  1. Duke Ellington 'Concert in the Virgin Islands' (Discovery reissue) Excellent remastering job on this LP!
  2. Another fine player still with us is pianist John (Johnny) Williams - the one who was with the Stan Getz quintet with Bob Brookmeyer. He played on 'The Apartment Session' from 1950
  3. Fine tribute. Laurel was one of my hero. Posted 'Big Business' as the funniest film I ever saw in the recent O. thread about those films but the link does not work anymore Much, much funnier than 'Airplane' which was named 'funniest film ever' last week
  4. The Babs Gonzales BN 'Weird Lullaby' CD includes the two tracks from that Rollins debut session plus four tracks from the April session with Rollins, Ray Nance, J.J. Johnson, Don Redman and others. Sandwiched between these two sessions there are two tracks from a March 1949 Los Angeles date with J.J., Art Pepper, Herbie Stewart, Wynton Kelly and others. Other sides from various sessions with Tadd Dameron, Jimmy Smith and Bennie Green! A highly enjoyable CD...
  5. Art Farmer 'Farmer's Market' (NewJazz/OJC)
  6. More who played with Bird and are still with us: Eddie Bert (with the Gene Roland 'Band That Never Was') Urbie Green (Woody Herman and the Bird) Toots Thielemans (at the 1949 Paris jazz festival jam)
  7. John Williams, pianist John T. Williams, pianist, composer John Williams, saxplayer, composer Johnny Williams, bass
  8. This one was not bad either...
  9. The paperback edition will be available from next month... Wail: The Life of Bud Powell
  10. J.J. Johnson 'JJ! In Person' (Columbia, mono, six-eye)
