Comcast also! I've been having problems all night long....and it's driving me CRAZY! Here's an intersting twist...my home computer has sporadic connection...but my laptop won't connect at all.... POLTERGEIST!

If you like Clark...this album is a MUST HAVE. One of my all-time favorite jazz albums...and I am NOT an Oscar Peterson fan. Clark is simply stunning throughout...whether he's trading fours with himself (trumpet in one hand, flugelhorn in the other), debuting the Mumbles character...or just plain WAILING...this is an almost superhuman performance and a real desert island disc.

Yes, it tracks at the consumer level at least for the initial transfer...not sure if it keeps tabs on usage rights once the songs are on the portable device. Tracks exported to portable devices have specific Janus licenses tied to them, if you don't sync your MP3 player regularly, the subscription (rental) license for the tracks expire at your montly billing cycle date.
-
Any service that uses the Windows Janus DRM, tracks usage of all tracks (streams, downloads, transfers). This usage is then passed back to the record labels, distributors, ASCAP, BMI, etc. Not sure where it goes from there, but I do know that it's tracked on usage per track.

One of my first cars was a 1973 VW Beetle (just like the one in the pic below, same color). I had a love/hate relationship with it, in the 3 years I owned it, I think I replaced every part on the car! If I remember correctly, I bought it for $1000 and by the time I got rid of it, I had invested another $1700 in parts and labor....did I mention they picked the perfect color for it? Lemon....

Well, if we're talking about our ENTIRE lives...then jazz doesn't quite enter into it yet for me...still has alot of catching up to do with some of these titles... First album I played until I wore it out and had my Mother buy me another copy... Followed by 3 albums my Mother turned me onto that forever changed my life...I've had multiple copies of each (LP, Cassette, CD)... and finally...two more of my own discovery that I've been listening to since I was around 10 and still jam today.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions, I took your advice at the store...I ended up buying 4 discs instead of 2. I haven't listened to any of them yet, but I'm getting ready to check out the first one now. Here's what I got... Louis Armstrong - Ambassador Satch (they didn't have the WC Handy in stock) Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon Steely Dan - Gaucho Deep Purple - Live On The BBC How is the Blue Train SACD?
-
I got stuck in meetings yesterday and couldn't escape..... So it's off to the store today....
-
Okay...after a very long time I have finally gone out and purchased an SACD player...I finally got over being sick to death of hearing Greg praise them. Anyway... So, I'm going out at lunch tomorrow for a quick SACD shopping trip. Don't have much time to browse, just need to go in a grab a couple. I'm looking for 1 jazz disc and 1 *really* good sounding classic rock disc. Thanks in advance.

The Wall is a bizarre album to be sure. That album came out when I was 9 years old...I bought it when it came out. It then was a regular part of my existence for a few years...at the time I thought it was really "deep" and meaningful to my life. But I must admit, that going back and listening to it now doesn't really elicit the same type of response. Mostly, it's Waters...he just annoys the living bejesus out of me. Animals seemed to be the turning point, that part of their career where Waters assumed "dictator" duties and it was never the same afterwards. Animals is a love-it-or-hate-it affair...I love it myself, but primarily for the songs Dogs & Sheep...which if I remember correctly, are the Gilmour numbers. Back to The Wall. Basically, the only songs on that record that still sound good to me after all these years are... Goodbye Blue Sky Young Lust Hey You Is There Anybody Out There? Comfortably Numb Run Like Hell The album is still a triumph of design...from the production itself, to the artwork, etc. But it's really a wanna-be epic..that no longer delivers on the promises whispered to teenage ears.

Northern Virginia neighborhoods? Looking to move..
Shawn replied to Shawn's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It seems like a pretty nice neighborhood...I'm off the main streets, the complex is hidden back in a neighborhood with mostly houses. The place itself has been well taken care of and is very attactive. It's also a good commute point to work because I'm about 2 miles from 66 and I'll be going against traffic, so I don't have to worry about the HOV restrictions. I timed the commute yesterday and it took about 40 minutes to get to and from work. As far as nearby places to check out, please keep making suggestions...I'd really like to learn my way around and find cool book shops and stuff like that. Maybe we can all get together for a gig sometime, shoot the breeze.... -

My apartment is located really close to Fort Meyer, right off Route 50. Close to Fairfax Drive. -

Ha Ha...pruning shears...that's one of the benefits of moving into an aparment...you don't need to OWN pruning shears! -
Pink Floyd will always be one of my favorite bands, one of my seminal musical influences. I tend to go for long periods without listening to their albums..sometimes years...but then I'll get on a huge kick and explore them all over again. When I first started becoming a fan, I focused primarily on the later material, I remember when The Wall came out, I bought it and Dark Side on the same day. As the years have passed, I now find myself more closely drawn to the earlier material. I adore Piper..fucking brilliant..but the period I like the best now is that "growing" period...that wonderful period leading up to Dark Side. Primarily Obscured By Clouds and Meddle. Of course Meddle is a classic album, but Obscured is really underrated in my opinion...some of those songs like Childhood's End are primo Floyd. It never really bothered me when Waters left...by the time that happened, I was pretty tired of his schtick...what had started as honesty had morphed into self-obsessed, overly dramatic semi-theater. Sure, the Gilmour records have dated kind of badly, mostly because of the production used...and they are a little bland...but his guitar playing still comes through and he's always been one of my favorite singers...he's so smooth...the voice and the guitar linked in a way that few artists achieve...extensions of the same voice. Lyrical cat.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I found an AWESOME apartment in Arlington, beautiful restored brick building circa 1939. Walking distance to a Metro stop and a cheap 10 minute cab ride to Georgetown. I'm EXCITED! -
Thanks for the suggestions!!! I just got off the phone with T-Mobile. I told the girl on the phone (who was SO giddy that she sounded like she was on laughing gas...she punctuated everything I said with: pppeeerrrrrffffect) about the crappy experience I had with Verizon...and that I wasn't in the best of moods. Anyway, we go through the process, I took the free phone deal described above and we get to the credit check part. I'm nervous as hell, embarrassed...I don't want to deal with that crap again...and guess what...NO DEPOSIT REQUIRED!!! NADA!!! Went through perfect with no fucking hassles. T-Mobile rocks! Verizon....I fart in your general direction.

Okay, so I go into Verizon Wireless today to buy a cell phone. I haven't had one for over a year, need one for work, etc. Anyway, the guy shows me around, I pick out a plain phone...$79. So I've got the phone, I go up to the counter and start signing up...pick a plan, etc. Guy takes all my info, copies my DL then comes out and says "A deposit is required, would you like to pay that now or spread it out over your first 3 payments?" So I ask the natural question, "How much is the deposit?" He then responds....get this....$1000! ONE THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS!!!!!!!!! Okay, my credit is a little battlescarred, I admit. But a $1000 deposit for a piece of shit cellphone and a $39.95 a month plan? COME ON!!!! Who do these righteous bastards think they are. I just rented a new apartment and HAD NO TROUBLE WITH MY CREDIT. I also hooked up electric, cable, hi-speed internet...only one that required a deposit was the electric company and that was under $100. So I'm highly pissed...I come home and decide...screw it, I'll just get a home phone. So I look in my apartment guidebook for the phone company provider for my area...guess what...yep...you were right...VERIZON!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I heard these albums years ago, but never owned them until recently. I'm too much of a novice in this genre to be critical, I can only say that both of these records blow me away. I'm in need of some recommendations for other albums by these guys, or other artists you think I should check out. Thanks in advance.

If we're going to start quoting from Rime Of The Ancient Mariner....then we should check and see if she has a copy of Iron Maiden's Powerslave album for sale...
