  1. Thanks mucho for posting that, Brownie. Guy
  2. What a waste of our judicial system's time! Guy
  3. 10 greatest PGs of all time 1. Magic 2. Oscar Robertson 3. Isiah Thomas 4. John Stockton 5. Bob Cousy 6. Walt Frazier 7. Jason Kidd 8. Tiny Archibald 9. Steve Nash 10. Gary Payton I would probably reverse Payton and Nash. Guy
  4. I just realized that the AAC format doesn't take up more memory to store silence. Guy
  5. I had a similar reaction. I think the first OJCs I ever picked up were Monk's Music and Brilliant Corners. Guy
  6. Muchas gracia! Guy
  7. I have a CD with a 30 minute track, 15 of which is only silence. Is there a way to rip only the first half, on EAC or (preferably) Itunes? Guy
  8. Isn't that a little weird? Do the Spurs/Mavs and Pistons/Cavs really need four days off? Guy
  9. I don't have much to add except that I agree. Certain labels seem to be fetishized at times (BN isn't the only one), whereas there isn't much of a mystique surrounding Prestige or Riverside. That said, there are a lot of great albums on BN. If we're talking #s, 8 of the last 100 CDs I've purchased were recorded for BN. ed: Wanted to add that hey, props to Blue Note for maintaining and cultivating the mystique. If it leads more people to listen to jazz, excellent. Guy
  10. still think miami stinks jim! Yep. If they make it past the Nets, just wait until the Pistons get their hands on them. The Nets seem to match up better against Detroit than Miami does. Guy
  11. still think miami stinks jim! Whoop dee doo, they beat New Jersey at home. The Clips are beating Phoenix at their own game. Crazy. Guy
  12. As of right now, these are Tradesports (online betting market) probabilities of victory in each semifinals series: Spurs vs. Dallas: Spurs 44.5-46.0% Miami vs. Jersey: Miami 54.0-68.0% (no clue why the gap is so big) Cleveland vs. Detroit: Detroit 96.6-98.0% Clippers vs. Suns: Suns 70.2-70.3% These are the probabilities of winning it all: Pistons: 52.6-54.2% Mavericks: 16.0-17.0% Spurs: 16.0-16.5% Suns: 5.2-9.1% Heat: 4.3-6.3% Nets: 2.8-4.3% Clippers: 1.7-2.0% Cavaliers: 0.7-0.8%
  13. I see your point, but on Stellar Regions I think she is a perfect counterpart - any other pianist of the time might have interferred with Trane's need for a self-effacing but present pianist. I wish he had lived and this band had played on for some more years - I find this to be some very concentrated music, just like the duets. I agree with Mike about Alice. I feel she came up short on the live performances, when she had to solo at length. But on Stellar Regions she is indeed a nice counterpart. I think the bells add a lot to the ritualistic mystery of Interstellar Space. By the way if you haven't done an AOTW recently volunteer and pm JohnS -- I think we are close to running out. Guy
  14. Mavs looked great last night. I figure the teams will split the next two games and the Mavs will need to win another game in SA. Guy
  15. If I was writing the show, I would have had Logan go through with the suicide attempt only to discover that the gun wasn't loaded. Or maybe fire the only bullet but miss. Perfect. Guy
  16. The twist at the end of last night's episode was lame. Guy
  17. No. But you still get some points for getting close -- for example, 3 pts for picking the wrong winner of a series that goes 7 games. Guy i think that is what i meant. why would you get 3 pts if it went to game 7? is that only if you picked it to go 6? Let's say that you pick the Suns to beat the Clippers in 7. The Clippers end up winning the series in 7. Since you were within one game of picking the outcome correctly, you get 3 points. If the Clippers end up winning in 6, you get 1 pt because you were within 2 games. Guy
  18. What's Elton Brand's career high? He gave Sam Cassell a good whack in the head near the end of the game. The Clips will have a hard time winning at the Suns' pace. They were close in this one, though. Do people agree with Barkley's claim that Kobe intentionally stopped shooting at the end of game 7 to prove a point? ( Text message him to let him know. ) Guy
  19. Heck, it's amazing I am not even lower considering I got both the Denver-Clips and Clev-Wash series wrong. Now that is strange, if you got two series wrong that is a possible 20 points off. How could you have 66 points. Sounds like your tops would be 60 if everything else was perfect. Exactly what were your picks, can you check the picks Soulstation?? (not trying to rain on his parade but he admits to having two series completely wrong). There was only a possibility of 80 points if a person was perfect on all picks. Holystitt didn't get 66 pts, that was conn500. Guy
  20. No. But you still get some points for getting close -- for example, 3 pts for picking the wrong winner of a series that goes 7 games. Guy
  21. That's just Jim A using voodoo. Guy
  22. I turned to the game late. Why was everyone wearing white? This could be an implosion of epic proportions. Guy
  23. I'm still confused, but I aint giving up any of my 66 points! It's even more impressive since you completely got the Denver-Clips series wrong. Precision is rewarded, my friend! Guy
  24. That is a puzzle, Jack. Not that I have anything against Expression, but I don't think it's as inspired as IS. I guess Trane thought differently. I wonder who named the "tunes". The bit where Trane and Rashied break into straightahead swing on "Saturn" is exhilarating. One more thought: I picked this and Sun Ship up at the same time four or five years ago, and they were essentially converted me into a "Late Trane" fan. But these two albums are so far apart musically and conceptually that they prove the "Late Trane" moniker is only useful as a chronological demarcation, not as a useful description of the music.
