  1. Okay, so I go into Verizon Wireless today to buy a cell phone. I haven't had one for over a year, need one for work, etc. Anyway, the guy shows me around, I pick out a plain phone...$79. So I've got the phone, I go up to the counter and start signing up...pick a plan, etc. Guy takes all my info, copies my DL then comes out and says "A deposit is required, would you like to pay that now or spread it out over your first 3 payments?" So I ask the natural question, "How much is the deposit?" He then responds....get this....$1000! ONE THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS!!!!!!!!! Okay, my credit is a little battlescarred, I admit. But a $1000 deposit for a piece of shit cellphone and a $39.95 a month plan? COME ON!!!! Who do these righteous bastards think they are. I just rented a new apartment and HAD NO TROUBLE WITH MY CREDIT. I also hooked up electric, cable, hi-speed internet...only one that required a deposit was the electric company and that was under $100. So I'm highly pissed...I come home and decide...screw it, I'll just get a home phone. So I look in my apartment guidebook for the phone company provider for my area...guess what...yep...you were right...VERIZON!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
  2. I heard these albums years ago, but never owned them until recently. I'm too much of a novice in this genre to be critical, I can only say that both of these records blow me away. I'm in need of some recommendations for other albums by these guys, or other artists you think I should check out. Thanks in advance.
  3. Tonight is one of those nights that would be worth pulling an all-nighter for...BRILLIANT lineup on TCM this evening. The Lady From Shanghai The Big Sleep Double Indemnity The Postman Always Rings Twice Out Of The Past
  4. My faves: The "Josh Homme Family" of bands: Kyuss Desert Sessions Queens Of The Stone Age Eagles Of Death Metal The "King's X" Family of bands: King's X Platypus Poundhound The Jelly Jam Jughead Supershine Ty Tabor Jerry Gaskill
  5. Just so you guys know...you are also available on MusicNet@AOL.
  6. If we're going to start quoting from Rime Of The Ancient Mariner....then we should check and see if she has a copy of Iron Maiden's Powerslave album for sale...
  7. SCHIZOPHRENIC!!!!! Yesterday it was 65 degrees....this morning? It's snowing... MAKE UP YOUR MIND WILL YA!!!!!!!!!!
  8. My practice routine usually involves, picking up the guitar, plugging it in, turning on the amp, play for 30 minutes or so, get frustrated, turn off the amp, put the guitar back on it's stand....turn on the stereo.
  9. Thanks for posting the discography from the box. It appears that all I'm missing is Compulsion & Involution.
  10. I don't know about anyone else here....but I MISS the art of deliberate pacing....the whole fucking MTV editing thing has gotten so out of control....it just kills it for me. Most action scenes are so fast you can't even tell what the hell is going on...and when it comes to dialogue sequences...they can't keep the friggin' camera still for more than5 seconds. I miss the mood & rhythm of films like The Best Years Of Our Lives, They Drive By Night, The Killing, 2001, Five Easy Pieces, etc.
  11. Oops!!!!! Didn't know it was a different person! Yikes! SORRY!
  12. It is absolutely amazing that Morgan's Creek ever got made in the first place, considering the subject matter. Sturges played the Censorship board like a friggin' Steinway...they never knew what hit them...he was too fucking smart. I remember reading an article about Creek and they said that the movie was so fast that the censors weren't quick enough to notice. One interesting note, is that Creek was filmed in 1942...but not released until 1944. I've never read any definitive reason for why this was, although the subject matter could have played a role. Another thing. Remember the Governer of the state...and his associate? The one who dropped his cigarette in his lap, poured a glass of water on it and never missed a beat on his phone call? Those characters are "McGinty" & "The Boss" from The Great McGinty, playing cameos here.
  13. I'm REALLY glad you got to see that movie Jim, that's one of my all time favorite comedies. Talk about brilliant fucking dialogue! "One of these days their gonna find your hair ribbon in an axe somewhere" Welcome to the WONDERFUL, WACKY world of Preston Sturges! Here are the "must-see" films that Sturges wrote and/or directed: The Great McGinty The Palm Beach Story Sullivan's Travels (inspiration for Oh Brother Where Art Thou) The Lady Eve Hail The Conquering Hero Unfaithfully Yours The Good Fairy Also worth checking out, though not quite on the same level: Remember The Night Christmas In July Easy Living Diamond Jim Enjoy!
  14. Yeah, northern VA isn't exactly my first choice...but you gotta go where da work is.
  15. Jim nailed it on the head, as usual! My take? If you're a Mobley nut..you probably already own it...if you're becoming a Mobley nut...you'll kick yourself in the head if you don't get it...if you're a casual Mobley listener...you can most likely live without it... Hardbop, you won't like it. It was recorded in the 70's, there's electric piano on a couple tracks.... Damn, think I'm going to pull this one out and listen to it now.....
  16. That seems to be a normal kind of reaction when people see it. But....it's a Gibson....and blues licks sound fan-damn-tastic.
  17. This is a similar model to my current axe...although mine has the Floyd Rose locking system and the previous owner re-wired the guitar and installed active EMG pickups. It's got a real nice DEEP clean tone....and is pretty crunchy when cranked.
  18. As one of the unlucky souls who missed out on Hill Mosaic set when it was available...I've been trying to cobble together the missing pieces... But with the recent releases Passing Ships, Dance With Death...etc, I've lost track of what was never issued...and what is material contained in the box. I just want to make sure I don't duplicate material...and that I'm not missing out on stuff. Sorry for my ignorance, but I've been too busy to keep up to date with all this.... P.S. And come to think of it....I'm just as confused about the Larry Young Mosaic set...what hasn't been re-released from that?
  19. I've been working for the past 10 months, right down the road from Dulles Airport. At the moment that's an 87 mile drive - one way. I hadn't relocated because I was working on contractor status...but have recently been hired full time & promoted. So now I'm looking to move within a 20 mile radius of Dulles...and in the D.C. Metro area...that's alot of options. So, can someone in the area help me out with suggestions (I'll be renting)? I don't even know where to start....Leesburg? Reston? Herndon? Chantilly? Fairfax? Tysons Corner? Thanks!
  20. Anybody remember a show from the late 70's called Cliffhanger? I think that was the name of it anyway...it was a 3 episode series, one was a vampire story...I can't for the life of me remember anything else about it. As for series though, if we can include mini-series, I would have to put my vote towards Salem's Lot - - that flick TOTALLY creeped me out (and not just David Soul's acting)...Reggie Nalder's vampire is the best ever. Plus you can't go wrong with James Mason as the creepy antique store owner. That flick turned me into an immediate Stephen King fan overnight (although I haven't read a King book all the way through in at least 10 years now).
  21. I don't know. I've been a lifelong movie fan...and a lifelong Oscars watcher. I didn't get to see the entire show (had to get some sleep), but I enjoyed the parts I watched. Cate Blanchett looked PERFECT!
  22. Perfection. ASS KICKIN' ASS KICKIN' Part 2 REAL!!!!!! Sublime
  23. Lots of good news out of the Seahawks camp so far this offseason. From NFL.com - SEATTLE (Feb. 23, 2005) -- Tim Ruskell, assistant general manager of the Atlanta Falcons, was hired as the Seattle Seahawks' president of football operations, completing a major housecleaning of the team's front office. Ruskell also will fill the role of general manager. Man, I'm tellin' ya, when the Seahawks lost during the last drive of the game...for what seemed like the millionth time last season...because of the wide reciever curse that keeps them from catching the fucking ball...my heart sunk. How could a team with this much talent not be able to click as a unit? Then at the end of the game, the questions began to swirl. Would Holmgren leave? Would they lose the core of their offense to free agency? Etc, etc. Well, now the the front office changes have been made...and the deals are beginning. Walter Jones signed to a 7 year contract, Hasselback signed to a 6 year contract...and Shaun "give me 1 more friggin' yard" Alexander gets slapped with the Franchise tag. So, as a hopeful person...maybe the front office changes and the return of the core offensive unit will push them to the next level. I still think they need to pick up another veteran wide reciever...who can catch the ball...but it's a good start. With some more seasoning, I also believe that Darrell Jackson could evolve into a really great player. "Come on Seattle"
  24. I would have voted for Patterns myself....but it isn't on the list...
  25. I have to work tomorrow. CRAP! We got a holiday for MLK day...the trade off was having to work tomorrow. Looks like it could get a little sloppy here tonight as well: ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EST MONDAY...WV-HARDY COUNTY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN BY LATE AFTERNOON...AND MIX WITH SLEET THIS EVENING. PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE TO RAIN WITH POCKETS OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET OVERNIGHT. A TOTAL OF 1 OR 2 INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING...WHILE UP TO A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE MAY ACCUMULATE ACROSS THE COLDEST VALLEYS OVERNIGHT. FUN!!!! NOT!!!!
