  1. Thanks for the heads-up, Dan. BTW that web address does not work.
  2. That's a nice handfull. Are they in good shape? Oh yeh, look for the ear in the dead wax.
  3. I'll do another one in a day or two if no one else steps up.
  4. Elder Don / Don Wilkerson One Step Beyond / Jackie McLean Two Souls in One / George Braith
  5. Red Rodney: 1957 Classic Records re-issue. Available at Acoustic Sounds. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder for Signal. With Tommy Flanagan on piano, Ira Sullivan on tenor sax and second trumpet, Oscar Pettiford's bass, and Philly Joe Jones and Elvin Jones splitting time behind the drums. Star Eyes, You Better Go Now, Stella By Starlight, Red Arrow, Box 2000, Ubas I've had this for a number of years. Doesn't seem to be good seller, as it's still available and has not been re-done on 200 gram vinyl. The music is ok, but nothing special. Seems to lack a coherent drive or groove that I like. Overall, it's a nice, laidback date and the ballads are quite nice. For those into sound, for a recording from 1957, it's super. Clean, with good fidelity. Stereo spread is very left, right and middle. YMMV
  6. Christian said he had never heard of Bob Irwin. If it's the same Bob Irwin I've heard of, they could have done worse. I love the work he's done on the Dylan and Redding catalogs. Sundazed

  8. This needs further discussion, but(I think) the re-issues you see of Columbia, Epic, Time, Atlantic, United Artist and Blue Note, that are currently available at about $10, are done by Rhino/Scorpio. The sound has been noted by some to be poor, and I keep putting off trying some. Let me guess, a bright, thin sound, lacking accurate tones. I did read one post saying one of the Atlantic's sounded good. The Atlantic titles are all that interest me, since I have few and there are many titles available. I do not expect great sound, but am hoping they will be acceptable to my ears. Definitely, look elsewhere for the better, all analog re-issues.
  9. I think I have most of Hill's Blue Notes. I too, like the the inclusion of a sax in his albums. I'm no authority on what's best, but I like Black Fire quite a bit. Andrew!, with John Gilmore is the one I play the most.
  10. I'm going to cheat and add a non-jazz reissue. James Brown: Say It Loud-I'm Black And I'm Proud What's there to say.... I mention this as there are about 30 other Brown reissues available at vinyl.com.
  11. Interesting, thanks. I wonder if Harry Weinger is resposible for the Brown Polydor catalog being available on vinyl(30 titles). If so, I thank him.
  12. Cadence lists about 20 titles on wax for $8 each, if you did not know.
  13. Since I was playing these I thought I'd mention them. Probably more of a collectors item, but still available at Acoustic Sounds and other titles from the series can be found HERE. New Faces, New Sounds Frank Foster Quintet Blue Note 5043 Howard McGhee, Volume 2 Howard McGhee Blue Note 5024 Toshiba EMI(Japan) 5000 10 inch series. Very quiet vinyl with great packaging. Nice full bodied mono sound that lets the music come through quite nicely for the time period. I think I notice a couple 'drop outs'. Very good tenor and trombone on the Foster, which is a killer LP in my opinion. I love the mix of ballads and bop. As always, YMMV.
  14. The BN double LP's have good to just ok sound, but not the 'classic' BN sound by any stretch. They can be found cheap and in great shape and the vinyl was pretty good. I do not buy them anymore. For whatever reason, I much prefer, to have and to listen to, the Prestige/Riverside/etc. twofers by Fantasy. Some really good mastering engineers did a lot of these--RVG and David Turner for example. YMMV
  15. DUKE ELLINGTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA Featuring Paul Gonsalves (OJC-623) Recorded May 1st 1962 Bought this through Fantasy. Great album if you want to hear a lot of Gonsalves solos. I usually play 2 songs over and over; Caravan and Happy Go Lucky Local. For whatever reason, sound is just ok and it's a mono release.
  16. Another way to do it would be to figure out what title you want first and from there search out what's available and at what price, condition and sound quality. For example, what are the current choices for Brooks: True Blue or Griffin: The Congregation on vinyl.
  17. I think I would probably agree with that - although the 'King' GFX pressings are usually very good, often superb, and are well worth seeking out. I would choose the Japanese pressings for availability of titles and condition. It's not that easy to get many titles in nice condition of 35 year old Liberty's. Also, many of the older titles, re-issued by Liberty are rechannelled stereo, something you want to avoid if you are into sound quality.
  18. I thought it would be nice to have a thread to post about reissues and originals that you have and are available. Please include where you got them and any other details that may be of interest.
  19. Thinking about your situation some more, I would go for Japanese pressings first. They are a quality product. Many can be found new from HERE. They sound good and vinyl is quiet. Then I'd get a Classic or two to see how I like them. Cheaper than the Japanese pressings and the quality is quite good , also.
  20. Sonny Rollins: Now's The Time(RCA) Classic reissue Killer music and IMO a killer reissue by Classic. Anyone else think so? Big, booming tone on Sonny's tenor. Deep and detailed bass. Like many live shows, the bass on many jazz records is not as present as I like.
  21. Moderately cheap? In dollars, please. I do not like the DMM EU pressings. Since you are in Italy, try Vivante.com for the reissues. Blue label pressings are ok and fairly common. New reissues: Classic's are good. Rhino/Scorpio has a series out, 20-30 titles at $10US each. (never tried) Do not know if Vivante carries these. There is a Japanese BN series that just came out, containing these titles: $40US TOJJ-6501 Somethin' Else Cannonball Adderley 81595 TOJJ-6502 Cool Struttin' Sonny Clark 81588 TOJJ-6503 Moanin' Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers 84003 TOJJ-6504 The Scene Changes - The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol.5 Bud Powell 84009 TOJJ-6505 Blue Train John Coltrane 81577 TOJJ-6506 A Night At The Village Vanguard Sonny Rollins 1581 TOJJ-6507 Candy Lee Morgan 1590 TOJJ-6508 Clifford Brown Memorial Album Clifford Brown 1526 TOJJ-6509 Maiden Voyage Herbie Hancock 84195 TOJJ-6510 Round About Midnight At The Cafe Bohemia Kenny Dorham 1524 TOJJ-6511 Jutta Hip With Zoot Sims Jutta Hip 1530 TOJJ-6512 Swing Swang Swingin' Jackie McLean 84024 TOJJ-6513 Workout Hank Mobley 84080 TOJJ-6514 Fuego Donald Byrd 84026 TOJJ-6515 Flight To Jordan Duke Jordan 84046 TOJJ-6516 True Blue Tina Brooks 84041 TOJJ-6517 Undercurrent Kenny Drew 84059 TOJJ-6517 True Blue Tina Brooks 84041 TOJJ-6518 Midnight Blue Kenny Burrell 84123 TOJJ-6519 The Congregation Johnny Griffin 1580 TOJJ-6520 A Night In Tunisia Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers 84049
  22. doubleM, I see you took my advice to drop the whole thing. You are one stubborn guy. I'll remember not to get you pissed at me. How many Ebay transactions have you done? I left NF on a non paying winner for a $9 item. He never replied to one one e-mail. He had 5 NF at the time out of 200 transactions. 60 days later I got a MO from him. After he got the item he left me NF for some perceived problem Last time I looked he had 10 NF's and had closed his account, but my NF is still there. Did my contact ever get back to you? Have you relisted the item?
  23. I'm a firm believer in sharing music, to a degree. How many of you have heard some music, for the first time, via a copy from a friend and later went out and got your own copy? How many of you have given a friend a comp and they later went out and bought music of the artist they liked? I could go on, but you get the idea.
  24. Maybe I'll get $8 off their $50 2lp 45 RPM jazz titles. Maybe not.
