  1. Reading this post will definitely help keep me on my diet. I'm afraid to even ask.
  2. They were married for 56 years according to the article. That's some serious commitment right there. 56 years! How do you continue to function after you lose someone you've been with that long? I'm hoping he has lots of close friends and family to support him. BTW, I'd say that the tune "Beatrice" has easily become a jazz standard by now, which is a "Hall Of Fame" kind of achievement for a tune. Also it's an achievement that's not as easy to come by these days. Sangrey (or any other players/listeners), do you agree with that? 56 friggin' years. Wow! Rest in peace, Mrs. Rivers.
  3. Earl McIntyre Earl Hines Gregory Hines
  4. I've never been able to play with earplugs. Can't tell how loud or soft I'm playing. I never sprung for really good ones, just used those foam things. Now after years and years of playing in big bands, usually sitting next to the drummer and in front of the trumpets, I have some pretty good tinnitus going. I have to sleep with some kind of droning noise in the room, like a fan, otherwise I have to listen to "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..."
  5. ......or Alan Greenspan........
  6. yeah, like *old* guys addressing the kids in formal ways. Where are we here, Germany? sheesh! Désolé, mon Français n'est pas très bon!
  7. Vous trouverez beaucoup d'individus fous ici.
  8. I think he meant "in dog years".
  9. It really is kind of "Geezer-issimo" here isn't it? You mean "near death"? Probably. Oops! I forgot to have kids!
  10. I love the Jazz Casual and Jazz Scene USA DVDs. The JS*USA* Rosolino segment is outstanding. Also love the JC Woody segments (3 of them) and the Thad/Mel segment. And the Cannonball. And the JOS. And the Sonny/Jim Hall. Etc.,etc.,etc. A few other favorites: Mingus Live At Montreaux 1975 Jazz On A Summer's Day Monk Straight No Chaser Calle 54 Diana Krall Live In Paris (even if you're not a big Krall fan it's hard to resist the great production of this video. Hamilton's drums and Clayton's bass are recorded beautifully)
  11. This is me when the Cellar Door box finally comes out.
  12. I think it's a very cool feature. I've had several nice hangs in there. Although it does make public my weak typing skills.
  13. You can say that again.
  14. Sure it counts, it's just in that category of "useful" gifts like socks and underwear.
  15. Bill Hicks John Hicks Bix Beiderbecke
  16. Texas is spanking Colorado pretty good (42-3,and that's just the first half). I hope they get to play USC for the national title. I think that might be a fun game to watch.
  17. Rooster's post is a response to a post of mine that I deleted. Please don't think he's lost his mind.
  18. What a silly solution. When the orchestra goes deep into the red and folds there will no longer be a problem with hearing loss. Work loss will then be at the top of the list. Although the idea of having to hire twelve trombones instead of three has got to appeal to the local dinosaur-riders. I hate playing with earplugs, but that is the obvious solution, much more logical than hiring so many extras. Sometimes these orchestral cats need to get over their bad selves.
  19. I couldn't quite spring for this set, mostly because I can't spend the $$, but the discussion/samples piqued my interest enough to order 3 of the Collector's Choice doubles from my latest Amazon indie-du-jour, alphacraze (caiman's quality has declined a bit lately). About 30 bucks for the lot. That'll be good enough for me. And you guys will still get the satisfaction of once again causing me to spend more money.
  20. Funny, I read the title and thought it was more of an abstract question, like you were wondering how the NKC trio "fits" (in the musical sense) in the overall Mosaic/musical universe. I'm sorry I can't help with the real question.

  22. Sleeper. This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Especially when the doctors are shocked that his character won't eat deep fried fat. Guy And when they find the VW bug and it starts right up.
  23. Thanks man. Let's go for it! "Less Paul is better for all"
