  1. Kenny Dorham during a January 1959 appearance at the Five Spot. Peck Morrison is the bass player. Photo by Barry Schaffer! Image included on Schaffer's webpage http://jazzopinions.com/Photos.htm

  3. sgcim, thanks for bringing our attention to the CT bio! I was not planning to get it but if the rest of the book is as interesting I will certainly change my mind! Love the last item with Monk. Great album it turned out!
  4. Jazzbo - it is wonderful, you must get hold of a copy of that one . The 'Miles & Gil' on vinyl is particularly good too. Fully agree with Sidewinder. Those are the two Miles Mosaic I have. Sound on both is incomparable! Wish I had bought more of those Miles Mosaics... Now listening to: Arnett Cobb 'Sizzlin' (Prestige Japan reissue, stereo)

  6. John Coltrane 'The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings' (Impulse)
  7. Jack Teagarden/Pee Wee Russell 'Rhythmakers' (Riverside)
  8. Maybe researchers at the Voice of America (VOA has a small banner on fhe left side of the bandstand) will one day discover there are traces of that evening in their archives but so far none has surfaced
  9. Check out the recordings with Sidney Bechet (including the Clarence Williams sides with Louis Armstrong). He was one of the true giants of the era. The 1932 New Orleans Feetwarmers session with Tommy Ladnier is one of the best examples of Bechet's music!
  10. Jaki Byard 'Freedom Together' (Prestige, green label)
  11. The Complete Sarah Vaughan on Mercury, Vol. 3 (Mercury), CD2
  12. Billy Harper 'Trying to Make Heaven My Home' (MPS)
