  1. Whenever 3 or 4 of 'em gang tackle me and won't let me up, I opt for the peanut butter.
  2. Yes, the pictures are orignals from 'that' site. The covers on my reissues look much, much better! The sound on my Toshiba/EMI reissues is good, maybe not great. Haven't compared them to other issues I may have on CD or LP. I listen to them a lot. I would not if the sound was poor. The packaging is so cool!! I love fondling these things. Standard, HQ Japanese product.
  3. Stitt Blows The Blues( (Verve/Classic Records reissue) Rouse: YEAH! (Epic/Classic Records reissue) Killer!! Pee Wee Russell: Ask Me Now! (Impulse) Silver: Silver's Blue (Epic original)
  4. I'd be interested in knowing how many hours they say you'll get on the 300B. 10,000 hours?
  5. I've always left solid state gear on. I never leave tube gear on. For one, I've worked on some of the stuff myself, and would like to be around if something starts smoking. Some of the tubes I use are expensive(from the 50's and 60's) and will last my lifetime, but not if left on 24/7. Heat and power usage are more reasons I do not leave tube gear on. I had a pre-amp and mono blocks that had a total of 18 tubes a goin' and was very inefficient power wise. After 4 or 5 hours it was like a sauna.
  6. Ben and Sweets: Wanted To Do One Together..Sweet sounding Columbia/Classic Records reissue Mulligan and Desmond: Blues In Time (Verve/MFSL) Cecil Taylor: Looking Ahead...Original mono on Contemporary Dylan: Good As I Been To You And a couple Japanese 10 inchers...
  7. Any initials in the dead wax? Are the reissues vinyl or cd? From what year/s? Could be a analog vs digital issue. The remastering could have been done on cheaper/different equipment. Not much help, I know.
  8. Knowing you, as little as I do, I can picture you hearing a great but expensive table and wanting it. With your stereo and enjoyment/appreciation of good sound I can see you going for one of the bigger boys at around $4-5K. When I hear a truly superior tt, it takes few weeks for mine to start sounding good again. Audio Note makes a couple suspended tables from about $1000 and up depending on arm/cartridge.
  9. Here is my deep analysis/opinion of the cover: It looks goofy. I much prefer the shot on the back of the LP, Alternate Takes. Sonny is standing with one foot on a cow scull, hat across his heart, with the sax swinging down below. Cool shot. Probably, one of the first ten jazz LP's I bought. It seems like it's pretty close to a one of a kind LP for this period, 1957. Very different and unique. It's also very catchy. I often find myself humming the tunes all day long.
  10. Heard good things. What tables do your local shops carry?
  11. I'd guess about $1500-2000, maybe a bit more, could get you something real nice to match your system. Since you still play a lot of cd's, going all out may not look that good to you. Does your phono stage do low output moving coils? It should say something about cartridge output. You will have to choose between moving magnet and moving coil cartridge. I've had an LP12 for years also. Tricked out new ones are way above 2K, so I think their value per dollar is not that great in todays market. You'll have to choose between suspended and non-suspended table. I want to get a nice non-suspended table next. I beleive many available tables are non-suspended these days. Teres comes to mind whenever I lust after a new tt.
  12. If I may chime in... I think the ballads he's referring to would be from the 70's-80's period. Try Ballad Of The Sad Young Men and My Laurie from No Limit Over The Rainbow from Ballads By Four Any of the ballads from the Village Vanguard dates. Patricia from Today I do not know about the rest of the description and assumed knowingness on why he played this way, but gut-wrenching applies IMO.
  13. Working my way through another Mosaic set. This time it's the Parlan set and I just played the Happy Frame Of Mind LP. Mulligan Meets Webster (Verve/MFSL) Ammons: Funky (OJC)
  14. Jazz Kid, get off this site and get a girl. There should be plenty in New York. If he is 15, can we get into trouble communicating with him?
  15. We should be able to find out what the first title recorded/released after the takeovere(June 30, 1966?) was.
  16. Interesting question. Just going numerically, I'd guess 84118 (Free Form Donald Byrd). AFAIK it was not released until Liberty took over.

    Larry Young

Yep! I'm sure Mr. Dorward forgot to add, "Your mileage may vary." Unless he considers his opinion fact. I love Mosaics and would take the set over individual CD's any day. Well, maybe not for $500. I have the Mosaic LP set and do not miss the cover art of the CD's. .LMAO. I do not consider CD's to have cover art. You will enjoy the large session photos in the Mosaic booklet much more, I think. $140 is a steal... Whatever you do, enjoy Larry Young. YMMV
  18. Another great evening of listening to Blue Note's. Re-tubed my pre-amp and it's sounding nice. McLean: One Step Beyond Don Wilkerson: Elder Don John Patton: Along Came John Kenny Dorham: Una Mas Turrentine: Never let Me Go
  19. Is Bert Sugar an analyst on the program?
  20. I agree with this. Silver's vote for most lyrical tenor shows why.
  21. On vinyl? I'd say yes. I do not think it is in print. Good luck finding it in a used shop. Try eBay if you want it quick.
  22. Just because an album is sleepy or mellow does not make it weak. It makes it not to your liking. Do you have to have fireworks all the time?
  23. This precisely how I do it.
  24. It's a nice mellow, laid back album. It's on my late evening shelf.
  25. I know, but was curious about the book.
