  1. I very much like my stand alone audio component CDR (Denon W1500). I'm a computer idiot, so this has worked well for me. I have much of my vinyl collection on CD for car use. From my tube phono stage the signal goes straight to the Denon. I love the quality, but I've not done a ton of comparisons. I've had more than a few comments from friends that my copies sound great. Back to Shrdlu's post. Sure I've thought of it. If I lived in Europe I'd be giving it more thought, due to the shorter time for recordings to reach public domain. For example, I have no doubt I could do an excellent job on many Mosaic LP sets and mint Blue Notes that I have. Chances are they would sound as good as what's being put out now by the PD labels.
  2. I have some free CD's to use up at Columbia House. Are these the discs you mention? They have the other 3 availble, too. Billie Holiday Collection Vol. 4 1. Man I Love, The 2. Ghost Of Yesterday 3. Body And Soul 4. Falling In Love Again 5. St. Louis Blues 6. Loveless Love 7. Let's Do It 8. Georgia On My Mind 9. All Of Me 10. God Bless The Child 11. Am I Blue? 12. Solitude 13. I Cover The Waterfront 14. Love Me Or Leave Me 15. Gloomy Sunday 16. Until The Real Thing Comes Along 17. Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me 18. I Love My Man (Billie's Blues
  3. Mainly, I just like to know what I'm getting. I like the digital mastered sets I have(let's hope it holds true with my incoming Larry Young set) and will keep buying them. The only one I've compared is the Desmond/Hall and I kept the LP.
  4. If "transfers done by" means digital, then MR5-102 - Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker Pacific Jazz & Capitol is one, too.
  5. I think Classic did do True Blue. I had it in my wish list at Acoustic Sounds until it sold about 2 months ago. I remember putting off buying it because I had the Mosaic and the 94 Blue Note. As always, I could be wrong.
  6. How do they compare Wolff? (I've got the Mosaic but not the Classic). I think the Classic would be much closer to the original's sound. Like you mentioned regarding the Reece, the Classic has a punchier, more full bodied sound. The sound of the horns are definitely closer to the big, somewhat forward sound you get with originals. The Mosaic seems smoother and possibly easier on the ears as the Classic's highs and upper mid-range, on this title, are a bit raw like some originals. The music is more involving with the Classic. YMMV
  7. Yes, it's all your fault. Thanks again for doing the research. I knew it was in the catalogues, but was too lazy to dig them out. I had forgotten it was so many.
  8. Join the club. At least you have the CD sets to sell. Good luck on the journey.
  9. Can't really help, other than to say the Richard Grey will run cooler than the PS Audio. Something to keep in mind for your summers.
  10. Thanks for heads-up. I have 5 or 6 Classic Records Blue Note reissues and think they are very good. In listening to their Parlan title recently, I noticed many things they seemed to get right.
  11. I am pretty sure some full and partial sets are from digital source. My Mosaic catalogs are buried away and they listed which were analog and digital. You may want to contact Mosaic to get accurate info.
  12. Monk: Monk's Music (Gateway reissue) Horace Parlan: On The Spur Of The Moment(Both Classic and Mosaic reissue) Monk: The Man I Love (Black Lion) Ornette Coleman: Body Meta (Artist House) Johnny Griffin: Introducing (Classic Records) Mingus: Mosaic Candid set
  13. Thanks for going to the trouble. I'll see if I can get a couple of these.
  14. I'll sell you my McLean LP set for $150. Kidding, of course. Enjoy your recent acquisition.
  15. Interesting thread. Why no mention of Black Lion/Vogue? Just heard some for the first time and really like it. What is the Davis Prestige date being referred to? Modern Jazz Giants? I really can't choose between the output of one labal over another. I have a little from each label. If I had to choose, I would go with the Riverside output. Followed closely by the Blue Note titles. I still think in terms of individual albums, not box sets, when doing this kind of comparison.
  16. Hank Mobley: Hank Mobley BN 1568 (Classic Records) Curtis Fuller: The Opener BN 1567 (King Japan) Doing a little comparison of the sound of Mobley's tenor on these two, just for kicks.
  17. You just had to go and point this out, didn't you? Now I'm $150 poorer than I was 5 minutes ago... But oh, so very happy! Nice catch!! Very, very fair price.
  18. Any other thoughts on this one? These other titles look tempting. Clark Terry & Max Roach: Friendship Grady Tate: All Love The Great Jazz Trio: Autumn Leaves Eddie Henderson: So What Roy Haynes: Love Letters Lonnie Plaxico: Live at Jazz Standard Will & Rainbow: Harmony Joe Farnsworth: It's Prime time The Great Jazz Trio: Someday My Prince Will Come Marlena Shaw: Lookin' For Love
  19. and "plays great".
  20. I can't resist...I wish you all the luck in the world. Why would someone send you the LP set that is worth 2 times the CD set? Suggestion: Do some research and offer the difference in cash. That Morgan LP set goes for $300-400, for example.
  21. Mulligan/Baker Mosaic..hard to believe this set is over 20 years old!!! Tina Brooks Mosaic
