist is one that is liked more than they "should" be, then assuming that there is indeed some objective standard by which one can determine how much an artist is to be liked (which is clearly absurd), then it seems to me that Guy's statement is a tautology and therefore the value of the subject is questionable. Not a tautology. There's the possibility that a large number of people like an artist "just right", which I discount. Guy
  23. I'm too lazy to sort through the list, RT. However, from my recollection the most popular jazz torrents tend to be (electric) Miles. Guy
  24. FWIW, I think most artists are overrated by their fans and underrated by almost everybody else. Guy
  25. I thought this was an interesting list.
