  1. I recently saw a really good episode from the 5th season -- "Darmok" -- I thought it was powerful. Guy
  2. I do -- so do Jazz Kat, Nate Dorward, Ron Lyles and kh1958. Guy
  3. On Thursday, Phoenix visits Dallas and Utah visits San Antonio -- western conference powers battle it out. Unfortunately only the Phoenix game is televised. Guy
  4. I listened to the Boogaloo Joe Jones and was somewhat underwhelmed. I was expecting something "greazier". Guy
  5. Props to Bertrand for putting together the composition list, and for Michelle for correcting the errors in the previous version. Guy
  6. I picked up #6 before a flight yesterday and finished it today. I enjoyed it a lot, though I wonder how she is going to tie up all the loose ends in "just" 700 pages. I was reading up on the response to this series by critics like Harold Bloom. Hilarious. Guy
  7. Too bad about Yao getting injured -- he was having an MVP-caliber season. (Sorry Shaq, you're old and decrepit.) Also, Philly has won two games in a row since Iverson left. (Against terrible teams.) Guy
  8. I've never seen this movie. Guy
  9. It's good to have you around, MG. Guy
  10. It's a very good album but my least favorite of the 2nd quintet recordings. I think Miles would "figure things out" on Filles de Kilimanjaro. Guy
  11. It's funny you mention that -- the exact same thing happened to me yesterday with my selection of the month. I got an empty box that was open. Guy
  12. "Backwoods Song", "Sorcery I", "May Dance" on Gateway "Timeless" on Timeless "Dorotea's Studio" on Charles Lloyd's Voice in the Night Guy
  13. I don't have a comprehensive ECM collection but these are my favorites: Charles Lloyd, Canto Charles Lloyd, Voice in the Night Paul Motian, Tribute Paul Motian, I Have the Room Above Her Jack DeJohnette, Special Edition Keith Jarrett, The Cure (but the best Keith is on Impulse!) Keith Jarrett, Blue Note box disc 3 Abercrombie/Holland/DeJohnette, Gateway Dave Holland, Conference of the Birds Chick Corea, Return to Forever
  14. Right now it looks like we are heading toward an eastern conference rematch between the Pistons and Heat, with Chicago as a dark horse. The Bulls are really picking up steam. My prediction on November 1st was: Guy
  15. I was googling them online and found the following album review. It seems like the writer has an imperfect grasp of English (or even used google's translate tool) but is amusing nonetheless.
  16. If I was LeBron, I would too. Aside from him the team pretty much sucks. Guy
  17. I'm really digging this global warming thing! It's been in the 40s most of December and shows no sign of abating. Guy
  18. What are these guys all doing in northern North America? Guy
  19. I remember that -- it was really odd. I assume Kinsey was the one triggering it. That was my perspective as well, aside from occasional wooshing sounds -- perhaps he was underutilized, though a DJ is one of those things where too much is a lot worse than too little. Guy
  20. I need to get me more Big John Patton! Guy
  21. I have three of this group's albums -- the two Black Saints and the self-titled ECM. I have to admit I find them somewhat disappointing. I like the ECM the best -- it has the terrific cover of "Lonely Woman", along with two fantastic originals ("Togo" and "Guinea") -- but it peters out in the second half. Anyway, in general it seems to me like these guys sounded better when they were playing with Ornette; the main exception is Blackwell, who is fantastic on all three of these discs. Guy
  22. So what? Guy
  23. I vote against DVDs -- I can't watch them while I'm driving in my car or working on a project. Guy
  24. Woohoo! The Warriors finally win a road game! Hopefully the next victory won't take so long. Guy
  25. I can't see any good coming out of this. I disagree. If Iverson can learn to play with others, then Denver becomes a very strong team (but not strong enough to beat the big 3 in the west). Obviously if he hogs the ball then this will not have a good end. Philly gains the advantage of blowing up and starting from scratch -- definitely a better situation than their current one. Andre Miller isn't exactly chump change either. Guy
