  8. INA say it is all legal. They claim they cleared the legal problems with the various rights holders and musicians unions. But I have not seen any footage or audio of Charles Mingus yet. However there are a couple of Erroll Garner videos available. This to mention a couple of musicians whose estates are notoriously difficult to deal with! The only Thelonious Monk video available is this famous 1969 interview. With the great story about Monk and Bud traveling together.

  11. The very official INA (Institut National de l'Audiovisuel) is opening its jazz vaults this week. This includes about on hundred hours of video and audio archives. Some of the rarely seen video can already be seen now: - the Duke Ellington Orchestra at Salle Pleyel in November 1958 Duke Ellington et son Orchestre - the Quincy Jones Orchestra in March 1960 Quincy Jones Big Band - a Daniel Humair show in 1961 with Jackie McLean Daniel Humair special show - Roland Kirk in 1970 Roland Kirk - Sun Ra in 1972 Sun Ra - Jazz Giants (Dizzy, Getz, McLean, Eckstine, Max Roach, etc...) honored Jazz Giants honored and there is a lot more... The videos can be downloaded or transferred to DVD at reasonable costs. Better read french if you want to upload any of these

  19. This does not seem to be part of the Trésors du Jazz series but the 25CD box was produced by André Francis and Jean Schwartz. It has just been released. Looks like a beautiful box at a very reasonable price. L'Histoire du Piano Jazz Hi Volkher! You should enjoy this

    Roy DeCarava who took superb photos of many jazz greats died Tuesday. Obit in today's New York Times The obit includes several of his images!

  25. The INA (Institut National de 'Audiovisuel) is releasing a double CD set recorded at the 1958 jazz festival in Cannes. Lots of very interesting music will be officially available on this Jazz sur la Croisette set!
