Take the A Train and Happy-Go-Lucky-Local are my favs from this OJC Another vote for his Impulse date, Tell It The Way It Is . I like 2 or 3 numbers and it's a nice small group session. Any comments on one titled(I think), The Pittsburg Pirate Meets The Mexican Bandit. I never played it much, so I sold it. Seems like there was another take on Body and Soul that was very good.

Glad it worked out for you. That's a highly sought after LP. I don't think I have any early Pepper originals, but I can imagine how good it must sound, as I have originals of lesser titles. All you need now is Rollins' Way Out West.

Pulled out a nice ARS(vinyl) set I put together a few years ago. Cherry picked a guys collection for nice and unplayed titles. Went through about 25 and kept 6 that had decent vinyl. RVG did stellar job mastering, but the vinyl can be noisy. Roy Eldridge and Benny Carter: The Urbane Jazz of ARS 413 Mulligan Quartet and Wilson Trio at Newport ARS 434 The Flying Fingers of Art Tatum and Buddy De Franco ARS 412 Basie...Swingin' at Newport ARS 435

Larry Young Mosaic LP Set Charlie Parker The Complete Savoy Studio Sessions Five LP Set Savoy 5500

The Larry Young, hmmmmm. Yes, I bid. I forget if $255 is an ok price to pay(I really need to keep a log), but too late now. I just wish I had some Young vinyl to sell off to pay for this set. Oh well, it's one of about 8 sets I really want. Still kicking myself for missing that Buy It Now Rivers set from a few weeks ago. The Live Basie went at a good price, I think.

Is your copy an original? Are you sure the flaw came from damaged tape? I've heard occasional bad distortion/break-up caused by poor mastering on originals. AFAIK that LP was mastered from the stereo tapes(no mono tape was made). I'd love to hear a burn of your noise reduced copy. PM me if it's a possibility. Thanks

I played this the other night. I have the direct to disc(EW 10005). It's one of the few audiphile records from the seventies I've kept. I think it's pretty lame musically(IMO), but if you never got to hear Tony Williams live and close-up this is the ticket. I have 2 others in the DtoD EW series and while the sound is amazing the music does not do much for me.

Never heard this. Can you give some details? CLARK TERRY Duke with a Difference OJCCD-229-2 (Riverside 1108) ~ $11.98 (CASS ~ OJC-229-4 ~ $7.98) (LP ~ OJC-229 ~ $9.98) Clark Terry's series of late-Fifties Riverside albums covered a very wide range (on one he shared honors with a tuba player; another featured Thelonious Monk), but Duke with a Difference may have been the most unusual. On this occasion he gathered together a number of major artists--notably including Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, and Billy Strayhorn--who had been his colleagues for years in the Ellington orchestra, and enabled them to fulfill a mutual fantasy by performing a repertoire of some of the Duke's distinguished standards (among them "Mood Indigo," "Take the 'A' Train," and "C Jam Blues") in a deliberately non-Ellington vein. C-Jam Blues, In a Sentimental Mood, Cotton Tail, Just Squeeze Me (But Don't Tease Me), Mood Indigo, Take the "A" Train, In a Mellow Tone, Come Sunday with Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Britt Woodman, Quentin Jackson, Billy Strayhorn, Tyree Glenn, Jimmy Woode, Sam Woodyard

Shelly Manne: 2 3 4 Alto Analogue(Germany) re-issue of Impulse A-20 ($25 at Red Trumpet) I do love Shelly Manne's drumming, but this is a spotty, half-baked LP. Playing is way to loose. Pretty much jamming their way through the songs. Thank god Coleman Hawkins is on a couple songs. Should have gotten the Blue Mitchell or Gene Ammon's titles.

I've heard/read this being debated for years. Until running into the above mentioned set, I had been listening to her late Verve titles like; Body and Soul, Songs For Distingue Lovers, Stay With Me and All Or Nothing At All for years, exclusively. They get a ton of play for the reasons you all mention. I see them as being beautiful in a haunting, heavier way. The Decca sides, IMO are lighter, more joyful and her voice is lovely in absolute terms. I still feel a ton of emotion in these songs. My goosebumps and tears prove it. If I was trying to get a jazz newbie interested in Holiday I would give them a burn of the Decca sides I mentioned in my first post. I forgot to mention I also have a 3 LP Columbia set called "The Golden Years Vol. 2", that I've listened to a few times recently. For me, this set suffers because of the sound(dubbed from 78's ?). But that's just me. Classic Lester and Webster and others on this makes it very nice, though. It's just not as intimate and life like as the others I've mentioned.

$2-3 is about right. I know if I wanted a title and it was in great shape, $3 would be fine. I might even pay that for a double, if it looked nice or better than my copy. I would not pay that price if it was a title I wasn't sure of. I'm assuming these are common/good selling titles. Hopefully, you set aside any that may be collectable. I know I sold about 150 on Audiogon for that price, fairly quickly. I have not sold via a garage sale before and it's been a while since I've found a garage sale that had LP's I wanted. Lastly, are you very sure you want to liquidate these? More than one person I know has regretted the fact they sold their vinyl. Good luck.

I figure my obit will include the fact that I was also 'survived by' my Mosaics.

This is probably very old news to most of you. I have a bit of the later Holiday on Verve and I like lt, but the following is in a completely different universe. The other day I came into the possession of "The Billie Holiday Story" on vinyl. A 2 lp re-issue of Decca DXSB7-161. I'd imagine it's on CD. Songs are: 1. Them There Eyes 2. Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?) 3. Easy Living 4. Baby Get Lost 5. You're My Thrill 6. There Is No Greater Love 7. That Ole Devil Called Love 8. I'll Look Around 9. Gimme A Pig Foot And A Bottle Of Beer 10. My Man (Mon Homme) 11. Don't Explain 12. Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do 13. Deep Song 14. Crazy He Calls Me 15. Keeps On Rainin' 16. No More In Your Duty 17. Now Or Never 18. Good Morning Heartache 19. Somebody On My Mind 20. Porgy 21. Solitude 22. This Is Heaven To Me 23. God Bless The Child It's a no brainer of a recommendation if you like Billie Holiday and you probably already have it. It's incredibly high quality stuff. A lot like an Ella songbook production wise, but was done about 15 years earlier. Once this music starts I end up listening to the entire thing.

I hope it's good, but I've seen many trailers that were better than the movie. Jack-on What ever happened to the Chet Baker movie? Jack-off

The PD labels do not think it's worthless, but then again they have not paid anything for the material or have not been it's caretaker for 50 years. That took money. I am the one that keeps using the word 'worthless'. Maybe I should say, 'no longer viable'. For starters, you go broke that way. I'm afraid, not much is free. Someone has to pay for it. Someone has got to be resposible for it. By society, do you mean us? In what form? I am as idealistic as anyone here and I see jazz as an artform, but it would/will cost lots of money to care for the art. To think that the PD labels are doing anyone a favor or helping the art is short sighted. They are taking zero responsibility for the care of the art or the artist. Sure, it would be great if 'society' took care of the art, but society is made up of individuals who will have to "pay' for the care.

Let's see how crazy this gets. I wonder if we'll be bidding against each other. May the craziest man win!! Vinyl Mosaics More vinyl Mosaics What would be a good price for the Young?
-
Sorry, but I can't get very specific. Check into some of the larger Infinity models. Is the Kappa line still in production? The model I heard was very affordable and handled rock like champ. Obviously, look for something bigger than the Kestral's 6" midrange/woofer.
-
Besides that, what is this statement implying? Music and it's distribution should not be a commercial enterprise? What is cultural heritage? Is Miles Davis' KOB cultural heritage? I'm drowning here.

I've bought and sold a few things on Audiogon, but not speakers. Never a problem. Too bad you are looking for an integrated, as I have a 60 WPC tube amp for sale. I guess it would be good if you found a local seller on Audiogon/Ebay for the Kestrels. You could go check them out before you bought 'em. Get a feel for the seller by asking lots of questions. I've heard them a couple times at a friend's house. I liked them for jazz, vocals and most lighter music, especially. Clean, realistic and musical. They may have trouble keeping up with harder rock and big classical stuff. They are a nice sized and good looking speaker. They do not require much power.

From searching this site for this issue I noticed plenty of disagreement. Help me out here. How could this work, or how would it have been working if, for example, Blue Note Records was located in France rather than the USA?
-
Good points, but what is to stop an EU Emusic company from doing the same thing? Boundaries mean little regarding this issue, both for sale of hard copies and E copies.

Also, some very decent blues title are being released by Analog Productions.

How much should I bid to give myself a chance of winning? Young LP set
