  1. It's not so much that, it's that once WAR is cited, the conversation is supposedly over.
  2. Yes, Lagavulin is incredibly peaty/smoky. More so than Laphroaig.
  3. That's arguably the finest "budget" single malt around. First time I had it, it was $20. Have you tried the 12y.o Balvenie double barrel? That's my second favorite Scotch behind Lagavulin.
  4. http://everydaycupofenglish.com/2014/09/16/artist-vs-artiste-vs-artisan/ Seems to be nothing particularly elitist involved. More that people simply use artist as a catch all descriptor.
  5. I didn't put any words in your mouth. You asked a clear question: is "artiste" a new way of spelling that word? Then you went on to say how odd it looked in print to you. Now you're choosing to be too clever by half. Have a good day, brother.
  6. First you ask if "artiste" is a new way of spelling the word. Now you want to act like a douche while claiming you're familiar with "the word as such". C'est la vie is NOT in my mother tongue either. But I damn well know what it means and wouldn't be asking any cutesy questions about, "gee, when did they start spelling it like that" then later cover my tracks by claiming I knew it the whole time. And if you honestly believe that what I'm doing is "splitting hairs", then you have no idea what that means, either.
  7. It's not a new way of spelling the word, nor is it meant to sound pseudo-French. It's a genuine and accepted spellling of the word. How anyone in touch with art isn't familiar with this word, or the spelling of it is pretty amusing, to say the least.
  8. Hahaha... Best troll job ever!
  9. I can speak on his behalf and say there is so much incredible music out there without either of those instruments, that he hasn't missed all that much. I love those instruments in other genres, just not Jazz. I love my Jazz 100% acoustic.
  10. Damn, dude kinda sounds like me. Not that I necessarily "love" Wynton. But I don't care for the B3, and definitely do not like synthesizers and electric bass in Jazz. Though I do have an album Ras Moshe did that has a cat playing synthesizer on it that I thoroughly enjoy.
  11. Sounds like a pretty contentious relationship. Why not just turn down those gigs? Or is it your only source of income?
  12. I didn't. By choice, though.
  13. I prefer averages, not estimates. Give me numbers that actually have happened, not numbers you think will happen.
  14. Again, Larry. It's a meaningless stats to most fans. And most fans who use it don't understand it. Even a little.
  15. And when you say distant, you ain't bullshittin'! The range those AM stations had was staggering.
  16. Oh yeah, there were records in damn near every room of our house when I was a kid. My father with his Christian and Classical, my mother with her Country & Western and Gospel, my sister with her 70's Hard Rock, my brother with his Chicago and Chuck Mangione proto Smooth Jazz, and me with my KISS and Beatles collection.
  17. Jim, what I meant was the amount of recorded music/genres available on the market back in the 60's as compared to today. It had to be FAR smaller than what it is now.
  18. I'm assuming there was also nowhere near the market saturation that we have today? Which would have made everything that much more exclusive.
  19. $5.95 from 1960 would be $48.24 today. $2.98 would be $24.16.
  20. Oh my. At least she didn't suffer long. Poor lady.
  21. Yeah, I'm assuming there was an illness involved. Very sad.
  22. So why sigh and announce he's "had enough"? It wasn't the dramatic exit we've seen from others, but the intent sure looked the same. Just do like Larry (IIRC) did some time back and let people know you won't be around for awhile, and how they can contact you.
  23. He announced he was running away at one point.
  24. Does Stereo Jack still post here? I don't recall seeing him lately.
