  1. So do I win anything? How about pie? I should at least get some pie.
  2. That's about as close as Joe gets to "going postal".
  3. It's Mendelsson's Spring Song (Opus 62, No. 6).
  4. Probably not Woody's band playing Don Rader's Greasy Sack Blues, as that would be redundant.
  5. Jon Faddis? I'm not the biggest fan of Jon Faddis (I like him more in a trumpet section than as a soloist), but he did some good work in the 70s (as a lead player primarily) with Thad & Mel (Suite for Pops, Greetings and Salutations). He also participated in the Kenny Burrell Ellington tribute. He had a couple things out under his name too, nothing earth-shaking, but not terrible. I just mentioned this because I thought that he was an interesting choice of someone to avoid. I guess his obsession with high notes probably gets on some people's nerves. He did have some freaky chops back then, though... . Same with Will Lee- he played on some 70s fusion sides that were pretty good, with Sanborn and the Brecker Brothers, among others. Wasn't he also part of that group White Elephant? Once again, I'm not a Will Lee completist or anything, but I've always thought of him as kind of existing in the background, in the rhythm section as a supporting player, so I've never really noticed him to the point of wanting to avoid him. I too liked Steve Khan's projects.
  6. Another character actor you probably know well (and is still with us)..... William Schallert (b. 1922)
  7. Charles Lane You may not recognize him by name, but you've seen him on many TV shows and films.....he was the quintessential "crotchety old man" (with a heart of gold). RIP
  8. Happy birthday Chris! I remember turning 18. At that time, 18 was the magic age to become "legal". As a matter of fact, let's change the subject. Have a great day! Nice to have you around here! It's good to see an appreciation of good music by someone of your age!
  9. Wow, I didn't realize that Chick Corea and Brett Somers had a son!
  10. From AMG: "The fifth and final Stanley Turrentine CTI recording actually predates all but the first album (Sugar). This LP has five selections from Feb.-Apr. 1971, including three with larger bands arranged by either Deodato or Chico O'Farrill, and two with a sextet also including guitarist Kenny Burrell and organist Butch Cornell. The best-known selection is the tenor's first rendition of Michel Legrand's "Pieces of Dreams" from June 1973; his July 1974 rendition for Fantasy would become quite popular. Although one could consider this album to consist of leftovers, Turrentine's playing is excellent, and the overall results certainly top most of the tenor's upcoming Fantasy releases."
  11. Yeast-free pizza crust I don't know, it seems like if you're avoiding dairy AND yeast AND meat then maybe the pizza thing just isn't going to happen. I've tried the total vegatarian-type of pizza and I must say it was awful. Some things I'd rather just give up entirely than have to settle for the compromised version. Some people learn to like those alernative ingredients, more power to 'em.
  12. Rooster, Spontooneous and I just had lunch at a place I should have mentioned- D'Bronx Deli. Besides pizza and great sandwiches they have killer calzones. I was also reminded that I should mention Minsky's Pizza- also a good local option.
  13. Are you talking about Reggio's, Al? Nope! Wow, looks good! I never heard of that place. :rsmile:
  14. Are you talking about Reggio's, Al? I liked their pizza, too.
  15. Happy belated Birthday, Randy!
  16. I'd have to second Lon's choices (wow, I'd forgotten about Conan's, I loved their pizza!). Lon, you do have good taste in.........well, good taste. I also like Uno's (Chicago) and I don't think I've ever had a bad slice in NYC. There is an Uno's in KC (also Austin, I believe, in addition to others) but they're not as good as the Chicago original IMHO. I haven't found any place in KC that I'm wild about, though I do like Waldo Pizza. I make it at home quite often- I like to cook the crust a bit before putting the toppings on (to avoid soggy crust)- I also saute the veggies for a bit (for the same reason). I like sausage (or pepperoni), green pepper, onion and black olive. I also like the combination of canadian bacon and green olive. Not TOO much cheese. Damn, now I'm hungry...... :rsmile:

  20. I greatly appreciate all the positive responses. Thanks, folks! Elevation and humidity affect the production of sound- the sound itself doesn't really change much at all. Low humidity or cold make the lips dry, requiring some kind of lip balm. No such problem in Florida, there will be PLENTY of moisture to work with. I hate playing outdoors in the summer daytime- I sweat like a pig, and the sweat runs into my eyes making it impossible to read music. A change of elevation usually requires some adjustment- going to a higher elevation makes you feel short of breath until you adjust, but when you come back "down" you feel like you have superlungs! These changes also affect reed-players, especially the humidity factor. A lack of gigs DEFINITELY affects the sound, however.
