Anyone familiar with this guy? I just returned from a lunchtime trip to my local used vinyl shop and returned with an interesting record. Rufus Harley - A Tribute To Courage (Atlantic) Rufus Harley - Bagpipes, Flute, Soprano and Tenor Sax Oliver Collins - Piano James Glenn - Bass Billy Abner - Drums Robert Kenyatta - Conga Side One: 1. Sunny 2. A Tribute To Courage 3. Swing Low Sweet Chariot Side Two: 1. Ali 2. "X" 3. About Trane Produced by Joel Dorn and liners by Detroit's own Ed Love! I spun a couple tracks on the turntable at the shop and it really sounded pretty good for a beat up promo copy. What can you say for 6.99? I looked at allmusic.com and saw he recorded 3 or 4 records for Atlantic and one for the Ankh label. I'll give it a good listen when I pick up my turntable in a few weeks.

I'm going to be on the west side of the state of Michigan at the end of this month. I'm hoping to get over to Grand Haven with my family and catch Organissimo on tour. Unfortunately, I think your gonna be in Vegas, Chuck. Otherwise, I'd like to meet you too. Maybe sometime we can have an Organissimo Board hang in Detroit or Chicago. Get a bunch of us to go to the Velvet Lounge to catch Fred or Ken.

Spied a thread over at the Hoffman board and thought I'd spread the joy over here. Happy birthday Ray! I say for a present, we all pitch in and give him a new avatar. That one still creeps me out, man! All the best on your birthday.

Well, I'm going to give it a shot. I don't have to pay for shipping since the guy lives near where I'll be visiting in a few weeks. Can't complain much for $41 bucks....

I may pull the trigger on this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3027415664 Could I set this up so it wouldn't eat my records? Or would I be better off getting an old Dual?

Who the hell is "Musicboy"????
Jim Dye replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Musicboy has only posted here 8 times. 8 times over a period of 6 hours and 19 minutes on May 19th. It's amazing the amount of feathers one can ruffle in such little time! What lessons can be learned from this unfortunate incident? Maybe we need a poll! My vote would be for this: Don't fuck with the O-board. :rsly: :rsmile: -
Looks like the separation was mutual. Carlisle burned too many bridges within the organization according to the Detroit Free Press. Brown is not a bad hire in such weird circumstances. I don't expect him to stay long. Maybe long enough to get Darko and the team playing well together. He'll be gone by '06 for sure. Carlisle, Pistons' management clashed Saturday, May 31, 2003 BY DREW SHARP FREE PRESS COLUMNIST The only thing more surreal than Saturday's impromptu press conference announcing the apparently amicable divorce between Rick Carlisle and the Pistons was the 48 hours leading up to it. ``Surreal isn't the word for it,'' said Pistons team president Joe Dumars. ``It goes beyond unbelievable when trying to describe everything that' s happened to get us to this point.'' Larry Brown, the recent Philadelphia 76ers ex, is coming to Detroit. Carlisle may very well wind up in Cleveland. And a city coming off the euphoria of its first Eastern Conference finals appearance in 12 years tries to understand how a coach who won 100 games faster than any of his predecessors in this franchise's history could fall into disfavor with management so decisively. ``This was the best course for everyone involved,'' said Dumars. ``I can't really go into any specifics as to why this happened. It was just agreed that it was in everyone's best interests that we all move on and move forward.'' There were a myriad of irreconcilable differences that led up to this mutual separation, but the bottom line is that Carlisle alienated far too many people within the Pistons' organization with his frequent churlish behavior and obstinate coaching approach. He ticked off the wrong people. He treated certain factions of the organization with utter disrespect. He rejected overtures from practically everyone in the organization aimed at improving his communication skills, particularly in regard to younger players. Dumars will understandably take the hit from the same critics who for the last month blasted the possibility that Carlisle's status could be in jeopardy as ridiculous and irresponsible. That's his job as the front man for this organization, but parting company with Carlisle was a decision endorsed by everyone within the Pistons' basketball brain trust from top to bottom. Dumars had decided not to extend Carlisle's original three-year contract, creating a situation where Carlisle could be interpreted as a lame duck next season. He wasn't sure if Carlisle could ditch the stubbornness and surliness that got him into this predicament, but he initially thought that Carlisle had earned the chance to prove that he learned the error of his ways. But Thursday, it was determined that Carlisle wouldn't get that chance. Too many bridges had been burned, too many sensibilities had been offended, too many concerns remained. The Pistons contacted Brown, who was just days removed from the Philadelphia job, through back channels, gauging his interest in the job, if any. Dumars wouldn't have made a final decision on Carlisle unless he was certain that Brown was his guaranteed successor. According to league sources, Brown agreed to take the Pistons' job Friday afternoon at a salary that could surpass $5 million annually for five years. Carlisle was notified of the team's decision Friday evening at his home in South Carolina. He later leaked word of his firing to ESPN.com's NBA reporter, Ric Buecher, who reported it early Saturday morning, sending the Pistons into a frenzy of premature denials. The original plan called for only Dumars to address the media, but Carlisle asked to go out with Dumars, creating a bizarre scene in which the man who did the firing looked more uncomfortable than the man fired. This was a Carlisle that was rarely seen -- engaging, humorous and self-effacing. Had he better communicated that side of himself to his employers and players, he might not have found himself in this position. Perhaps he was too insecure as a first-time head coach to let people see that side of him, but it was refreshing, although unfortunately for him, it came too late to save him. But it may help him land his next job. Carlisle was auditioning for his next employer. He knew the press conference would be covered live nationally on ESPN and the sight of he and Dumars sitting side-by-side and showering each other with praise might ease fears of other general managers. It will help Carlisle only if he has indeed learned his lesson. It doesn't matter how many regular season games are won or division championship banners are raised, if you are branded as acting disrespectful to people in the organization and unwilling to change, you are going to create problems. And, in this case, it created problems that Carlisle couldn't overcome.

Do People With Big Heads Scare You?
Jim Dye replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've always thought that Lawrence Lessig had a big head. Then again, one would expect Harvard Law professors to have large heads... -
I was wondering if this might be a decent cheap turntable. http://www.vestax.com/products/bdt2500.htm It's a Vestax BDT2500. It has the phono-amp built in which would be perfect for me since my pre-amp does not have phono. Plus I want to do vinyl to CDR rips and I could probably just hook this baby straight up to the soundcard. Any thoughts?

Passer - By Hurt by Stool Tossed From School
Jim Dye posted a topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
My question is...what kind of stool?!!??!? A Stool Sample? Passer - By Hurt by Stool Tossed From School By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 4:17 p.m. ET NEW YORK (AP) -- A pedestrian was knocked out when she was hit on the head by a stool that sailed out of a high school's sixth-floor window while students horsed around between classes. Two freshmen from Washington Irving High School in lower Manhattan were being questioned, school officials said. Rosaura Beristani, 29, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition. ``It was a big thud. Next thing, she wasn't walking,'' said real estate broker Robert Morrison, who was across the street. Police said a group of students were ``horsing around'' in an empty classroom before the stool was tossed out. The last teacher to use the classroom faces disciplinary action because she left the door unlocked, said Department of Education spokeswoman Margie Feinberg. Schools Chancellor Joe Klein declared the incident ``unacceptable'' in a statement. Students and workers in the neighborhood said objects are often tossed from the school's windows. ``When I walk by here, I always walk on the other side of the street,'' said Gloria Foti, an administrative assistant at a nearby school. -
Mnytimes list is about right for me, although I was never really into Korn. One of the best shows from that 'era' was one I saw at Michigan State about 1990. Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and Chili Peppers headlining. Ten was just about to be released. The first Pumpkins record was out and Blood Sugar Sex Magik was new as well. Hell of a show. No one, including myself, knew who Pearl Jam was yet. Vedder was still into his climb all over the auditorium' phase like they show him in the Even Flow video. Can't believe its been 12 years.... I would also add to my list: Living Colour Primus Fishbone Mr. Bungle I also dig some of the shoegazing bands like Lush and Slowdive and early Verve. I think Radiohead is one of the best groups around right now. If we could include Rap, I really dug P.E. at the time.

I was wondering the same thing!

Yeah, they just look out of gas last night. Losing those 2 squeakers at the Palace just killed their spirit. A fine effort this year. Absolutely overachieved. I would like to see them get Danko, a better fit IMHO, although 'Melo could turn out to be amazing. It's nice to have such problems! I agree with Mnytime that LeBron may not be the best choice for number one. Wouldn't it be funny if Gund picked Carmelo? It'll never happen though. I really hope things work out for the Cleveland though.

Where I live, freak lightning storms aren't *freak* at all. They are quite common, so I turn both my computer and my stereo system off when not in use.

I feel kind of silly for wanting to be cautious with this turkey. Had I known how strongly b3-er feels, and the fact that Mnytime has his lawyers on retainer......well, let me just say that I wouldn't have been known in this thread as "The Voice Of Reason." Good luck with your battle against cancer, Mnytime.

Cheers, Neon! Thanks for the kind words.

Before you apologize, maybe you should see my latest post on the other thread....

Well, now that that is cleared up..... FUCK OFF MUSICBOY! Go get 'em, boys....

That is really cool JohnS! I wonder how it made its way across the pond? I recall a story where another test pressing of a date featuring Eric Dolphy (forget which right now) was found in a record store in England. It proved to be an entirely different version of the album than what was ultimately released.
-
I can think of more, much worse case scenarios than that. Maybe I'm being too cautious, but then I know how petty the music industry can be. You feel that someone ought to stand up to this guy, but it's not you who has anything to lose here. Maybe you are independently wealthy and could incur the costs of a lawsuit, but I sure could not. And I'll bet you that Organissimo cannot either. If you have the blessings of Joe, Jim and Randy, then go for it. More power to you! If not, I just urge you to exercise some restraint. That's all.

In the words of Indiana Jones, "I've got a bad feeling about this". Let it go, guys. Did you ask anyone in the band Organissimo if you could contact this guy on their behalf? I know we all feel it's OUR bulletin board, but it's not US who has anything to lose. It's Organissimo. Please think about that before reacting.
-
It's time to back off here and let things go. Nothing good will come in making this guy mad. Think about Organissimo, and this board, and what could happen to them. Ya just gotta pick your battles. There is much more to lose here than there is to gain. That really sucks and I hate what is happening here, but its appears to be the way it is. In the immortal words of Monk, Let's Cool One. Time for a cooling off period.
