One of my favorites as a kid was the Carol Burnett Show. I watched a marathon of that this past winter and was happily surprised that it has held up pretty well over the years. Of course...improvisation doesn't date.

I watched a little bit of this with my Grandmother this weekend, I had never seen the show before. One of the episodes had Tim Conway and was a scream. This show will be on at 5pm weekdays now.

Evil Dead II is one of the funniest movies ever...highly recommended.

The usher in the theater was Bruce Campbell...who was the star of Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy, he shows up in most of Raimi's other films as well. Also, the car that belonged to Peter Parker's uncle in the first film (seen in part 2 as well) is the same make/model as the one used as the primary car in the Evil Dead trilogy...and Raimi makes sure that it has at least a cameo appearance in all his other movies.

LOVE Archie Shepp! He was one of the first "avante-garde" musicians that I really got into heavily (this was prior to my becoming a fan of Ornette, late period Trane, etc.) At the time I think what connected me to his playing was the tone. I loved the whole Ben Webster meets gutbucket aspect of his sound, that helped give me an immediate appreciation of what he was doing, even before I had really digested his conception. Then his writing & arranging skills began to sink in and I've been hooked ever since. Spidey brought in a whopping 180 million dollars in its first 6 days of release, breaking all previous records. I saw it on Friday afternoon and I must say that it's worth all the hype and then some! One of the most enjoyable films I've seen in quite awhile. Easily superior to the first film (which I also liked), this movie delivers on all the things that summer movies should. Characters...instead of caricatures. Special Effects that were good enough for me to not even think about them. (that's rare) Good performances all around, special kudos to Molina for playing a sympathetic villain. The real star of the show however is director Sam Raimi. Completely on top of his game, he does a magnificent job of balancing the human elements of the story and making them equally as important as the actions. Plus, he cuts loose a little more this time, there's more of the dark humor & wacky camera work of the Evil Dead films on display. The scene where Doc Ock escapes from the hospital is a scream! Look closely for the dumb redneck guy from Evil Dead 2 on the elevated train....

Actually alot of the performances weren't even filmed. They checked in advance to see what bands would give them rights to film their sets, the ones that agreed are in the movie.

I'm living in a "house" that was at one time or another in the past a real estate office, a welding shop & then a bakery. There are numerous 220 outlets that I'm not using, but the key I think is that the wiring in the building was totally redone about 7 years ago. I've noticed that my stereo sounds better now than it ever has before...and it has to be the improved wiring.

Definitely correct about the horrible jazz sections at many major retail outlets. I was spoiled by the years of living in cities where it was relatively easy to find record stores with great jazz selections. Now that I'm back in a rural area again, the only type of stores that are within easy driving distance are of the usual Target/Wal-Mart/Mall variety. Sometimes, you can find a handful of decent discs (of course they are ones that you almost always invariably own) hiding amongst a plethora of garbage resembling this guy's list. I really feel sorry for the people that might be just getting an interest in jazz and end up buying this kind of crapola.

My Grandmother is an avid bird-nut. She has feeders of all various sized scattered around the yard. By far the coolest thing though are the Hummingbird feeders she has on the back porch. There are usually at least 10 Hummingbirds at a time that hang out during the day. You can sit there and watch them for hours, they aren't afraid of people. Those suckers are crazy, they zoom around like little dive bombers...they'll also fly loops around your head now and again! The only thing that freaked me out about them at first is that they sound like HUGE bees ...so I was always looking around for that really big wasp I was sure was coming to get me...
