  3. Carelessness and theft at radio stations.
  4. "Big" John Patton Along Came John (Toshiba/EMI) The Way I Feel (original stereo) Got A Good Thing Goin' (original mono) and Lee Morgan: Live At The Lighthouse..Always a pleasure to listen to this original double LP. I love the recording/mastering. Huge, seemless, accurate sound. I feel like I'm about 3 tables from the stand. If you want an audiophile LP that actually is one, give it a try. Other recordings sound sick after listening to this one.
  5. Make an offer???? How about you put a price on them.
  6. Yes, he stinks. The only time I thought he was okay was in "Leaving Minnesota".
  7. If the RVG CD of Boss Horn sounds anything like the RVG original vinyl you guys are in for a huge treat!!!! Very, very well done!!!
  8. I have zero Lonnie Smith and I have no idea if I'd like it. I have enough Jimmy Smith, so I'll pass on his title also. That leaves Tyner and Oblique which are behind the others I will get.
  9. Nice list!! Do not see myself upgrading many of these. I'm very happy with: Donald Byrd – Fuego..Japanese vinyl Don Cherry – Symphony For Improvisers..Mosaic vinyl Herbie Hancock - Inventions And Dimensions..original vinyl Blue Mitchell – Boss Horn...original vinyl Andrew Hill – Judgment..original vinyl Freddie Redd – Music From The Connection..reissue vinyl is ok and not a favorite album of mine. Probably get the following at some point: Grant Green - Sunday Morning McCoy Tyner – Time For Tyner Art Blakey - The Big Beat
  10. No details, but I beleive Venus did some reissues that are long OOP. Some very nice LP's here!!
  11. You might be better off picking up a $99 turntable and the used vinyl at $2 a pop.
  12. Hope this site aids in your exploration of jazz. You have some very interesting interests. Indian flute, for one. Be nice, everyone. Chandra mentions a fondness for the one who's name we will not mention.
  13. Nice, cozy space, spinlps. I see the VPI RC and what's your tt?
  14. Art Pepper: Plus Eleven (Contemporary/OJC) this OJC sounds great, but I'd like to hear a mint original. Mobley: Roll Call Henderson: Page One...Excellent LP And a few BN's in that format that will go unmentioned.
  15. Still no first hand experience with the sound of Scorpio BN reissues, as I've stayed away due to the unanimous dislike by others. From a source or two I trust, their source is crappy digital tape and in some cases CD's.
  16. I think, anyone can try a ww resistor to reduce the treble. It's easy if you have two sets of binding posts. Just put it across the tweater posts. If not, pull out the tweater and put it across the +/- terminals. 10 watt, but I forget how many ohms. To the original poster..... What titles do you have? On CD? On vinyl? Also, how do you know Blue Notes have imaging and a soundstage in any format/issue, be it original vinyl or 24 bit CD's from original tapes? Here are my recommendations sound-wise for a few. Larry Young: Mothership (CONN/McMaster) Jimmy Smith: Prayer Meetin' (RVG) A lower octave of room rumbling bass from the B3 that's absent from the original vinyl, or my tt set-up does not track it. Amazing!! Andrew Hill: Dance with Death (CONN/McMaster) Sam Rivers: Fuchia Swing Song (CONN/McMaster) RVG high frequencies without the smear. Very Nice.
  17. Yes, in my favorites. Still need to get some of those James Brown titles.
  18. Good luck finding these qualities on any RVG or McMaster. How many originals do you have? What are you comparing the sound of the CD's to? Try a couple Classic Records mono vinyl titles for an eye opener.
  19. Red Rodney: 1957 (Classic Recoeds test pressing) Sonny Rollins: Now's The Time (RCA/ Classic Records) Hawkins/Terry: Back In Bean's Bag (Columbia/Classic Records)
  20. For me, it's Verve then Blue Note. I could possibly live without other labels, but not these two.
  21. Funny, but somewhat stupid thread. Most of my black friends (past and present) can't stand jazz and would never consider it their music in any shape or form, even if they were into it . They'd be insulted if you assumed they had a special insight due to their race. If this was 1930 or 1940 it might be a bit different. I'm pretty sure the only thing that matters is, "Can the guy play?"
  22. I think it was 9/19/94 when I got the Chaloff LP set for $65 plus $5 shipping. The Brooks and Mingus CBS sets soon after.
  23. I'll trade "All that's Good" for Elder Don or Unit Structures.
  24. If I had to give you one BN from my collection, I'd give you Frederick Roach's "All That's Good".
