  1. Recently discovered the Jazz apple. Two words that go together. Pretty good apple My favorite brand remains Reine des Reinettes(King of the Pippins). Typical of the anglo-saxons to give this delicious fruit a masculine name instead of the feminine french!
  2. The white cover you post is from the Verve reissue. Not sure the original Norgran release was that white...
  3. Lorraine Gordon interview on WNYC.
  4. Some predictable reactions! It seems that the mention of Schaap rubs a number of people the wrong way! I must say that whenever I was in New York, I tuned in on WKCR for Schaap's ornithology lessons. Pretty often, there was a number of details that would catch my interest? Not sure however that listening to 'Bird Flight' would be a daily ritual if I were to live in NYC!
  5. WKCR's Phil Schaap celebrated 40 years of radio Tuesday night! Schaap gala.
  6. The wikipedia entry for Infinity.
  7. Pujol speaks catalan! Maybe something was missing in the translation
  8. 'Infinity' is the only John Coltrane album I am ashamed of having purchased I wish someone would issue the same material without the tempered material that Alice overdubbed. Eternal shame on her for having defaced the music!
  9. Dexter Gordon 'Swiss Nights', vol. 1 (Steeplechase)
  10. They are on this Japanese Impulse CD:
  11. Good to see you around here, Dan! Thanks for the info. Nothing new here. All material was originally released on United Artists...

    KD ON Tenor

Previous thread on that KD Uptown release!
  15. It was the same in France where the African Cup was broadcast by the Orange TV channel only. Have had too many problems with Orange in the past to succumb to the temptation!
  16. Yes, the San Diego concert is the same one as the PJ California Concerts, vol. 2. The Fresh Sound box does not include the quartet items. All the available alternate takes of the studio sessions were in the excellent three LPs series 'Mainstream of Jazz', vol. 1, 2 and 3 that came out on EmArcy Japan in the mid 80s. The material was researched by Kiyoshi Kayama.
  17. Intégrale Django Reinhardt, vol. 8 'Swing From Paris 1938-1939' (Frémeaux & Associés), disc 1
  18. Here goes: The Great Blue Star Sessions 1952-1953 Dizzy Gillespie/Blue Star
  19. The full list!
  20. Yes, it's the same person... the various names that are attributed to him stem obviously from his gypsy origins. He was a very present drummer on the Paris scene after WWII. Mac Kak and Pierre Michelot Mac Kak hamming it up with Stéphane Grappelli Photos by Jean-Claude Bernath.
  21. Elmo Hope with Bertha Hope 'Hope-full' (Riverside Japan)
