  1. The new Fantasy era Prestiges are most of the releases in the 10,000 series.
  2. So I'd always assumed that those Prestige two-fer reissues in the 70s were done after Fantasy owned them, but before the OJC identity had been created. I guess I was mistaken. Thanks for clarifying. Prestige released the original twofer reissues in the sixties. But most of the Prestige twofers were produced by Fantasy in the Mid to late 1970s. OJCs came after the twofers, if I recall correctly.
  3. Prestige didn't "go under," it stayed independent a half dozen years longer than Blue Note did, and also continued releasing records after its acquisition by Fantasy.
  4. I don't usually stay up that late, but this is a pretty good week at the club. I wish I could be there in person this week. Monday night, I heard a set by Ari Hoenig with Jean Michel Pilc. Last night, a set by the Frank Lacy, Stacey Dillard, Theo Hill, Josh Evans regular Tuesday night group. Wednesday and Thursday feature Brian Charette's Organ Sextet with Mike DiRubbo and John Ellis. Friday and Saturday feature Melissa Aldana with Francisco Mela on drums.
  5. Amazon often refunds part of the pre-order price based on competitor prices and in this case they reduced the price by $1.99 after shipment.
  6. For the first time in a couple of weeks, the broadcast is back to working perfectly again--HD video and a clean and uninterrupted sonic feed.
  7. Well worth hearing. I was reading about her, listening to some tracks, and ordered her CD.
  8. Caroline Davis at Scat Jazz, December 26.
  9. Wes Montgomery, Movin', The Complete Verve Recordings (Hip O Select)--discs 1 and 2 yesterday, disc 3 today.
  10. Last night, Shelley Carroll at Scat Jazz in Fort Worth.
  11. You'll just have to bite the bullet and pay. Worth every penny and then some.
  12. You will be thanking Big Jim soon.
  13. I would love to have been there; the CD is excellent.
  14. His last 13 (!) CDs, released since 2006, are all available on cdbaby.com.
  15. He had 2 new CDs (Euphoric and Revelation) released in 2011. His later years were extremely prolific for recordings. I saw him at Drom in October of 2012. He was only able to play about half the set. About 15 years previously when I heard him at the Knitting Factory, he was still in prime form.
  16. Not every state. Only states where Amazon has a physical presence (like a distribution center) can require it to collect sales tax.
  17. Joe Diorio, Solo Guitar. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FMH8GW/ref=dm_ws_ps_cdp?ie=UTF8&qid=1385473003&s=music&sr=1-2
  18. It's the same in Texas, sales tax is now collected on purchases from amazon.
  19. I was a bit underwhelmed by this date, seemed a bit of mess IIRC but it's been a while since I heard it. I rather liked about half of it.
  20. Lee Konitz, Leo Wright, Pony Poindexter, Phil Woods, The Alto Summit (Prestige/MPS).
  21. Michael White, Father Music, Mother Dance (Impulse)
  22. Tina Brooks, Back to the Snacks Jackie McLean, Jackie's Sack Don Cherry, Where is the Men's Room?
  23. I'm sorry, I wasn't at home; I checked in for the repeat this morning but the broadcast wasn't working at all.
  24. And Gene Bertoncini, aged 76, sounded beautiful last night. I didn't hear that, as the last two nights I have been having connection problems--I'm not sure if it is the broadcast or on my end.
  25. Yes, while not a perfect recording, the detail of his guitar playing is captured more clearly here than on the studio recordings. Bass and drums are sufficiently audible and balanced with the guitar, and the vocals are mostly clearly captured.
