  1. if you can... so can I... not really a sports car!
  2. The original European edition (on Dutch Mercury) had this cover that's how I heard the music first! I'm sure Mingus did not approve the use of his first name's spelling
  3. I visited the store several times, found it very newyorkish with unhelpful employees but fun to spend some time inside and look for curiosities (and there were plenty inside). Their jazz selection was a mess with a number of interesting items, all of them overpriced. Bought a couple of LPs there including a Dick Garcia Dawn original which looked better than it actually sounded My last two visits there were sad reminders of their better days! A great location they had!
  4. Sad to catch that type of news! Saw and heard him several times, last time about 4 years ago when he appeared with Sonny Simmons (and Sonny Murray) at L'Atelier Tampon in Paris. Full of fire and ideas! Obituary in Philly's local music blog.
  5. Hope the final sanction will clean the mess! LA is not the first rider to be caught, and not the last. But he is the biggest liar, a total hypocrite!
  6. The original is the one - on Prestige - with the beautiful headshot (by Esmond Edwards). The NewJazz 'Big Stuff' was a later reissue.
  7. here are some diamonds I have not seen here yet!
  8. From The Telegraph today: Ecce Homo botched Hope the lady 'with good intentions' is given another chance soon...
  9. Italian pianist Maria Tipo! My son who has little time for jazz but plays/studies classic piano introduced me to the beauty of her playing a while back!
  10. Brownie, see post #666 My mistake! It's nearly impossible to go through the numerous entries of this thread so as not to miss a repeat. There has been a number of repeats from various participants! Cyril, check post #398 for a previous appearance of the Bley Barrage cover
  11. Happy Birthday Laurie Great work you're doing on behalf of Art!
  12. Drove down yesterday from the civilized Paris weather to the brutal heat of the southwestern France Landes area. Thermometer was at 41°C (105°F) when we arrived. There is a local fiesta in the nearby city today. We'll stay indoor to avoid the heat
