  1. That 'Strange Strings' album is one of the most out disc by Sun Ra. It was one of the couple dozen Saturns I bought directly from Sun Ra back in the late '60s! The LP I have is a preview copy with handwritten title and tracks listings on the front cover. The front cover title is 'Strange Strings'. The disc label identity the disc as 'Strange Strange'!
  2. The only one I know of: John Coltrane - Live In Japan
  3. That one: Never investigated it...
  4. Al Cohn & Zoot Sims 'Either Way' (Zim Records) with Mose Allison, Bill Crow and Gus Johnson
  5. Howard McGhee 'Maggie's Back In Town' (Contemporary, stereo, black label) with Phineas Newborn, Leroy Vinnegar, Shelly Manne
  6. Joyeux Anniversaire, Steven Enjoy the day! Must be great to be 21 today
  7. Some other Jazz In Paris favorite covers...
  8. Actually, that looks like Brussels. Can you identify it Brownie? MG That's the Passage des Panoramas, one of the Passages on the Grands Boulevards. Walter Benjamin wrote a fascinating study of the Paris Panoramas that is essential reading!
  9. Actually it was Bechet's next to last recording. His final recording session (for Vogue) took place in Paris in December 1958. Understand he did not sound wonderful on that finale date Now spinning: Hampton Hawes 'This Is Hampton Hawes, Vol. 2, The Trio' (Contemporary, mono, 70s reissue)
  10. Another piano album by Shirley Scott is this 'Rencontres du Cloitre, vol. 1' which was published by the French basque regional label Jazz Aux Remparts. It was recorded in July 1996 when Shirley Scott gave a solo piano recital in the cloister of the Bayonne cathedral. It is a very beautiful album. Volume 2 which was recorded at the same place does not seem to have ever been released!
