  1. Jupiter and Okwess at New Morning. A shot of musical energy; the sound of joy...
  2. Dustygroove has come through for me with a copy of the Freddie Hubbard.
  3. Introducing Talib Kibwe (Evidence)
  4. Recently I watched La Piscine, a great movie. That photo in the article of Marianne Faithful ignoring Mick Jagger in favor of Alain Delon makes me laugh.
  5. The LP in my collection has 8 of the 15 tracks on your LP (in different order). The liner notes state that there is a second volume from the concert. Your LP has very long playing time per side, so I assume they just put it all in one volume
  6. Chet Baker, Picture of Heath
  7. I couldn't find a copy at my friendly neighborhood record store.

  11. When I went in the late afternoon, Josey records still had about ten copies or so. They sold me one.
  12. Lee Konitz, Satori, Milestone) Jay Hoggard, Overview (Muse)
  13. I do recall Albert King's bus being parked in the Antone's parking lot the two weekends I heard him play there, circa 1982-1983. It was a guitar battle all night between Albert King and the second guitarist in his band (wish I knew who he was), whose amp was not turned up as loud as Albert King's amp. Unfortunately, B.B. King didn't play there during that period. Buddy Guy would fly in as a solo artist and play with the House band. He and Junior Wells also showed up two weekends with a full band.
  14. That's right, in Texas English dungarees equals jeans and those things are overalls, which are suitable for farming.
  15. Marlon Jordan, Live at the 2022 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (Munck)
  16. Nana Vasconcelos, Steve Gorn, Badal Roy, Mike Richmond, Asian Journal
  17. I find Verves to be reasonably common in the area. Bill's was the vilest record store of all time. Josey does have some of their inventory but is selling it separately. Their stock does not come from Bill's. When they opened they were much better stocked, from large collections the owners had bought. Now they have slowed down and seem to re-stock from buying from individuals, but they still get a reasonable amount good stuff (e.g., Buddy Tate's Tate a Tate on Prestige purchased last weekend for $15)..
  18. My impression is that, in terms of 50s/60s jazz LP pressings, the major label releases are much more common in Texas than the independent East Coast Jazz labels. My suspicion is that Blue Note, Riverside and Prestige were not well distributed in Texas during that era. The West Coast/cool jazz releases (Pacific Jazz/Contemporary) were perhaps more popular or better distributed in Texas during that era. The Chicago label Argo is ubiquitous, but limited to Ahmad Jamal and Ramsey Lewis.
  19. Volume 3 has the Peck Kelly recordings towards the end--a superb and barely recorded Texas pianist.
  20. "I couldn´t read who is on it. I think I have somewhere a Charlie Parker Memorial 1965 (10 years after Charlie Parker´s death but it has more musicians form the generation before Bird (Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldrigde)." This Charlie Parker Memorial Concert (on Cadet) is from 1970 and has some unusual combinations. For example, Dexter Gordon with Von Freeman, Red Rodney, Roy Haynes, Jodie Christian and Rufus Reid. Another is Kenny Dorham with Ray Nance, Joe Daley, Rufus Reid, Muhal Richard Abrams and Wilbur Campbell. Also, Lee Konitz with Art Hoyle, John Young, Rufus Reid and Philly Joe Jones. Good record.
  21. Kiran Ahluwalia with Rez Abassi, 7 Billion
  22. Charlie Parker Memorial Concert (Cadet)
  23. David Murray, Brad Jones, Hamid Drake, Seriana Promethia (Intakt)
  24. Gili Yalo (Dead Sea Recordings)
  25. Just saw Emmet Cohen (and Bruce Harris) in New Orleans with Herlin Riley. A killer set.
