  13. The Essential Coleman Hawkins (Verve)
  14. Zawinul (Atlantic)
  15. I thought Mingus said that when he heard Jeff Beck doing Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, he heard the sound of money. Beck's version of Goodbye Pork Pie Hat on Wired or Blow by Blow (I forget) is pretty tepid next to the two recorded Mingus versions.
  16. I thought the best performances on these concerts were by Gilmore (especially) and Ra. The sound balance could be better, and it's a bit of overkill (one or two concerts would have been enough--I thought the second concert of the four was the best)--but as you say, it is quite good at various times. I like the drummers as well.
  17. Yes, Foley's "lead bass" sounded like an electric guitar to me.
  18. It seems like I've been waiting forever for Charles Mingus Live at Ronnie Scott's, originally recorded by Columbia, to be released.
  19. Charles Mingus--Let My Children Hear Music (Columbia) Charles Mingus-- Bluebird (America)
  20. Herb Ellis and Charlie Byrd -- Guitar Guitar (Columbia two eyes, mono)
  21. I agree. I bought the Prestige twofer back in the mid-1970s and have always really liked this band.
  22. I was on the fence about getting that one, but after hearing it I'm glad I did.
  23. Favorite April Fool's Day Pranks involving Explosions.
  24. These are her releases as a leader or co-leader: Firefly 1981 Take Two 1982 Transitions 1983 Catwalk 1984 Together with Larry Coryell, 1985 East to Wes 1988 This is Me 1990 Transitions and Catwalk are my two favorites. In addition, I recommend the Richie Cole/Hank Crawford CD Bossa International, which is a live recording featuring Emily Remler.
