  1. I've noticed that recordings that get discussed here, such as the AOTW, often show up on the "Hot Seller" list at CDUniverse. I think people often read a thread about a recording and run right over to wherever they order from to purchase it (I know I've done that many times- at both CDUniverse and Mosaic). For example, I'll bet Mosaic had a recent spike in sales of the Hodges set, much due to discussions here. I'll also bet a lot of people have been ordering Kenny Wheeler's MFLASE. I do know that being here and learning about recordings of which I was unaware or unsure has led me to make more informed purchases. My good-to-bad ratio has improved dramtically.
  2. A couple AM sides I've always enjoyed are "The Wide Point" with Elvin and Palle Danielson (great version of "Three Card Molly"!) and "Trilogue Live" with Jaco and Alphonse Mouzon. Albert is the undisputed master of trombone multiphonics. He can get four notes (and more I think) happening at once. Really freaky cool stuff. His sense of melody is unique and wonderful too.
  3. I always thought Bobby was pretty rude to Jackie. It seemed to me that maybe he didn't want to share the attention and treated her with no respect. And he seems coked out most of the time.
  4. Just wondering if any board members might be going. To those who may be interested in such things and might be in the area, it will be held at Ithaca College (in beautiful upstate NY) this year on June 15-19. I'm going to be performing on some of the jazz concerts, and Mrs. Free For All will be performing on some non-jazz events. Let me know if you might be planning to attend, I'd love to meet some more Organissimites! Paul Here's a schedule:ITF2004 Events
  5. ..and so little time....(add rimshot...) B) EDIT: Plus I'd love to see the stilt walkers/fire dancers combined to become the FLAMING STILT WALKERS!! Now you're talkin' entertainment!!
  6. Sounds like you're ON DEMAND!! :rsmile: What's the BB gig?
  7. Just the price of having hooves. Hoofs? Guess you have "Hoove Blues". You're just not "Hoovin' Hard", you "Hoove Merchant". <<premise overload warning>>
  8. I heard there will be multiple tornados, and major flooding in NYC. Oops, I confused reality and movies again. My bad. Enjoy your BBQ.
  9. By "immediately" I meant as soon as Chase had that thing locked on his arm, and said that there was no key. I said to my wife "I'll bet Jack's gonna have to cut off his hand in order to stop the thing from going off". And then, of course, he did manage to get the bomb into the fridge with just a second or two to spare. Come on, that's been done too many times. I thought that they would do SOMETHING different! This would have been the ideal one to have a bad ending.
  10. So, anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? At this point it looks like rain in KC this weekend, so I may have to postpone the grill-a-thon. What's your pleasure? Traveling? Charring animal flesh? Heavy juicing? Laying low? EDIT: ....and I was remiss in not asking if anyone had any interesting gigs this weekend!
  11. Thanks for the heads up, GoM. I ordered the Jack Jenney, a couple Nat Pierces, the 47-48 Buddy Rich and a Casa Loma. The Jenney I've been trying to find for a long time. Good stuff!
  12. Well, even though I've missed many episodes this season, I watched the finale. This show has gotten predictable and boring. You can pretty much predict what's going to happen anymore (I knew immediately that Jack was going to have to cut off Chase's hand) -I think it's officially suffering from "premise overload". I was totally into it in season one, in season two I started to fade, and now I'm just not interested. Pretty lame ending, too. No surprises. Yawn...........
  13. BTW, shouldn't this be in the poll-itical forum?
  14. Poor Hardbopjazz. He knows not what he's started.
  15. Any "Robinsons" in your neighborhood Jim? B)
  16. I agree. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw polls.
  17. I remember watching Room 222. The theme song was in 7/4 and had flugelhorn on it, which, by the way, I didn't hate or love. Karen Valentine had a kind of Sally Field vibe, and Michael Constantine was the principal. ...and then there was the series with Marla Gibbs and Jack-kay. I think it was called 227. Now, why were there no 223-226 sitcoms? I smell government cover-up. Is this idea crazy, or is it maybe so sane that it's making you wonder?
  18. I've been enjoying this one as well. Very nice arrangements and not all West Side Story tunes as some might suspect- the only reason I mention that is I've grown a bit weary of all the WWS tributes, although I must admit I liked the Dave Grusin. Anyway, Bill chose some great tunes- Lucky To Be Me, Lonely Town, and I've always loved Some Other Time. Yes, I agree, there's more than a little Bill Evans in Charlap's playing- in some of the voicings and harmonic choices and definitely in the way he plays melodies in fourths, a big Evans device. The trio sounds tight, as if they've worked together a lot, and I do enjoy hearing well though-out and arrangements. No, it's not particularly innovative, but it's very tasty and it does swing, and those things are enough to keep MY interest.
  19. Well knock me over with a feather whydoncha!
  20. This is better than 24.
  21. You mean you liked to elicit illicit sex. Details?

  23. Happy Birthday David! :rsmile: B) -from the smilie octet.
