  1. I finally listened to Last from Lennie's this week. I think I like it a little better than the other volume (Quartet Live!) -- I don't really like Farrell's drumming. Anyway, nice disc. This is a classic album. Guy
  2. Probably not, given that it's being adopted. Guy
  3. Well done!
  4. I only have two Palmetto discs -- Andrew Hill's Dusk and Ben Allison's Riding the Nuclear Tiger. I like both very much. Guy
  5. I think it's interesting that after leaving Coltrane's band, Pharoah* (the guy who was probably considered the most radical member of that group, at least at the time) went in a more conservative direction. Leon Thomas joined Santana a few years later. I will dig this one out. Guy
  6. My next pick is Marc Johnson's Shades of Jade, followed by Dave Holland and Barre Phillips's Music for 2 Basses. Guy
  7. Isn't calling Eddie Henderson a "true original" a bit over the top? Guy
  8. Impressive win by the Mavs. Hopefully this is indicative of a competitive 2nd round matchup. Guy
  9. Woah woah woah. I did not intend "out of tune" as a negative characteristic but rather as a description. Jackie and Charles are two of my favorite saxophonists. Guy
  10. Jackie McLean's passing made me think of this topic. Some guys who tended to play out of tune: Jackie McLean Charles Lloyd
  11. reviews from the May 2004 Jackie-Grachan-Hutch reunion I saw Jackie twice, in May of 2003 and May of 2004. I liked the 2004 gig a little better. Jackie was a nice guy, I got autographs from him both times (though he made fun of my name a little). Guy
  12. This is a great version. "Footprints" by the Miles Davis quintet is an obvious one. Guy
  13. What a pointless article. Guy
  14. I think neither team has much of a chance to beat Detroit in a 7 game series, barring an injury to one of the Pistons' starters. Guy
  15. Nets will win #14 tonight. If Miami also loses as well, the gap between these two teams shrinks to 2.5 games. Both teams have really easy schedules after tonight's games. Guy
  16. For a second I thought you wrote "...when I'm driving and don't feel like listening to the radio." I have a 400+ item list on amazon. It used to grow a lot faster but is more or less stable these days. The bad news is that I have a 50 CD backlog at home. Guy
  17. Has the Mingus at Monterey (1964, the one with an octet version of "Meditations") ever been issued on CD? I guess with Concord in charge we're never going to see this reissued. Guy
  18. Don't really care either way. Television is the worst way to get news. Guy
  19. I take it you guys haven't heard of this book. Guy
  20. Experts say it was hotter 247M years ago, but it also was a great time to photosynthesize.
  21. Tonight's episode was great until the twist at the end which made NO SENSE given everything that's transpired in the previous 15 episodes. Guy ps I have no clue how Wayne Palmer got the rifle, but I was sure he was a goner after Jack gave him the whole "you're not coming with me" speech. pps I hope it turns out that Bill Buchanan turns out to be the real mastermind behind the day's events, and exacts his vengeance on Audrey. Or becomes her next secret lover.
  22. Until 2106. Guy
  23. I think the evolution of "Directions" from 1968 to 1971 is really interesting. Guy
