Sounds good ! Let us know what sort of playback resolution you get. looks like standard broadcast quality, limited more by the quality of the original footage than any loss incurred through recording to DVD.

To answer my own question, BBC iPlayer is available on my cable network, so I'm currently recording the Basie TV programme on my DVD recorder. It appears to be working, so I'll do the same with the Armstrong date , which I also was totally unaware of .

Bob it's on BBC iplayer, not sure if that sort of content can be copied Basie BBC4

Ellington's MONEY JUNGLE
Clunky replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
regarding the most recent remaster of Money Jungle ( i.e. the second domestic issue from 2006 approx.) , I'm sure I read somewhere that a track was missed off the newer issue or perhaps it was misidentified. Am I recollecting this, correctly. I love this session and am sorely tempted to upgrade from the earlier CD version for better sound and the two alternate takes. -
Again very hard but.... Herbie Nichols Larry Young Serge Chaloff

10 - Trilok Gurtu ??

There's plenty of love for Kenny here......

Well I have no idea about the other tracks but track 5 really appeals to me, great procession of soloists. Can't wait for the answers

This disc is easy to love, but harder to guess Track 2 Bobby Wellins and Stan Tracy Track 5 Jay McShann, Walter Brown - vocal, , great trumpet and tenor solos, the former sounding Dizzy-like but not Dizzy. Track 9 is that Woody on the trumpet Track 12 John Carter or Marty Ehlrich or possibly some other modern clarinet player, I guess Carter from his suite of sessions covering Afro-American history

1. Not Kenton or CBBB 3. Not Swedish ! 4. Not Dave Pike 6. Not Woody Shaw 8. You probably do have this. 9. Not Sarah or Ella ! 12. - Yes, 'Body & Soul'. Thom nailed this one. 13. Not 'Abercrombie and Wall' (Isn't that the name of a store?) Cheers for the input ! Blast....

That's just it, I can't rip to disc the files but I can listen to them on my mac. No ideas so far Drat! I didn't think about saving the ZIP file in a Mac-convertible format. Any hints or suggestions for/from the Mac-maniacs would be greatly appreciated! No idea; my mac likes Zip files just fine. I'd suggest downloading Flip For Mac; it will allow you to do pretty much whatever you want to with those files. Option B, download SWITCH, which will allow you to convert the WMA files to mp3 files. thanks Switch has done the trick- useful utility too. now for the tracks Track 1- Kenton like but probably some bass ass Yurpeans like CBBB having a heavy brass day Track 3 Swedish ?? Arne Domnerus Track 4 groovy , luvely track Dave Pike ? Track 6 Woody Shaw- Track 8 - very familiar I think, I may have this, oh the embarassment....no idea Track 9 the Divine SV- groovy wood blocks, or coconuts being clattered together, nice Track 12 Body and Soul- I wouldn't ever guess who this was Track 13 - guitarist John abercrombie ???, perhaps his group with Dan Wall?

I've seen him play once, earlier this year on a brief series of dates in Scotland. I was very impressed and have loved the few CDs I bought that evening. Clearly very clever, dry wit , ambitious in a modest way judging by his varied output to date.

Seems to be a hard disc to get hold off. Backordered thru amazon as I couldn't bear the $18 postage charge that Firehouse wanted to charge me !!!. It sounds as if it'll be worth the wait

I'm very pleased that BN has taken this direction. I'll be happy if the vinyl quality and mastering is decent. I presume that McMaster used analogue only for the LPs. Anyone know if the attached Cds have more tracks (where available) Song for My Father springs to mind. I fancy Page One and perhaps Somethin Else

Lately I've really been enjoying JJ Johnson's Quintergy Vanguard set. I have to say that, the live sound Jim achieved is IMO stunning, VV never sounded so good...and this from the early digital age....

"Oxford Comma" by Vampire Weekend - liked this one a lot, pity about the repeated use of the "F" word which limit its play time at home.

add me in , thanks

While preparing the Ahmad Jamal CD box set due in 2009, it occurred to us that an 8-CD set doesn’t have to give birth to a back-busting box of twelve 180-gram LPs; it can also give birth to a double-album reissue of both LPs of Ahmad Jamal at The Pershing, the groundbreaking albums that generated such influential hits as “Poinciana.” Freed from thinking that Mosaic LPs have to mirror out large CD sets, we’ve engaged in a treasure hunt coming up with new title ideas like reissuing those two magnificent Lucky Thompson-Oscar Pettiford albums on ABC-Paramount or Duke Ellington’s 1963 masterpiece “Afro Bossa.” How about the complete Thelonious Monk Live At The It Club on LP for the first time, beautifully remixed from the original three-track masters? We’ve only just begun. Best Vinyl Shop a new and exciting Mosaic initiative,

LF: Mike Taylor Trio CD on Impressed-Repressed
Clunky replied to clifford_thornton's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Ha... another competitor for Alan's vinyl !!! Very nice in fact, the Quark has solo set Crops and The Woe. The latter is pretty raw and noisy group piece in slighltly dull mono. The solo set is much lighter. I also go High low and Order on Claxon which on first listen strikes me as superb. -
Moanin was my first Blakey album. Some 20 years ago. I'd seen him live prior to getting this lovely disc. I'd agree that it's not his absolute best but it's hardly dross. I find Golson's compositions wear a little thin on repeated listening, such that my enthusiasm for this material has paled.

Thanks for this Larry. So was MDs slide to all things electric motivated by necessity rather than artistry. Any further thoughts on this. From this end of history the electric piano here seems very deliberate. I suppose Gerry Mulligan's quartet is the best example of necessity producing a change in artistic direction, there must be others....

The Woe Steve Lacy (1973 Quark Records) - quite dense this one !!

Happy Birthday,,,,, some fine Geller on the Hep label.

I got the Herbie Nichols album quite recently despite having the Mosaic set on CD. Worth the few pounds I paid, to have it on vinyl with all the tracks released by Alfred Lion gathered in one place. Vinyl nice and quiet but in reality not much better than the already good sounding Mosaic CDs.
