Good call, Kevin! Those OLED sets are truly beautiful.

Plasma's definitely have the superior picture over LED/LCD. Only downside is they weight a fucking ton and a half.

If you want the most artifact and distortion free sound possible, then it would be CD. But, some folks find the harmonic distortion ("warmth") that vinyl introduces to be pleasant, which leads them to believe LP is the superior medium. They both sound fine, and I can listen to either and enjoy them equally (as long as the LP is in pristine condition). But I'd never try to fool myself into thinking they're equal, or that LP is superior.

I was right there with you on DVD vs Blu-ray. I had Blu-ray capabilities with my PS3 for a couple of years before I finally rented a Blu-ray just to see what the hullabaloo was all about. HOLY MOLY! I didn't even have to A->B! As for 4K, have you ever checked one out in the store? The difference between them and regular LED/LCD is like the difference between DVD and Blu-ray. They're really impressive. But, I don't plan on getting one any time soon. I tend to be a late adopter with almost all technology for some reason. I'm pretty sure I was the last person on the planet to buy a CD player. Not to mention a smart phone.

Depending on factors like room size/placement from viewing seat, and whether you plan on using it mostly for broadcast tv or DVD/Blu-ray watching, you may consider something a bit smaller than 60". The larger size would be better for movies, but television stations can be exposed for their poorer quality on screens that large.

Bandcamp - thumbs up for user experience

I'd never heard of this before. Thanks for the heads up! -
Well, I use iTunes for all of those things. You can download album art from places like albumart.org (or just do a Google search, there are a lot of places to find artwork), though the rest of the information would have to be manually entered as far as I know. As for getting it to your stereo, you can grab an Apple TV and just stream it from your iTunes library as long as you have a Wi-Fi router in your home. Or if you're using a laptop you can always just get a usb to RCA cable and connect it directly to the preamp.

Poppy is such a doll. Again, this is science vs. faith. Hitchens Razor can be applied to audiophilia: "What can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence." Though I like to modify it and say, "what is asserted without evidence, should be dismissed without evidence."

Yeah, I took Melatonin that night, and that just made things that much worse. I actually stayed up until 7pm that Monday. So I went 36.5 hours on a half hour of sleep. Terrible, terrible day. But, I've been sleeping all the way through the night since then. My wife said it was the full moon that got me... Glad to hear things are improving on your end, though.

I hear you. Sunday night I slept for all of a half hour. Work on Monday was just a bundle of fun...

Brother, if you truly don't see this: "Essentially, fetishism is the emic attribution of inherent value or powers to an object." ...as describing EXACTLY what I'm saying then you need to start revisiting your dictionary.

Alright, alright. I was out of line. Just really annoyed that you put me ignore in the first place. I'm going to delete those posts.

I concur. I can't think of anything that precious to me outside of family items with sentimental value. But a product? No, absolutely not.

If I were a serious collector, I might. But I don't get the mind set. So no, I wouldn't gladly pay that much for either. I'd pay a few bucks for a used CD on eBay, and 2.99 for a digital book on iTunes because I don't believe any particular edition of something is superior enough to justify such stupid prices. Only one who fetishizes such things would. And that was my point. You said the term wasn't applicable, but it most certainly is.

I disagree. Fetishism is the belief that something is greater than all others, or is more potent or powerful than others. Like the belief that LPs are superior to CDs, for example. So in the examples you've given, the first pressing of indeed, or the first copy of Origin Of A Species is thought by some to be superior over the millions of other copies. That is indeed a fetishisation of said items. It's proven a fetish through the actions of the buyer. The only way you can prove it is narcissism is to prove the buyers intent to use it as a status symbol.

What other username did you used to post under?

Parity for a change? I've seen several posters warned over the last couple years about trying to bring politics and/or religion into conversations. And since you and I were the two of the major players in the demise of the politics forum, neither of us have any room to complain.

Ah, OK. Make sure you let us know how you like it all. Looks like a really quality system. Are you considering adding a sub?

You were told to cease and desist by a moderator. I'd call that cigar enough.

Those speakers are really amazing, aren't they?

Nice! An outstanding choice, IMO. If I hadn't been putting together a big Emotive order at the time, I'd have gone with Monoprice cables, myself. So what's the break down of your system as it currently stands?
