  1. Yes, very famous story about the MOFI Beatles. Something like this: the owner kept saying turn up the treble as the engineer did so against his better judgement. I'm really of no help because I just(within last 2 months) sold my super mint MOFI Beatles LP's. The Japanese mono set goes for $1000-2000 or so, doesn't it?
  2. The belt may be rubbing against something other than the pulley and platter. Or, the belt is riding up and down the pulley because it's too loose. Pulley/motor screws can tilt the pulley a bit so it(the belt) rides correctly on pulley. Is the tt on a firm foundation and levelled?
  3. My turntable wall shelf frame looks a lot like this one. My actual shelf is a light, but very strong laminate job. Properly fastened to the studs and levelled they make a great home for turntables.
  4. What do you have?
  5. My solution worked out pretty well. I sold them and bought LP's.
  6. Sippin' on the last of a nice bottle of scotch and listening to: Champion Jack Dupree: Blues From The Gutter...nice mono original on Atlantic I found sealed a few years ago. More of the Tristano, Konitz and Marsh Mosaic. Usually after playing a Mosaic set once through I rotate to another set. This is my 3rd time through this one.
  7. Are there any small screws near the pulley? Maybe the belt is riding in the wrong spot. Brand?

No. Recorded 5 months later, with an even worse cover. Joe Gordan and Kamuca instead of Condoli and Geller.
  9. Pre-amp tape out to the CDR analog in. Are the tt leads going to correct phono input if you have moving magnet and moving coil inputs on the pre-amp?
  10. Very good magazine. Still waiting on the Lennon issue.
  11. Jazzbo's unit sounds very nice. My Denon CDR-W 1500 is still going strong(bought used for $150!) It's the only CD recorder I have experience with. Very easy to use with good sound. You do need use 'audio' or 'music' blanks, but at 30 cents each it did not matter to me.
  12. Good comments and questions. The luxury/curse of being able to upgrade titles like this sounds confusing until you get it figured out. Is their a decent consistancy to the sonic signature of the BN titles in their various forms? Are you guys able to predict or have a good idea of what they are going to sound like? Is there an individual engineer in Japan doing the TOJC's? I know if I was more into BN digital titles I'd want to find the reissues I liked best, fast.
  13. I've always wished I could pull off dressing like Jimi. Why does he look cool, and I look like an idiot?
  14. I don't think Shirley Scott played much bass at all. At least not on the the records I have.
  15. Turrentine: Chip Off The Old Block (very nice slab of original vinyl-cover in shrink) Stanley sounding BIG and beautiful at the same time. Zappa: Strictly Commercial (greatest hits double LP from a few years ago) Mabern: Don't Know Why (Venus)
  16. My advice, get off the internet and practice, practice, practice, so we can come see you play before us even 30's croak.
  17. Tina Brooks: True Blue Milt Jackson: Invitation (Riverside) -from Fantasy twofer.
  18. Great!! What's next? The Complete Herbie Hancock Blue Note Sixties Sessions? Seriously, I guess this the last of the vinyl, unless there is another Miles set somewhere.

Heavy Soul sounds sweet on my original vinyl(though it's my least favorite of Quebec's BN's). I'll definitely wait for a Liberty vinyl Johnny C. I'll wait on Classic's vinyl True Blue as an upgrade to my other reissues.
  20. Naaah B-) But it would be nice to think so. Hard to beat deep-grooves and early pressings (if they are in decent shape-that's the hard part). Once beyond that range, however, it's certainly possible for some reissues to offer a very decent alternative. The Classic Records True Blue will be coming out one of these days. It should better my Mosaic and CONN, I hope.
  21. I'll say!! True Blue still sealed in 1980! Fuck me!! How about a scan of the label?? Oh, I've used a touch of Lysol mold remover on LP scum to good effect. Rinse well.

Spring Royal Flush Feelin' The Spirit Maiden Voyage My Point Of View Empyrean Isles Inventions & Dimensions Takin' Off Damn, that's an amazing lineup. I couldn't live without Feelin' The Spirit, Royal Flush, Maiden Voyage and Empyrean Isles, but the others are not far behind IMHO.
  23. I thought of the Turner's, also. Joe Turner with The Trumpet Kings is also jam-like, but I do not think I'd recommend it. Turner's Life Ain't Easy is a good one. The Trumpet Summit(Hubbard/Terry/Gillespie) is a decent jam in the Verve tradition. I'd recommend it for a couple tunes. Kick the front door in!

Marketing's way of attracting "newbies". I think this is smart. Available at Starbuck's, if you can find one. I may get Basra, as I passed on it too many times when the vinyl was affordable.
  25. There are the 3 Basie Jams. Other than that, I do not know of any others except the Montreux '77 jams.
