  1. Thanks--it sounds like an event worth planning for and attending.
  2. Mary Lou Williams and Barbara Carroll, Ladies of Jazz
  3. Spiritualizing the Senses is an all instrumental album.
  4. Sound quality is good. Recorded at the Cork and Bib on Long Island by William Glaser. While you are at it, the Silveto release Spiritualizing the Senses (with Ralph Moore and Eddie Harris) is quite good as well--probably his best post-Blue Note recording.
  5. Horace Silver released that himself in the 1980s on LP. I bought a copy from him in between sets and he autographed it. I do not believe it has been released on CD.
  6. Any comments on the logistics of this festival? Can you walk from venue to venue or do you need a car to get around? How are the venues? Good sound? Are they overcrowded? Is admission smooth and easy?
  7. Ibrahim Maalouf, Wind
  8. I think you mean Terence Blanchard. Roy Hargrove is from Dallas and used to play around here fairly often, but it's been a long time. I'd like to hear the recording the Caravan of Dreams made of the weekend engagement in 1988 where David Newman led a group with Roy on trumpet, plus Larry Willis, Walter Booker and Idris Mohammad. I recollect attending two nights.
  9. Where's that bullet train when you need it.
  10. Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain, Eric Harland, Sangam (ECM)
  11. Roy Hargrove & Antonio Hart, The Tokyo Sessions
  12. I am not able to go to Austin to see David Murray that weekend (but Henry Threadgill, I'm going). I have seen David Murray twice recently, in January and last October. He sounds good.
  13. That is a great record. Perfect pianist.
  14. Otis Taylor, Fantasizing About Being Black (Trance Blues Festival)

  16. Illinois Jacquet, Port Of Rico (Clef)
  17. Your secret identity as Bob Dylan's mother has been revealed.
  18. Shouldn't a Dylan standards record be named Hubris? I'm not sure if it was an insult or a joke, but someone gave me that Dylan Christmas CD for Christmas--definitively the worst piece of musical sh-t I've ever heard.
  19. Synthesize the Soul: Astro-Atlantic Hypnotica From the Cape Verde Islands, 1973-1988
  20. Mohan Bhatt played in Allen a couple of years ago--a very fine concert!
