  1. Cigars I don't need, but I had some Cuban coffee in Mexico once, and that is something I would like to be able to buy.
  2. If you go to Mexico, Cuban cigars are prominently for sale at the airport. After that, you are on your own.

  4. Miles Davis--Bitches Brew (Columbia two eyes).
  5. Flip Philips--Jumping Moods (Clef 10 inch) Jimmy Giuffre--Western Suite (Atlantic, black label) Ralph Towner--Solstice, Sound and Shadows (ECM)

  7. I remember when Spiritualizing the Senses came out, and lyrics were printed on the back cover; when I saw that, I inwardly cringed. Then I heard the record and - surprise! - no vocals, just a lot of good music. It was a very pleasant surprise. Eddie Harris was on that record, correct? Yes--it was recorded in 1983. I bought it from him personally when he appeared at the Caravan of Dreams in 1985. As I recall, his quintet played some of the music from this recording, with Ralph Moore on tenor and Brian Lynch on trumpet--Horace was playing really well, the music was even better live than the record--I heard four sets, all fabulous and inspired. Me too.
  8. Clifford Brown--Max Roach--Study in Brown (Mercury, blue cover)
  9. Zoot Sims--a test pressing by H.V. Waddell Co. in Burbank, California. No information as to label, track titles, or name of the album. Based on the label ID no. 2310-903, this appears to be Zoot Sims Plays Johnny Mandel, on Pablo.
  10. Conductor Don Cornelius
  11. Paul Desmond---Take Ten (RCA black label)
  12. This Is Ray Brown (Verve trumpet label)

    Sonny Sharrock

Does anyone have a list of all the Herbie Mann recordings featuring Sonny Sharrock?
  17. The blog looks very interesting, but the white print on a black background format is difficult to read for very long.
  18. Visions of Dawn is enjoyable and recommended.
  19. This sounds like a job for Uptown Records.

  23. I have four: Horace Silver's Filthy McNasty (45-1817), Ike Quebec, Shu Shu/Liebestraum (45-1875). Both of these have a solid blue label with a 43 W.61st Street Address. Art Blakey's Moanin (45-1735), Cannonball Adderley, Somthin' Else (45-1738). The latter two have blue and white labels, with A Division of Liberty Records on the label.
