  1. Walter Davis 'Abide With Me' (Denon) with Charles Sullivan, Buster Williams, Tony Williams, etc...

Don Joseph is also heard on a 1954 Art Mardigan EP recorded for Mercury/EmArcy (with Milt Gold, Al Cohn, John Williams and Teddy Kotick). The date was reissued on a Japanese EmArcy vinyl 'Renditions' that reunited the Mardigan date and a Bill de Arango session (with the Williams, Kotick, Mardigan rhythm section).
  3. Walt Dickerson 'A Sense of Direction' (Prestige, French reissue)
  4. Ornette and Natalie The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Ornette sign
  5. Pretty same here, except I sit on a reclining non-leather armchair that does good to my back!

JR, not Jack. On the cover it is spelled Jack Monterose. Not JR Monterose. I've listened to the session, and the saxophonist is probably Jack Montrose, not JR Monterose. Michel, careful! You're stepping on the wrong people's shoes! It's J.R. Monterose - not Jack Montrose - on that Will Bradley Jr date. The session is included in the Fresh Sound reissue 'Jaywalkin' by JR Monterose!
  7. Oooooh That Lola Robert Hilbert in his biography of Pee Wee Russell suggests that Lola was probably present at the recording session. She was Pee Wee's companion at the time. There are some evocative anecdotes about Lola in the book. She was really wild!
  8. The missing track was 'Alianca' from the Bossa Antigua sessions. I have inserted the vinyl of the French issue of that album in my Mosaic box!
  9. Won't need a burn of this 'Tranquility'. Polydor Japan was wise enough to reissue a dozen LPs each month in the mid-seventies in their 'Immortal Jazz on Verve' series. 'Tranquility' was one of those I purchased then!
  10. No I have the same Fresh Sound LP. But I have the Zoot Sims-Henri Renaud Ducretet-Thompson 10-inch Not in great condition
  11. I'll split my vote between the Parker/Benedetti set and the Commodore boxes liner notes!
  12. Kimiko Kasai with Gil Evans Orchestra 'Satin Doll' (CBS/Sony) 1972 album with Marvin Peterson, Billy Harper and Japanese musicians!

That one: Thanks for the reminder, Peter! Spinning it now and enjoying it very much. The 1987 album was produced by Frank Strazzeri (executive producers:Jordi Pujol & Pedro Soley). Frank Strazzeri is quoted in the liner notes by Pujol as stating 'Joe has always had the gift of being at the wrong place at the right time!' The LP had a brief lifespan and is no longer listed on the Fresh Sound website!
  14. Don't think there is an Al Cohn session where he was less than very good! My love for his playing started very early when I listened to the British release of this 1954 Nick Travis session 'The Panic Is On' with Johnny Williams, Teddy Kotick and Art Mardigan. The British HMV had the same great cover by the one and only Jim Flora! I played the album to death and later replaced it with the RCA Victor original!

Laton, it is a greyish Sunday morning here. No café au lait in the morning for me. It's Earl Grey tea with fresh bread plus figs jam

Joe Romano also has fine moments on that Art Pepper gig that came out on Fresh Sound

    Martial Solal

Yes, it's his profile at the piano, black background. Exactly! Google images search proved fruitless!
  19. I remember a side of his w/Joe Farrell that was quite nice. Don't have that one, but I do have another one of his that's "ok". Teddy Edwards was also on that album with Joe Farrell: Frank Butler's first album for Xanadu was 'The Stepper' with Jack Montrose, Dolo Coker and Monty Budwig. I like the energy on those two sessions. Butler remains so underrated. Still have a passion for his work. I was in LA for the Olympic Games in 1984. I was pretty busy with the Games coverage and had little time for any 'outside' activities. But wanted to check what Butler was doing then and found a Frank Butler listed on the LA phonebook. Wasn't sure it was the Butler I was seeking. Called several times but there was no answer. Found later that he passed away four days before the Games opening
  20. Don Joseph 'One of a Kind' (Uptown) with Al Cohn and Bill Triglia!
  21. Don't know what happened to him during the 60s and 70s but he was doing fine on the 1979 Dave Schildkraut disc that Allen Lowe released on Endgame and also on the 1984 Don Joseph Uptown album 'One of a Kind'. As Niko mentioned, Allen Lowe will hopefully chime in and give us informations.
  22. Jack Nimitz has also recorded for Fresh Sound. 'Confirmation', a 1995 session with Lou Levy, Dave Carpenter and Joe LaBarbera. Good straightforward music! Photography by William Claxton!

That French Telefunken is an unusual one. That's the album with Solal on the cover, right? The original release of it was this one on German Telefunken It's an absorbing album. I like it!
  24. Jimmy Raney and Martial Solal 'The Date' (Stil)
  25. Hope we will be able to see this soon! Looks mighty interesting. Is the director related to Lester Koenig by any chance?
