Duke: Carnegie Hall Concerts: 1943-1947
alppila replied to mjzee's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The packaging is comprised of two oversized "double CD" cases, each of which contains 4 discs. These are housed in a single cardboard slipcase. The booklet contains facsimiles of the notes from each of the individual releases compiled here (in a rather small typeface), which leads me to infer that no unreleased or bonus material of any kind is included. Unfortunately I can't compare these recordings to previous issues. The only thing I can say about the mastering is that they have leaned a little too heavily on denoising for my taste. No mastering credit of any kind is provided in the set as far as I can see. Can't sum it up any better than that! Glad to have it, though. -

This arrived here today. All new material to these ears - great stuff! -
It was Cook, now sadly deceased.

Looking for a copy of the Mosaic Select Pacific Jazz Piano Trios, which went away last year. Please PM me if you have a copy you're willing to part with!

Would really love to see this happen. Half of the Bill Dixon discs on these labels are OOP at the moment (and those are the ones I'm missing, of course).

LF: Tristano Marsh Konitz Mosaic box (affordable)
alppila replied to AmirBagachelles's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Hi - I went through this same headache a while ago, but soon realised (thanks to certain board members) that the vast majority of this set is now available on individual discs (most are recent remasters), which can be picked up for a fraction of the box's average second hand price tag. If you're interested, I could point you to the titles when I have some more time on my hands... -

I have a mint (as new) DIW CD - no OBI, though. PM me with an offer if interested. -
I can't believe no one has mentioned Celibidache!

I noticed somewhere (this isn't on their web site yet) that they're issuing a Sun Ra title called Continuation. Info below. Anyone heard this set? Sun Ra - Continuation The 5th Sun Ra Deluxe CD reissue on UMS... A Key, Long-Lost 60s Space Relic! ATAVISTIC & the UMS issue the 5th SUN RA DELUXE CD REISSUE featuring PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED RECORDINGS. A spectacular and rarely heard Saturn Research LP presenting music recorded in the mid 1960s in New York, Continuation features space classics like "Biosphere Blues," "Earth Primitive Earth," and an unheralded appearance of "Second Stop is Jupiter," with Marshall Allen featured on Jupiterian flute and Danny Thompson on Neptunian libflecto. Bold Bauhaus-ish artwork, liner notes by Scott Nielsen. "(excerpted) Continuation is an interesting late-'60s date with a nice mixture of styles (ranging from) great slow blues, creepy space voice, very cool space-exotica, crazed circus fanfare and a cacophonous romp..." ~ Sean Westergaard, All Music Guide

eBay/PayPal return policies
alppila replied to trane_fanatic's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Contact the buyer just once for a return (based on your dissatisfaction with the condition of the items) and full refund. Sounds like you may have tried this already, but, if not, you should do as a first step. If he refuses, open up a Paypal dispute. IIRC there is an option in the Paypal process that reads something like "items undelivered or not as described". Don't feel guilty about it - if you've been misled, you're entitled to your money back as a bare minimum. When you send the stuff back, I would spring for proof of postage just to be sure (Paypal can be incredibly bureaucratic). -
FS: Ellington Centennial 24 disc box
alppila replied to sjarrell's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Unreservedly recommended - and a fair price to boot. -
Probably this... It's a classic amongst pianophiles. I also enjoy the 'Richter in Prague' series on Praga, but I'm no expert.
-
Hmm... In my case, it's "How did I get so much Hill?" I'm not the biggest fan in the world but somehow through a succession of bargains and chance encounters I ended up with the Mosaic box and a bunch of spares to boot.

I've yet to find a music blog, or blog of any kind for that matter, of the standard of On An Overgrown Path. This guy has spent a lifetime working in the classical music industry. The blog has a nice line in myth busting and demystification underscored by its writer's good taste and way with words.

Sorry to dredge this up but can anyone tell me if these are available on CD?
-
Received the Chopin this morning and have been listening to the first disc (Nocturnes) on repeat since. Highly recommended set!
-
Looks like a bargain!

Hi, Which collection would this be? Could you provide a link, please? Thanks!

alppila replied to Bluerein's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Better yet, get it here... http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-language...;language=en_JP Dirt cheap too. Follow the standard Amazon steps and you can change to English for the important bits. If the cheapest won't send outside Japan, move on up until you find one that will. -
Is the same music on this disc? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000M5KQ7K/
