  1. Always liked going past Sawano's Paris record shop 'Moby Disques'... going past but not often inside (the prices were too rich for my taste!). It's closed now but the sign is still there!
  2. Thanks for letting us know about this! Ladnier has always been a heartwarmer to me Will get the book...
  3. The Mosaic Complete Collection is back on eBay... Mosaic Complete Collection, take 2
  4. If I remember well, the asking price was around $45,000.

    Sirone

Met him when he was still known as Norris Jones and playing with the Marion Brown quartet at the start of his career. Reacquainted with him when he showed up with Pharoah Sanders in 1968 at the Antibes-Juan les Pins festival. An impeccable musician and a gentleman!
  6. Missed the Five Spot and the Half Note. Was at Slugs a number of times. Among the remembrances, had a friendly discussion with Cecil Taylor and Robert Levin in between sets by Jackie McLean, back in 1967.
  7. 124 Mosaic sets up for auction. Complete collection of pre-2004 releases. Mosaic complete collection
  8. Happy Birthday, David  Very nice meeting you in Paris... come back soon!
  9. Greetings, Mike! The Lord Discography lists Tampa TP1 as Gerry Wiggins' 'The Loveliness of You' which came out originally on Motif as 'Reminiscin' With Wig'. Another Motif album that came out on Tampa was Max Albright 'Mood for Max' with Wiggins, John Anderson, Buddy Collette and others...
  10. A giant exhibition on Miles Davis opened this week at the Paris Cité de la Musique. Definitely worth a visit! The 'We Want Miles' show was organized by Vincent Bessières who contributed to this forum several years ago! We Want Miles The exhibition runs until January 17, 2010.
  11. Up (or should it be down!) Looks like Caiman has gone under (water)... I cannot find a single mention of any Caiman offerings on Amazon these days. Have they gone out of business This would be sad news! Have done a lot of purchases through them and never had any problem (if there was one, it was promptly solved).
  12. I was very happy when these DMM came out in the mid-80s. Especially because they originated from the Pathe Marconi plant in the lovely suburban city of Chatou. Quite a lot of reissues and several unreleased sessions (that included '<The Rajah) came out. But I became unhappy when I heard the sound. It did not compare with the sound of the BN sessions from the Lion-Wolff era. Nothing natural about the DMM process. 'The Rajah' was a great session. Love it! I am still waiting for a proper edition of it. I still have the DMM vinyl. Did not purchase the US CD which did not improve on the sound. Never got close to the Japanese CD.
  13. Maradona was at his usual best after Argentina qualified for the World Cup... Maradona faces the Press
  14. Interesting...and thanks Marcel! Another jazz mystery that needs to be solved!
  15. Haven't purchased the book yet (that will come soon) but in the meantime I am relistening to the September 1949 New Jazz session with Don Lanphere and Al Haig which appears (all 18 takes of the four tunes) on the Rare Live Recordings (RLR) label. The Fats Navarro Complete Last Studio Session CD also includes a 7 minute excerpt of 'Lullaby in Rhythm' from a June 1950 broadcast from Cafe Society with a Tony Scott group with George Shearing on piano, Chuck Wayne on guitar, Leonard Gaskin on bass and Ed Shaughnessy on drums. This hitherto unissued item was recorded by Bill Hirsch who also taped Charlie Parker in 1950 at Cafe Society! Fats Navarro who was obviously not in top form at the time of the broadcast is splendid on the Lanphere date!
  16. Amazon.fr has a promo video of the content in their page on that box: The Complete Miles Davis box video

  18. Roy Haynes plays drums on volume 5 (the Jimmy Smith Jam) of the Newport in New York 72 series on Cobblestone
  19. One of Photography's great! Miles by Penn:
  20. 2010 looks already like a great year! More music from Kenny Dorham is highly welcomed news!
  21. The Decca session with Perk, Montrose, et al is included in that Jazz-Lab 1 & 2 release minus the PC-PJJ duo track!
  22. John Graas is a rather forgotten musician these days but he recorded some of the best West Coast jazz in the '50s. Thanks to the good people at Lonehill, his music remains preserved. Couple of highly recommended releases from them:
  23. Plus ça change... From AFP today (other medias report the same): PARIS (AFP) – The Astana team of Tour de France winner Alberto Contador and third placed Lance Armstrong were given an easy ride during dope tests at the 2009 event, two leading French newspapers said Monday. They quoted a report by the French anti-doping agency AFLD accusing the International Cyclist Union (UCI) of failing to apply the rules properly to Astana, Le Monde and the Figaro said. "For some teams, the unexpected nature of anti-doping tests did not exist on the Tour," the Figaro said, adding that the 10-page AFLD report was to be sent on Monday to the UCI and the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA). The website Le Monde.fr gives details of how Kazakh-backed Astana was allowed to "always have the last tests in the morning, more time to go to the tester." The AFP story
