  1. This makes sense if JVC is licensing the titles from Fantasy/Concord, as Analogue Productions did for their SACD series and is doing for their vinyl series.
  2. Thanks, Mark!!
  3. Yep!! Great reissue. Keep an eye out for Hoffman's recent reissue(S&P Records) of a Nat Cole LP. Promises to be great. Listening to Bob Marley: Natty Rebel (Get Back)
  4. Probably a scam. Contact Ebay.
  5. I was in a motel lobby when one one those guys that sets up at freeway off-ramps came in. He pulled out a nice wad of cash and paid for his room. The clerk said he'd been staying there for a month and made about $200 a day.

Horace Silver comes to mind. Definitive has issued some of his BN recordings. As I've mentioned in other threads, the general public will buy what's on the shelves at the cheapest price possible. Public domain reissues are an unknown to most people.
  7. Sam Rivers: Contours Hutcherson: Happenings Sinatra: September of My Years (most excellent recent reissue)
  8. What, no uppercase? I lack the vocabulary/writing skills to do this well, but since I've been listening to my budget busting Mosaic set I feel obligated to give it a shot. Love and Peace: Larger group with 2 drummers, which is very interesting at times. Lots going on, very 'busy' music. Very good free improv. Mothership: Quartet. Funkier, but with many moments of freedom. Much mellower with a sparseness I enjoy. Top notch tension and release at times. I love the sounds he creates on his organ on this one. Very unique and hypnotic. Meanders or looses some direction on a few songs. All in all, OLAP is probably a better album in absolute terms, but I like Mothership more, as it fits my tastes. I'll keep my day job.
  9. There is a 'Delete' tab that comes in handy. Listening to Larry Young's Mother Ship on which Lee contributes.
  10. What did Bennett do between 65 and 68 besides buy Blue Note?

Hmmmm. That's the big question, isn't it? I'm holding a copy of Fats Navarro: Fats Blows(Past Perfect Records) I bought at Tower USA. Made in Germany, containig the recordings from his Blue Note albums 5004 and 1532. No mention of 'Licenced From". No mention of Blue Note anywhere. Had it been licensed from Blue Note , hell, they could have reprinted the original album cover/liner notes. The recordings are public domain in EU. No royalties were paid. It was illegally sold in the USA. Is there any proof that Proper pays royalties when they sell their titles in the USA? Does Proper pay royalties/licensing fees, period? The whole point is that they do not.

I agree with Clementine, at least the parts I understand( South Brooklynese is not my native language). Keeping it simple, what are the consequences of the entire Blue Note and Prestige 50's catalogs being reissued by public domain labels in the next six years? At this point, I'm very interested in what the heads at Blue Note and Concord think of the medium to long term consequences.

How are these Proper boxes being sold in the USA? Is the material 75 years old? Did they license the recordings? Is it public domain for some other reason?
  14. Sal Nistico - Neo Nistico Lp (Bee Hive) Ronnie Matthews - Roots Branches & Dances Lp (Bee Hive) Freebies from Columbia House: B Holiday: Collection Vol. 3 B Holiday: Collection Vol. 4 Roy Haynes: Love Letter (Eighty Eight's) Trane: Giant Steps
  15. My copy of Henderson/Our Thing is Lib one side and NY USA the other. Seems like I have another, but can't recall at moment. Let's say scarce. You are right, they are not common. They may be more common than a mint original Our Thing, though. I see them listed on Ebay from time to time.
  16. Yep, fairly common. I have one or two and have see/heard of more. Mono's of this title are indeed a bit rare.
  17. "She heard her pig squealing around 11 p.m. Gives new meaning to the phrase, "Squealed like a stuck pig."
  18. The above are different from the Time Life Big Bands series that contains a few of the same artists, in 2 LP sets. The above seem more complete with better booklets. Why is Chris Albertson in bold?
  19. The boys in Angola don't take kindly to pig ......(deleted).
  20. The Toshiba 3950/60 DVD players are another option. I do not have one, but have heard good things about it. Use it as CD player. Or get two as they are about $70 each. If you are handy with a soldering iron, there are many mods(ggogle) that apparantly make this sucker sing. Here is one of the postive reviews: Forget the video capabilities. Haven't even tried to watch a viddy on this thing. Been too busy listening to cd's. There is a web buzz on this thing being an incredible bargain as far as it's sound on cd's. The buzz is right and no one will believe how good it sounds unless they plunk down their cash and take one home and plug it in. I am dumbfounded. How in the hell did Toshiba make this little silver box produce the sound it does. Jazz, female vocals, piano, rock-n-roll, metal all sound great on the 3950. I have a $10,000 digital front end to compare this to and I'm not selling either one but the only place this little $70 box falls short is on the most intricate details. You don't get to hear all the way into the music but you get incredibly close. This thing sings right out of the box. I have been playing it all day and am just stunned Longevity may be an issue after reading a few of the 40 reviews. Toshiba
  21. MacLean said all his software does is simply record music off the analog XM signal. "It's exactly the same as running it off a cassette recorder," he said. MacLean speculated that XM was pressured by the recording industry. Sheesh!! Time to back to over the air radio.
  22. What a great into to jazz. A Hodges LP may have been mine. Just got this LP a few weeks ago(Thanks Dmitry). It's a keeper and holds it's own with the other Ellingtonia titles I have. Gonsalves sure was an interesting player.
  23. Man charged in farmyard romp with pig Thu Sep 2, 5:26 PM ET (Court TV) — Austin Gullette denies the crime, but police in Ouachita, La., say they have the right man. They've charged Gullete with having sex with his sister's pig. According to Major Royce Toney, with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Gullette's sister caught the 45-year-old man in the act Aug. 30. "She heard her pig squealing around 11 p.m. and went out to investigate," Toney said. The woman reportedly observed her brother engaging in intercourse with her Vietnamese potbelly pig, P-Pie. When she confronted Gullette, he fled into the woods, she said. Deputies caught and arrested Gullette who denied the incident. Toney said the eyewitness account and physical evidence found on Gullete prompted the arrest. Gullete has been charged with committing a crime against nature and is being held without bond at the Ouachita Correctional Center. He faces a fine of up to $2000 and five years in jail with or without hard labor. P-Pie is under observation at a local veterinarian.
  24. I like it, along with the Aretha title I have. The Redding has very good mono sound. Both have great vinyl and packaging. I plan on getting more Aretha titles. I've hestated in getting their jazz titles, as I they might not be my cup of tea. Don't forget Sundazed for more Redding titles. I have all but one and like them. I may get Eddie Gale's Ghetto Music just for the 11" x 22" poster.
  25. Seems like they would accept return to keep customer happy, but their policy is SOP in many cases. Do they offer refunds for other reasons? You may need to find a vendor that gaurantees satisfaction without qualifiers.
