If I use the 50% off/ no shipping code to buy 6 CD's, will one of the CD's count toward my membership agreement?

The Toshiba 3950/60 DVD players are another option. I do not have one, but have heard good things about it. Use it as CD player. Or get two as they are about $70 each. If you are handy with a soldering iron, there are many mods(ggogle) that apparantly make this sucker sing. Here is one of the postive reviews: Forget the video capabilities. Haven't even tried to watch a viddy on this thing. Been too busy listening to cd's. There is a web buzz on this thing being an incredible bargain as far as it's sound on cd's. The buzz is right and no one will believe how good it sounds unless they plunk down their cash and take one home and plug it in. I am dumbfounded. How in the hell did Toshiba make this little silver box produce the sound it does. Jazz, female vocals, piano, rock-n-roll, metal all sound great on the 3950. I have a $10,000 digital front end to compare this to and I'm not selling either one but the only place this little $70 box falls short is on the most intricate details. You don't get to hear all the way into the music but you get incredibly close. This thing sings right out of the box. I have been playing it all day and am just stunned Longevity may be an issue after reading a few of the 40 reviews. Toshiba

I take it you already have a CDP, as this is just DAC.

How many wpc is the tube amp? There are 1 watt tube amps and there are 300 wpc tube amps. Maybe, your question should be, "What speakers mate well with low powered tube amps?"

I do appreciate the heads-up on these titles and would like your thoughts on other titles to avoid. Maybe, I assumed you were putting Sundazed down, as a whole. I'm sure you are right about the title you mentioned. Like I've said before, I think they(the titles I have) are pretty good overall. But then again, I do not have many of the originals or CD's to compare them to. I have originals and Sundazed reissues of Otis Blue and Born Under A Bad Sign(one of the first LP's I ever listened to..kept it when my brother left home) and find the reissues to be splendid in comparison. Spinlps...Pure Pleasure is a new outfit to me, too. Once they build up the size of their catalog we should hear some feedback.

I have 6 of the above and my favorite is..... SOUL STATION
-
I have about 10+ Sundazed titles(Dylan, Redding, Booker T) and like them tremendously and would not hesitate to buy more.

Hmmmmmmm.....Any thoughts? Should I treat myself? Very nice, Leeway! Enjoy the set, and I know you know you owe your wife.

I'll try to e-mail/PM you some really interesting data soon.

I guess he just likes doing it. Knowing stamper variations with RCA 'Shaded Dogs' was a big thing for collectors, but I do not see it working for BN's.

So many, I really would not know where to begin. I need to decide on my next one, also. There are so many I do not have. Might be a good time to get the Hodges, as prices are down from what they were before. How about the Mingus CBS Mosaic? Both of these get a good amount of turntable time.

That's about the going rate. You could probably go down to Goodwill and get a bunch of Mantovani LP's for 10 cents and use the covers.

Swap my RVG for your old, McMaster CD's
wolff replied to Trader's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Have you compared Art Blakey - Night at Birdland Volume 1 and 2 (issued separately)? If so, which did you prefer? I think the RVG's are more flawed thn usual. -
I've communicated with the buyer quite a bit. I took part in a Blue Note stamper project he has going on. He has to have everthing Blue Note. Probably one he did not have in his collection.

The following comments by a mastering engineer, if true, explain a few things and is one of the reasons I have sympathy for people working with BN tapes. Rudy did all his "tricking" right on the master tape so he didn't have to redub and lose a generation.. In other words, he didn't record something and re-dub it adding compression, echo, EQ, etc., he did it all live in real time while the music was being recorded. Roy DuNann and Howard Holzer at Contemporary recorded everything flat and dry and the "tricks" were added during LP disk mastering. So, a Contemporary master tape today sounds amazing while a Prestige or Blue Note master tape needs a little "reverse trickery" to get it to sound better.

So Addey, has not done any 1500, 4000 or 4100 series BN's?

Larry Kart's jazz book
wolff replied to Larry Kart's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Congratulations!! Reading your Tristano Mosaic at the moment. -
I guess he should move to Montana.
-
Just noticed one in True Blue catalog.
-
Can you name a few BN titles that Addey has done, and any other info so I can get the correct reissue?

Don Wilkerson: Elder Don One of my favorite high gloss, laminated Blue Note covers.
-
Short and simple: I tried a few and they sucked. Turrentine: HUSTLIN'...Halfway through his first solo on 'Goin Home' I just made out someone saying, "Yeahhhh" in the background. Love the nice long solos he takes on this LP.

From listening to my over 200 Blue Note LP's recorded and mastered by Rudy Vangelder, in my opinion, the signature brightness lies at RVG/Lion's feet. Great comparison. I wish I had the time/interest in doing comparisons between original vinyl and a bunch of the CD reissues.
