  1. More IPS Driver Horror before I was allowed to log in this morning!
  2. This is very sad news! A favorite underrated pianist for a very long time (going back to his days with Tony Scott!). Ironically one of his best album (on Beehive) was titled 'In High Profile'. JazzWax had a highly readable interview with him last July!
  3. The Lund portion was released previously on a WestWind boot... Same material is included on the Jazz Lips release. The three tunes that were taped at the home of Finnish composer Likka Kuusisto are in excellent sound on the CD
  4. A very wise decision A thread about Tommy Ladnier deserved better than that!
  5. Cecil Payne 'The Connection' (Charlie Parker Records, Stereo Pact!)
  6. No idea. It might be a theme written by Cecil Payne or Kenny Drew. But it's not part of the score Payne and Drew composed for 'The Connection'. At least, I don't recognize it as one of themes that they recorded for Charlie Parker Records And it's not Slide Hampton's song either.
  7. Both (Byard and Redd) are highly recommended. Very nice albums... The Byard CD added a medley to the original release. I have the Redd vinyl, don't think there is additional material on the CD reissue. Don't overlook the Georges Arvanitas releases. Some of his best work appeared on the label.
  8. Another fine French (oops, Belgian!!) pianist... Maurice Vander in 1960 at the Blue Note with two Bosses: Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke! Maurice Vander's 'Les Feuilles Mortes' also known as 'Autumn Leaves' (by Joseph - not Vladimir - Kosma )
  9. Another fine French (oops, Belgian!!) pianist... Maurice Vander in 1960 at the Blue Note with two Bosses: Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke!
  10. Roland Kirk in 1972, part 1 Roland Kirk in 1972, part 2 The musicians with Roland Kirk are Ron Burton, piano, Henry Pete Pearson,b, Richie Goldberg, dr, and Joe Texidor, percussions.
  11. Marion Brown improvises with Beb Guerin on bass and Eddy Gaumont on drums on the set of the trendy TV show 'Dim, Dam Dom' in 1967.
  12. The Max Roach All Stars in 1996 at the Marciac Jazz festival. The All Stars are Johnny Griffin, Hank Jones and Pierre Michelot.
  13. new videos from the INA vaults are still being added. Liked that one: Cecil Payne and Kenny Drew in 1961 at the Blue Note with Michael Mattos on bass and Larry Ritchie on drums. They were in town for the Paris production of jack Gelber's play 'The Connection'

That one... Not only interesting-looking but also very nice to the ears!

    Philly Joe Jones

...but he was Riverside's house drummer (or almost), appearing on dozens of albums for the label including three under his name.
  16. same goes for Georges Arvanitas Arvanitas/H.U.M.. The Georges Arvanitas quintet with Bernard Vitet on trumpet and François Jeanneau on tenor in 1961 in a sow tat also features H.U.M. (Humair, Urtreger and Michelot) Arvanitas at Club St.Germain in 1959 withBernard Vitet, Bob Garcia on tenor, Luigi Trussardi on bass and Mac Kac on drums play J.J. Johnson's 'Wee Dot'
  17. René Urtreger is another French pianist well represented at INA. René Urtreger with Sacha Distel and Paul Rovere and Jean6louis Viale in 1958 René Urtreger Trio with Gilbert Rovere and Daniel Humair in 1970 H.U.M. trio (Daniel Humair, René Urtreger, Pierre Michelot) play Dameron's Tadd Delight in 1960
  18. yes, pretty accurate. But Prestige did not record the sessions. It was Chet's manager, the notorious Richard Carpenter, who sold the tapes to Prestige. The company marketed the results the same way they marketed the Miles sessions.
  19. Don Byas in Saint-Tropez - complete with seafishing equipment - plays 'Tea for Two' with his group including guitarist Bob Aubert, bassist Jacques B. Hess (who lays off on this one), drummer Jacques David and others... The musicians are introduced by Marcel Romano (with sunglasses)!
  20. The audio section of the INA vaults include fascinating broadcasts. They seem to be available for free! The 1948 jazz festival at Nice featuring Louis Armstrong, Rex Stewart, Lucky Thompson, Bobby Jaspar and others... Modern jazz at the 1958 Cannes jazz festival featuring Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Barney Wilen, Tete Montoliu, Martial Solal and others...
  21. Martial Solal has dozens of clips available including this stunner from 1957 Martial Solal's Caravan!
  22. Prices for BN Hank Mobley originals going up, up and away??? Hank Mobley
  23. Now that I'm creeping back to O., I find I have a hard time getting in any day of the week around 1000GMT. Takes more than half an hour before things get back to normal! I also got acquainted with the 'IPS Driver Error' page that J.A.W. refers in the previous message
  24. Andrew Hill Solo Select, disc 1... next disc 2!
