  1. Our loss Hope nobody here scares him away!
  2. Bill Russo 'The World of Alcina' (Atlantic, mono, black label)
  3. I've got only a cheap Polydor pressing of this I have that Marmalade stereo too, with a brief backliner note from Giorgio Gomelsky who produced the date! It's been a very long time since I bought my last McLaughlin.
  4. Buck Clayton Complete CBS Jam Sessions, disc 2
  5. Spain's Alberto Contador is the new overall leader and is already tagged as the next doping suspect nr. 1 Contador claims he is clean but didn't all the previous suspects say the same thing?
  6. Reports from Sly Stone and the Family appearances at Nice and Montreux indicate the concerts there were near disasters with Sly Stone performing some four or five songs with the family for less than half an hour. The rest of the family was fine.
  7. Sly and the Family Stone at the North Sea festival in Rotterdam last week http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...llet-2007_music
  8. The fives that made a difference in the way I was hearing the music were, in chronological order: - a French Decca album of the Count Basie Orchestra with Lester Young, - a French Odeon ten-incher of early Duke Ellington, those two LPs were my introductions to the music of the Count and the Duke, later came the followings: - the Prestige LP by the Miles Davis quintet (with Coltrane) 'Cookin' ' - the Candid LP by Cecil Taylor 'The World of Cecil Taylor' - the ESP first album by Albert Ayler 'Spiirual Unity'
  9. Tommy Turrentine (Time, mono) session by the Max Roach quintet (with Horace Parlan on pano). The scratchy copy has seen better days
  10. At least, the Tour de France race organizers are doing their job. Wish organizers of other sports events would do the same.
  11. Barney Wilen (with Kenny Dorham) French RCA LP gets over 2K! Barney
  12. The Logan video is part of an ESP DVD 'Smorgasbord Vorspeise Appetizer' that was added to te Don Cherry 'Live at Café Montmartre' recent release from ESP. It includes 12 hours of excerpts from ESP productions. My DVD player had problems reading the disc
  13. Another highly recommended Graillier piano album is this double CD
  14. Duke Ellington 'My People' (Contact, mono)
  15. The only thing that surprises me here is that Vinokurov would so blatantly try to cheat after the Tour de France organisers had announced well before the start of the race that they would crack down on ethics violators. After all, Vinokurov's 'personal trainer' as he calls him is none other than the controversial Dr. Michele Ferrari who looked over Lance Armstrong's performances. All this will not prevent me from enjoying today's stage which should be more than interesting. Plus the TV coverage is first-rate! It will also be a great opportunity to enjoy the Pyrenean mountains at their beautiful best.
  16. A belated Happy Birthday, Marcel Hope it was a good one and you were serenaded by the Bird! And please keep boppin'
  17. How very sad if they did
  18. Sony Stitt in 1982 with an all-French rhythm section, René Urtreger on piano, Pierre Michelot on bass and Eric Dervieux on drums: http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=zXOrCSikcrk http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=RIdssv80Syw&...ted&search=
  19. Phil Woods 'Rights of Swing' (Candid, mono original)
  20. Good call. Indeed. Two Graillier siedeman appearances I would recomment are the Chet Baker session 'Candy' reissued a couple of years ago on Sonet and Barney Wilen's 'French Ballads' (originally on Ida).
  21. John Coltrane 'Ballads' (Impulse, mono, orange label)
  22. The vinyl is on BYG, right? I've always been curious about that one, though it's been pricey when I've seen it offered. That's the one. Did not realized it became pricey because the vinyl was seen pretty often in stores here at the time. My copy carries an autograph from Monsieur Solal!
