Sports: 2006 NBA Play-Off Pool

No. But you still get some points for getting close -- for example, 3 pts for picking the wrong winner of a series that goes 7 games. Guy i think that is what i meant. why would you get 3 pts if it went to game 7? is that only if you picked it to go 6? Let's say that you pick the Suns to beat the Clippers in 7. The Clippers end up winning the series in 7. Since you were within one game of picking the outcome correctly, you get 3 points. If the Clippers end up winning in 6, you get 1 pt because you were within 2 games. Guy -

What's Elton Brand's career high? He gave Sam Cassell a good whack in the head near the end of the game. The Clips will have a hard time winning at the Suns' pace. They were close in this one, though. Do people agree with Barkley's claim that Kobe intentionally stopped shooting at the end of game 7 to prove a point? ( Text message him to let him know. ) Guy -

Heck, it's amazing I am not even lower considering I got both the Denver-Clips and Clev-Wash series wrong. Now that is strange, if you got two series wrong that is a possible 20 points off. How could you have 66 points. Sounds like your tops would be 60 if everything else was perfect. Exactly what were your picks, can you check the picks Soulstation?? (not trying to rain on his parade but he admits to having two series completely wrong). There was only a possibility of 80 points if a person was perfect on all picks. Holystitt didn't get 66 pts, that was conn500. Guy -

I turned to the game late. Why was everyone wearing white? This could be an implosion of epic proportions. Guy -

I'm still confused, but I aint giving up any of my 66 points! It's even more impressive since you completely got the Denver-Clips series wrong. Precision is rewarded, my friend! Guy -
That is a puzzle, Jack. Not that I have anything against Expression, but I don't think it's as inspired as IS. I guess Trane thought differently. I wonder who named the "tunes". The bit where Trane and Rashied break into straightahead swing on "Saturn" is exhilarating. One more thought: I picked this and Sun Ship up at the same time four or five years ago, and they were essentially converted me into a "Late Trane" fan. But these two albums are so far apart musically and conceptually that they prove the "Late Trane" moniker is only useful as a chronological demarcation, not as a useful description of the music.

It will take the Cavs 2 or 3 years until they beat the Pistons in a series. Guy -
John Coltrane - Interstellar Space (click to buy) 1. Mars 2. Venus 3. Jupiter 4. Saturn 5. Leo 6. Jupiter Variation Though it gets lumped with other "late", post-1965 or avant-garde Coltrane recordings, this album sounds very little like any other Trane recording. Even if you dislike Meditations or Ascension, there's a chance that you'll like this -- and vice versa. The absence of Pharoah Sanders makes this record easier on the ears, and a lot less ferocious. On the other hand people who love the hardcore intensity of stuff like Meditations or Sun Ship may find Interstellar Space to be a little too abstract or austere. The absence of piano creates a lot of space, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on your tastes. The music is unbelievable. Trane just PLAYS on this album, with none of his abilities impaired in the least. I actually find a lot of Trane's playing to be "easy on the ears" relative to other albums in this genre. Rashied Ali is obviously not Elvin Jones, but he complements Trane perfectly and fuels his ideas. It's interesting to contrast this with the duets Trane recorded with Art Taylor, Roy Haynes and Elvin. Will post more comments later.

According to the tradesports betting markets, the Suns are approximately 7-3 favorites. Guy -
I'm listening to this recording by the same band that recorded Pangaea and Agharta a week or two later. What a great performance! And the sound is much, much better than the officially released albums. Guy ps Cosey is doing the freakiest shit on "Maiysha"!

I was thinking about the rules... let's say that in later rounds, you can't get any points for a series if neither of the teams you picked make it. i.e. if you pick the Spurs to beat the Suns in 5 and the series turns out to be Kings over Clippers in 5, you don't get points for picking the right number of games. But if the Spurs beat the Clips in 5, you do get those points. Guy -
One thing to keep in mind is that the box does not include the live half of Live at Birdland so you will have to pick that up separately. Guy

Chuck once said is that he gets a lot out of the alternate takes in this box. I agree -- Herbie's compositions are so interesting that they bring out interesting stuff each performance. For what it's worth, I'm totally deaf to the Dixieland and Caribbean influences in Herbie's music. Guy -
