I have never been a fan of country music...in fact it falls into the same category as root canals for me. But man, I make an exception when it comes to Roger Miller. This guy was just TOO friggin' hip. He's almost a country music version of Louis Jordan. On the surface, it appears to be novelty music...but underneath there's a whole wonderful world of crazy/deep meaning. Regardless, it's just plain good music and always cheers me up. Favorite Song: "My Uncle Used To Love Me But She Died"

Back to the Seahawks/Rams game for a minute. That one was a heartbreaker. Even though the Rams came back like mad in the 4th quarter, I think the Hawks have proved they are a team to be taken seriously. Going into that game, they had the top ranked defense in the NFL...and they played very strong until the Rams caught fire in the final 5 minutes. That's a young defense and they should improve. Alexander is a great running back and Hasselback looks flawless. Game killers: Dropped passes! There is no excuse for Robinson dropping that many good passes, if he had been able to hang on the score would have been even more in the Seahawks favor. Hasselback getting sacked at 2min. If Seattle had been able to make that first down, they would have run out the clock. The coin toss: That overtime could have easily had a different result if the toss had gone in their favor. Regardless, I think Seattle is a very hungry team and I have a feeling they'll bounce back from this loss with a lot of fight. Not sure if they have the power to take out the Patriots or not...but they won't let that one be an easy win. Even if they lose that one...I predict they will be in the playoffs again this year...a much more mature team than last year. Regarding the Packers game last night, that was really a sad game to watch. That's one of the worst defensive performances I've seen in quite awhile.

He was good in Remains Of The Day and I've always liked the tearjerker Somewhere In Time (mostly because I loved the Richard Matheson novel it was based on). -
I think I would have to go with Murray as well. I only discovered his work in the past couple years...but I've fallen madly in love with it.

McMaster did this one and you're wondering why you can't hear the bass? I don't think McMaster can hear the bass....

I think Shawshank is a very good film...but I don't consider it a "great" film.

I LOVE this record...agree with Jim that the followup wasn't so hot...but this sucker JAMS! My favorite cut is the song "Fred". What a fantastic groove.

Good game last night, nice to see a close one once in awhile. I was rooting for the Chiefs... however next week I will be hoping that the Ravens destroy the Redskins on ESPN Sunday Night football.

You know, I *almost* feel sorry for Joe Gibbs. Living here in the land of the Redskins fanatics (I hate the fans almost as much as the team) I had heard nothing but endless hype when Gibbs returned. Then when they won their first game...it was almost unbearable. But boy is it a different scene now. 3 straight losses have gotten it so quiet that you can hear the crickets chirping. Joe Gibbs is a legendary coach and there are some talented players on the squad...but they sure as hell don't look anything like "a team" yet.

If I remember correctly, the first item I bought was a copy of Duke Pearson - The Right Touch (US version).

Seahawks deal a shutout to 49ers, the first time that's happened to them since 1977! Seattle is 3-0....

Your great with posts...my Uncle has a barbed wire fence that he wants me to help him take down...you can come over to WV and help me out with that if you'd like! -
Oh God that's beautiful....he's better than alot of rock drummers I've seen in bar bands in my day....

The record that really turned me into a Cannonball freak was this one: Easily one of my favorite live jazz albums. Gemini is an AMAZING track.

Happy birthday Cannonball! In celebration of his birthday I thought he deserved his own corner here on the board. I'm starting my day by listening to a couple of his live sextet recordings, the incredible lineup with Lateef on board. Let's hear it for Julian!!!

I was fortunate enough to see The Doobie Brothers twice. The first time was pre-McDonald (and I was barely old enough to remember the show), the second time he was onboard and it was a fantastic concert. The main things I remember about that gig were his voice...how long the guitarists hair was...and that they did Black Water as the encore which was my favorite song to sing when I was 4 years old (I was about 8 at this concert). The other interesting sidenote...the opening act was UFO! I've never really been a fan of his music since he left the Doobies, I totally admire & love his voice....but his solo material has never really done it for me. But I've got no complaints with him as an artist. He did some good backing vocal stuff with Steely Dan as well....

I was listening to WPFW (public jazz radio station in D.C.) a week or so ago and they were playing some live Charlie Parker. Although I couldn't really hear above the traffic noise...I think the announcer said is was with the Kenton orchestra from either 53 or 54? They played a couple tracks, there was a killer version of My Funny Valentine. Anybody familiar with this? If so, is it available on CD anywhere? *forgive me if I heard this totally wrong*

Of course, as is always the case...you can't rely on Week One to give predictions for the entire season. The teams that look strong can easily falter or get handicapped by injuries...the teams that appear weak now can buckle down and kick major ass down the road a piece... That's what makes it an interesting game.
