All Night Long (1962) film soundtrack
kh1958 replied to cbrady's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I have the LP, not the CD. I believe the Mingus/Brubeck track is available on a Dave Brubeck CD anthology/retrospective on Columbia. -
Then there was a group of classical records (in very good shape) that I found recently, which had a series of dates written on the back, ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s--I assume this person felt compelled to write down every date on which he listened to the record on the back.

I just bought a couple of dozen excellent early '60s jazz records which belonged to someone who wrote what at first glance appeared to be "Jug" on the back (Gene Ammons' record collection!), but on closer inspection I think it was "Greg".

Yes, I also like that song alot; it's on my ipod. I believe this is her sixth original CD, I have all of them except for the very first one. I've never seen any of her CDs in the U.S.--only at Tower and Mix-Up in Mexico--hopefully the new one will be more available. The last two times I was in New York, Magos appeared at a club a two or three days before/after my visit. (Sigh).

Great! I was feeling kind of lonely on this thread. In addition to Aaron Goldberg and Lionel Louke, it is Rickey Rodriguez on bass and Alex Kautz (from memory, as I'm not at home) on drums--plus two women backup singers who must be sisters on a couple of the songs. I don't think it has been available on CD in the U.S., but her preceding recording, Soliluna (a collaboration with another Mexican jazz vocalist, Iraida Noreiga) is really good, and very jazz oriented.

Magos Herrera's first CD on an American label was released this past week--Distancia on Sunnyside. I was quite excited to receive it and listened repeatedly yesterday. Aaron Goldberg has taken over the piano chair in her group (and plays superbly), and Lionel Loueke guests on guitar (I like him better here than on his Blue Note recording). Songs are performed in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Highlights among the original compositions include the song that leads off the album--Reencuetro (Reencounter) and New Song (a prior version appeared on her wonderful preceding recording, Soliluna). There's a wonderful Spanish language version of Milton Nascimento's Vera Cruz, and a very nice version of Jobim's Retrato Em Branco E Preto. She's appearing at the Jazz Standard in New York on May 20. Here's her current concert schedule: may 20 2009 7:30p jazz standard. magos herrera.cd release concert new york, new york may 30 2009 8:00p teatro de la ciudad de mexico/cd release concert! mexico df, distrito federal jul 3 2009 5:00p philadelphia museum of art philadelphia, pennsylvania aug 20 2009 6:00p jazz @ vail square vail, colorado aug 21 2009 8:00p dazzle, denver, co denver, colorado

Yes, I would, especially at that price; I usually like those Columbia Brubeck records. And Columbia six eyes LPs are finely made and have wonderful sound.

Columbia made those recordings, and they were not released because Columbia ended their contract with Mingus. I believe I read somewhere that Columbia gave these recordings to Mingus as part of their settlement. If that's the case, they should have come out on Revenge/32Jazz in the late 90s, I guess The Priestley book says British CBS did the recording and raves about a Mingus composition called Mindreaders Convention in Milano, which I've never heard in any form.

If I remember correctly, Sonny Rollins performed in Austin in November 1992, at the same place he was at last night. I missed the 1992 show, but I did see last night's concert - great show!. He last played in Dallas/Fort Worth at the Caravan of Dreams on November 6, 1992. -

I would have attended, except I had to work past 11 last night. Hopefully they will have you back. Dallas is indeed a poor music city.
