  1. Well done to the whole family !!!
  2. Nice Birthday treat, seeing Randy, have a great day.....
  3. thoughts of Turrentine brought on by the imminent release of the new BN Conn disc has seen me listening to my ST holdings for the first time in ages.(many years) Easy Walker- so very dull, with 5 extra bonus dull tracks, track at a time it's soft ok jazz , basically smooth jazz, very little meat for me here.- 2 stars The Spoiler- some pop but decent swinging charts, nice- 3 stars Rough and Tumble- dull pop like charts , some decent tracks early on in the disc- 2 stars Comin your way- excellent set, this is more like it 4 stars 50% Mr T, could do better, perhaps I got the wrong discs !!!
  4. Next up some non-ECM ECM discs, at least most unlike what I normal associate with them Enrico Rava The Plot..ok it's a bit spacey but quite a hard hitter then tough still Enrico Rava Quartet with Roswell Rudd and J.F. Jenny-Clark- sublime
  5. Marion Brown , Marion Brown Quartet ESP-DISK - Fontana- great session, penguin guide not exactly enthusiastic about this session, strikes me as a "classic"- whatever that means !! Albert Mangelsdorff Albert Mangelsdorff and his friends MPS-- I dig it , you dig it.... the children enjoy the farting sounds......
  6. Alyn Shipton's excellent Jazz Library programme has had me reaching for what little Stanley T I have. I've not listened in years but I'm really enjoying The Spoiler and Comin' your way. I avoided the Mosaic set these years because of the reports of the sound and the fact I never realy valued ST's playing. I'm reconsidering. Is the sound on the Mosaic any worse than that on the 80s McMaster version I have of Comin' your way
  7. apologies for not noticing Post 4, in my defence I read the thread before I logged in and therefore couldn't see any attached images ! I was lucky enough to have picked up an LP copy of Riverside 356/357 at the same time I found the Cottrell LP. It's a wonderfully varied set, the Cottrell selections are my favourite but the Billie and Dede Pierce tracks are wonderful too. The story in the liner notes can't help but draw you into the music. Many thanks Chris.
  8. I love Bud Powell's version on LTD's "Our Man in Paris"
  9. I got this session very recently and love it. My Japanese LP is in mono and sounds very natural , was it recorded in stereo as well and were there any extra takes released ever?
  10. Chet Baker/Lee Konitz, In Concert - India Navigation, recent purchase in mint condition , lovely session
  11. CBBB- , More Smiles- MPS -UK , relatively mellow session by their standards. no quite the blistering ferocity seen on some of their albums (that I've heard)
  12. Art Ensemble of Chicago- Alternate Express - DIW- ultra quiet but bright blue vinyl !!! Very nice session, lovely sound- no doubt a digital recording ( judging by the recording date) but great none the less.
  13. Good catch I got my copy for £15 recently and I thought I'd done well. Better session than AMG might suggest.
  14. Hank Mobley- Far away lands - DMM reissue- sounding all the better for a quick clean ! next up Fingers - remember Mingus- Spotlite- all star UK cast inc. Dave Green, Lol Coxhil , Bruce Turner (sic), Michael Garrick and Alan Jackson- first rate session
  15. Thanks for the prompt, I must try it on the few DMMs I have, generally I've avoided these because of distortion on the inner grooves. I'll give it a go on the Mobes's Far away Land and Ike's Easy Living and report back
  16. I've been using this for about 6 months now, it's perfectly good stuff and much cheaper than the other two-part cleaner I've also tried. I see no point in paying the extra, I'd prefer to spend the money on fresh inner sleeves and more records or CDs !! It also doesn't irritate my skin unlike the isopropyl alcohol mix I used at first. My Clear Matrix machine is just fine. does the job. The number of resurrections of LPs from my student days is impressive. None were scratched but some had food, beer, wine , thumb prints etc. all easily removed by 'L'Art du Son'. Some records need 3 applications but my usual proceedure is 2 applications only but leaving the first application on for around a minute. can't be bother to waste too much time on cleaning I'd rather listen, so essentially clean records aren't cleaned. I clean those obviously dirty and those with excess surface noise. A remarkable number of the latter even when in visually mint condition are significantly improved. I can't say I'm looking for any improvement in definition rather reduced surface noise/distortion.
  17. I'm confused here as my copy of The Complete Braxton 1971 is Arista/Freedom , small print however says licensed from Black Lion. What ever I'll be on this set at some point I have no doubt
  18. How many discs is this one likely to be ?
  19. I bought an EST disc from the band at one of their earliest UK gigs. It was a phenomenal gig in a small club seating just 100. Anyway the CD From Gagarin's Point of View wouldn't play properly. Clearly I couldn't take it back as the band had left town. I emailed the record company (ACT0 and without the slightest quibble was sent a replacement disc from Germany. Great service and great CD too.
  20. Just so that the boys from 'Trainspotting' can trash it a bit? Yep, the DHL option sucks in my opinion too. I've always been 'dinged' heftily with that option so tend to stick with the US Air Mail (where you get dinged also but slightly less)> Trainspotting was set in Edinburgh ...I was tracking the progress of the parcel on-line, salivating at the prospect of receipt. The dingbats received the parcel into their Edinburgh depot , then sent it to Glasgow for 24hrs safe keeping and then back to the Edinburgh depot again and then me. What ever transpires Mosaic sets remain very good value for money whether Selects of black-boxes....
  21. Just so that the boys from 'Trainspotting' can trash it a bit? Yep, the DHL option sucks in my opinion too. I've always been 'dinged' heftily with that option so tend to stick with the US Air Mail (where you get dinged also but slightly less)> I had the Hodges sent by airmail and it took 3 weeks whereas DHL is normally a few days. Is the 3 weeks the norm? You've got me being cautious about DHL! DHL should be fine I reckon for shipments below taxable value ( ie around $30). I've had several 7 -discs sail through untroubled (when the pound was even stronger than it is now). I've complained to DHL about my most recent charge. I don't expect success really but they might temper their service charge given their documented ineptitude. 3 weeks for airmail not uncommon in my experience.
  22. I noticed that it appeared in both Last Chance and Running Low, not sure if that's the usual form. These pre-war Mosaic wear very well I've noticed and are so well executed.
  23. Flurin what ya playing at. I'd successfully managed to ignore the lure of the Prima/Manone set until your comments. My credit card provider thanks you.
  24. I've been hit hard by DHL so avoid them like the plague ! I'm avoiding DHL too, ridiculous charges on the last Mosaic set (Miles vinyl 65-68) they delivered to me. they calculated the value of the shipping as £37 ($72 approx) taxed it accordingly and slapped on a £10 handling charge. Most dues I've ever been asked to pay. Additionally they sent it via Glasgow for 24 hrs to add insult to injury.....
