  1. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place but I only seem to be able to turn up threads about one or two individual symphonies - nothing approaching a comprehensive guide and nothing really even about the song cycles. Sorry if I'm being thick here but if someone could point me in the right direction or take the time to share the wealth of their experience, I'd be grateful!
  2. Have been enjoying the recent reissue of Maderna's Mahler 9 and the Ondine recording of the 6th. Now I'm looking for strong recordings of the other symphonies and the song cycles. Can anyone help?
  3. European Episode & Impressive Rome (Konitz/Solal - see original post) have been reissued together on CamJazz. Contrary to the prevalent opinion on this thread, I think it's a great release and well worth hearing for all Konitz fans.
  4. Miles Davis and Kitsch: An Entangled Legacy
  5. I think New Dance is a very beautiful record, and has a refreshing quality which has endured every time I have pulled it out from the shelf. The only other CD I have is Anthony Ortega on Evidence which didn't really do anything for me.
  6. I'm happy to consider any offers people might have for my set. I'm not keen on eBay selling and the thing is still sitting here. For what it's worth, I did check all the online avenues I could think of before setting the price at £100 (which was cheaper than any of them by some way). It wasn't my intention to profiteer but I did pay £85 for this in a UK high street chain, so a £15 mark-up for a rare item didn't seem that unreasonable...
  7. I am considering selling this Mosaic set (have become very strapped for cash). Does anyone have a clue how much I could ask for it?
  8. As I'm sure most are aware, this is now OOP. I am after £100 for it plus postage from EU. Payment by Paypal. Condition is almost as new. 'Excellent' I guess, if we're talking professional grading. Please PM me if interested in and thanks for looking.
  9. Those places are still around in force and they rock. http://www.japanimprov.com/yotomo/jazzcafe.html There was a good one mentioned in a Brotzmann FMP sleevenote - sorry, I forgot the names of both the cafe and the CD.
  10. I like the Gryce a lot, Nica's Tempo, with Monk aboard. Shuffle Boil.
  11. I don't know if Mr Curson has a place in Finland or what but he plays at Pori Jazz every year and also turns up playing dates in some small towns during the summer. Unfortunately, I haven't heard him, but I will rectify this in a few months if the trend continues...
  12. 1927 and 1927-31. Both as new. Please PM with an offer if interested. Thanks for looking...
  13. Bumping this just to ask if there is any news. Seems exciting particularly in light of this quote... "The dream for me," says Mann, "is to put out Imagine the Sound with a new digital audio mix. It was recorded at a 24-track studio by Phil Sheridan, so I would be able to remix it digitally and in stereo and provide some of the additional performances that Archie Shepp and Cecil Taylor did that aren't in the movie." http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_07.25.02/film/mann.php
  14. Someone bag the Marsh, for **c*'s sake!
  15. I had been listening to the Victor box for a few weeks and really loving it... but to hear the Brunswick/Vocalion recordings of pieces like The Mooche and Black and Tan Fantasy today was incredible. I'll look into those other titles. Thanks again for your help!
  16. I returned home today to find a sealed copy waiting in the mail. Fantastic music which I am enjoying immensely. Thanks for the advice. I have the Victor material too but the rest of the early Ellington recordings seem pretty daunting to collect... a dubious 40 CD boxed set or numerous OOP Chronological Classics. Is there an easier way?
  17. Unto Mononen Rauli "Badding" Somerjoki Topi Sorsakoski
  18. Peggy Lee Stanley Dance Michael Flatley
  19. John Smith Alec Guinness Oliver Reed
  20. Kenny Everett Steve Bent Mark E. Smith
  21. His solo on Impaler, the first track on Citizen Tain, fucking kills.
  22. Margaret Thatcher Satan Robert Johnson
  23. Blanche Deveraux Estelle Getty Abraham Lincoln
  24. Yes, thanks. Actually someone distributed it in DVD format on dimeadozen. Superb, but all that cod philosophy really adds a surreal twist!
