The recent "premium" LP releases of Mingus Three, The Black Saint... and Mingus 5x have all sounded great.

That's what I was wondering too.

Now, with the support of the Charles Mingus Estate, we are proud to present for the first time, the most expansive LP edition of A Modern Jazz Symposium Of Music And Poetry to date. A wonderful set featuring an all star band alternating throughout of Jimmy Knepper (trombone), Shafi Hadi (tenor and alto sax), Bill Hardman and Clarence Shaw (trumpet), Dannie Richmond (drums), Horace Parlan and Bob Hammer (piano), with narration by the fabulous Mel Stewart. Ahmad Jamal "Live In Paris (1971) - Lost Ortf Recordings
kh1958 replied to Harbour's topic in New Releases
So when he got wind of a set of pristine old recordings, captured in the mid-to-late 1960s during performances at the Penthouse club in Seattle, he hesitated. It took some cajoling for Jamal to sign off on a release. Eventually, “I went along with it,” he said. “But it’s unusual for me.” His reluctance was thawed by Zev Feldman, the skillful and enthusiastic producer who unearthed the tapes, and by the quality of the performances themselves. Culled from half-hour radio broadcasts that had been caught on the Penthouse’s reel-to-reel tape machine, these recordings will see the light of day starting in November, with the release of two separate double-disc collections: “Emerald City Nights: Live at the Penthouse (1963-64)” and “(1965-66),” the first albums to arrive on Feldman’s new label, Jazz Detective. A third set, “(1966-68),” will be released soon after. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?

Last night, at the Kitchen Cafe, Shelley Carrol, Fred Sanders, Johnathan Fisher, Quincy Davis. Probably the nicest listening room in the city, Shelley sounded great. They played compositions by Ellington, Arnett Cobb, Don Wilkerson, Eddie Cleanhead Venson, Body and Soul, Love Theme from Apache (recorded by Coleman Hawkins on Impulse). I enjoyed the sets immensely. -
