  2. I can only speak for myself, but no, I'm not saying that at all. I have no idea how he, or anyone else, ends up in that situation. The possible reasons are endless. I'm only saying that it's sobering to realize such a talented and respected musician could end up there.
  3. Sobering, indeed. King Kong... Brilliant keyboardist.
  4. Heh. Very nice.
  5. Wow! Into The Great Wide Open charted higher than Full Moon Fever?! That's surprising.
  6. Absolutely. The stuff he did with Lynne was a bit too glittery, but the tunes were strong enough to overcome it, IMO
  7. You know, you are 100% correct. I don't think I appreciated him enough throughout most of his career, because FM radio shoved his music down our throats. But stepping back and looking at the bigger picture, I can't help but agree with you. It's odd. When Bowie died I suddenly had an urge to go back and revisit his career/catalog because I thought I'd truly missed out on something special. And while he DID put out some great tunes, I found overall that my opinion of his career really didn't change. Not so with Petty. Been hearing some of his older stuff on the radio today, and realizing that, yeah, I should have been paying closer attention.
  8. A woefully overlooked album. And one of the better album openers of all time, IMO.
  9. Hope it's been a great one, Ken!
  10. That's one thing I don't miss about Florida. Year-round lawn maintenance. It was a weird adjustment when we moved to Missouri, because our rainy season here is actually in the Spring.
  11. The news of his death has been grossly exaggerated?
  12. Should be interesting, actually. The Chiefs are the same ol' regular season machine, but I still have no clue what the 'Skins are right now.
  13. Absolutely, Milestones. I apologise if I implied otherwise. I certainly didn't mean to lay blame on those running for their lives. We'd have all done the same thing. A horrendous scene that I can't even imagine...
  14. You pretty much summed up MY story of Tom Petty fandom here. And the Sam Smith thing was handled perfectly by both sides. Neither seemed bothered by it at all. Once I heard the similarities, I knew that Petty could have sued the pants off of him, but chose not to. Good stuff.
  15. WOW! That's truly a shame... I wasn't a big fan of his earliest stuff, but pretty much everything he did from Full Moon Fever on was truly outstanding. Wildflower and Mojo, most notably. His band was at the height of their power on this date.
  16. Goddamn... Now up to 58 dead, 400 injured. One has to wonder how many were killed/injured by the actually gunman, and how many sustained serious/mortal injuries during the ensuing stampede...
  17. Dweezil is still part of the trust, just a minority owner.
  18. You know, I'm certainly willing to entertain that opinion. Now, if I had to choose only one it would still be Wyatt Earp. But it would be a tough choice. Dances With Wolves had the superior musical score, hands down. And that final gunfight in Open Range is the best ever committed to film. And arguably the best cinematography of the three. Three incredibly well done movies.
  19. Horrific. When I left for work at 5 a.m. The death toll was already a staggering 20, with 100 injured. About an hour later it had jumped to 50 dead, 200 injured. I'm scared to see if those numbers have gone up again.
  20. Your boys look worse than I thought they would...
  21. I blame all the northeasterners that invaded and overtook the state a few decades ago.
  22. Maybe he'll finally find the killers!
  23. Thanks, HP. I have to say that I agree with the consensus. I honestly do not get the whole hologram thing. I guess if I were sitting in the front row, and the hologram was incredibly detailed and well done, I'd at least marvel at the technology. But aside from that, it seems tacky and pointless. Ahmet Zappa is a singer, BTW. Many would consider that to be a musician.
  24. I understand, thanks for the explanation. Though I will have to offer a minor correction: that phenomenon doesn't only exist on the left.
